Title: "health specialist" way off target on nutrition
Post by: nicole on November 24, 2010, 09:09:01 am
For one of my classes at school i had to listen to this woman from the largest healthcare center in the city talk about nutrition and healthy diet. this was over the course of several weeks. i was astounded by how wrong she was about nutrition. here are the "facts" she told us:

-meat protein should only be a small addition to the meal.
-the diet should consist of 50% grains! 25%produce and just 25% or less of protein.
-beans and nuts are a much more healthy source of protein than meat.
-soy products are healthy. she even passed around some sort of canned soy product and callled it healthy. processed and loaded with unnatural salt no doubt.
-saturated fat (animal fats) are unhealthy and the oils from plants are much healthier. she said this "saturated fats are solid at room temperature so that should tell you something" -like what i ask you? that doesn't even make sense.
-cholesteral is bad for you.

i was astounded by how wrong she was and this woman was sent by the biggest healthcare center around. well i went home and enjoyed a fatty piece of meat after each of those lecture i tell you. bigger than usual and fattier to boot. damn skippy i did.

I am so sorry you had to endure that.
It would be cool if you could bring the fatty meat with you and eat it in front of her while she is lecturing.

I wish I was there! TV just does not animate me like debating the head shleepers.  :D
A pound of fatty meat... 6 dollars. Convincing this woman that she had been wasting her life eating birdfeed... priceless

I thought about taking a class like that "principles of nutrition", but thought it would be an everyday struggle like that. I wish I could get a degree in Nutrition but there is nothing out there that I can find, that would be even close to support primal nutrition.  Its like you would have to endure years of that to make someone believe in what you say. Logistics are can go ahead and die out, please.

I have worked through parts of a book about nutrition and metabolism. There are some occasional remarks about politically correct nutrition (saturated fat bad, unsaturated fat good, meat bad, soy good, etc). But the vast majority of the book is very interesting. It describes nutrients at the molecular level, explains how they're digested and metabolized, etc. So don't be too quick to dismiss a course in nutrition. Find out what book they're using, take a look at it, and then decide. Or just learn nutrition on your own from a book.

The book I have is:

I happen to agree that protein should be less than 25% of intake for an adult, and probably very much less.

The rest should be saturated fat.

Why do you believe that?

Sat fats are great foods!
