Title: Cooked animal fat feels most natural except I feel very nauseous
Post by: pianoplaya on April 21, 2011, 02:09:00 am
Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but I've been repeatedly experimenting with different foods paleo and non-paleo to see how they make me feel, and sure enough I feel best on mostly animal products and few veggies.

Except that then I need animal fat primarily as a fuel source.  I starting eating a lot of cooked beef fat (pork makes me feel bad and naseous almost immediately), and it felt like a great natural energy source, but after half a day I starting feeling sick to my stomach even though my head/brain felt the healthiest.  This was also grass-fed beef fat from Whole Foods so I trust it's quality for the most part. I tried this multiple times on different occasions, but I keep getting to that naseaous place.  After one full day of mostly animal fat I felt like I was gonna puke and had bad diarrhea.

Has anyone had a similar experience?  Do I need to go full raw animal fat to even be able to stay on this type of diet?  Or do some people do fine on a lot of cooked animal fat?  Fat definitely makes the rest of me feel the healthiest but this stomach ache is too much.  Thanks.

Many of us have serious issues with cooked animal fat of all kinds, even things like pemmican.

If you're transitioning, you could try eating cooked meat then raw fat separately. I find it doesn't affect my digestion much.

I do equally well on raw and lightly cooked animal fat.

How about room temperature fat, or fat always kept at room temperature cause cold food makes digestion harder since the stomach works good on room temp/warm food.

Seems to me like fat oxidizes pretty fast if not kept cool and away from excess oxygen. I store mine in the fridge totally wrapped up, otherwise I can smell what I believe is rancidity pretty fast, and that isn't kosher with me!

Yeah, I get in a state of discomfort, kind of similar to nausea, after eating enough cooked fat.

Instead I can eat chunks of raw lard (not cured) without having that feeling at all. Quite often 100-150gr, half a pound, in one sitting, easily.

I was advised to hang fat in the open air? Or uncovered on a plate in the fridge.
