Title: Paleo Sleeping Positions? Beddings?
Post by: goodsamaritan on October 02, 2010, 05:53:24 pm
Did paleo people sleep on rocks?
Did they sleep on their backs?
Sitting down?
Any pictures or sketches?
What sleeping position is optimal?

There is a wtfmassive difference between sleeping on soil and sleeping on a floor. On grass/soil is nice, floor is torture. I find the most comfortable position to be on my back.

Last I checked, palaeo peoples slept on bare ground , but hollowed out a small place for their heads to settle into. The key is supposed to be to allow the head to allow to be placed a little below the rest of the body, so as to allow the best opportunity to sleep.

Are you sure the dent didn't just appear as they slept? When I've woken up on grass there has been a dent.. The head is pretty heavy.

wow! i never knew that. personally, i can't sleep with a pillow under my head, that means i never like pillows. i also feel comfortable to be on my back.
anyway, we (me, my husband and my toddler) share the same bed all together where we sleep on hardwood floor. we are sleeping on floor since my son is born. we never put our son on crib even for a day.  i won't choose grass to sleep, 'cause those ants might get into ears which is very painful :'(.

No, they would hollow out the ground for the head, first.

This is an old thread, but it comes up high on google, so in case anyone else reads it, you might find this link of interest:

I've slept exclusively on the floor...generally carpeted...with only a sheet under me. I didn't have the soreness when I did it a few times so I've stuck with it. Every time I have slept in a bed since I my body is more sore (muscles). I recently decided to sleep without a pillow as well and have noticed I sleep less time and wake up easier (more refreshed). Every time I use a pillow I sleep longer and have a much harder time waking up. Its kinda crazy how consistent it is. So now I always sleep on the floor without a pillow. I can't sleep on my back so I'm usually sleeping on my stomach or side...most often my stomach now that the pillow is gone. Just my two cents.
