Title: That all important taste
Post by: HIT_it_RAW on May 12, 2011, 09:49:00 pm
I would like to know: are there people here who after say more than a year rpd still dislike the taste of raw meat/organs? And who would still like the idea off eating some sad foods?

I read that "00night storm" was still having trouble after a year. I've have been 90% rpd for a few months and was 100% rpd the last few weeks. Today was one of my best friends birthday who also is a colleague. So he brought pie(from an expensive baker) to work. I wanted to refuse but the guy is Georgian and its a big thing to refuse food in their culture especially from a friend and especially at his birthday. So I ended up eating a slice of pie  :'( I had really hoped I wouldn't like it because its disgusting sad food, too bad. It tasted nice, very nice. It also feels surpisingly ok in my stomach. I had a cooked sausage a few weeks ago that did not feel ok so I thought this would feel bad too.

I have no problems eating raw meat since I switched to 100% grassfed meat, but I don't love it either. However I know from experience that if I eat one non-raw thing my taste is of and I hate the taste of raw meat the rest of the day. So I guess I will have a vegetarian diner tonight  >:

You ate a piece of pie you didn't want to eat at all, to save someone's feelings? I would have just said that I cannot eat pie, and if they questioned me, give them a WTF look. How dare someone question what I will and won't eat?

Have to agree on this one. Do what's right for you and no-one else.  ;)

Its a bit more complicated. He knows I can eat it he has seen me do it plenty times before rpd. To us rpd is more than just a diet, it is a healthy lifestyle. From his perspective its just a diet: "you can cheat your diet, come on its my bday. When I was dieting to loose some weight I eat pie when a friend was having its bday."

You're right off course but the original qeustion of the topic was. Do you love the taste of raw meat? Or still dislike it after a year or so? or do you still like the taste of sad foods?

I know I shouldn't have eaten it but "fortunately" I can handle sad food without much problems. Just downed half a litre of green vegetable juice to rid the horrendous aftertaste(that I never liked).

I make compromises like you sometimes and my gut instinctively expels them.

As for your original question about taste.

At 3-1/2 years it seems I've crossed over somewhat to instincto territory.  I eat what appeals to me by taste and smell.  Yes those raw animals taste great because I never made compromises ever when I started.  If the raw animal didn't taste good, I didn't eat it.  I only choose the raw animal foods that tastes good to me.

So taste is important.  Yes. 00nightstorm needs better variety and better quality meat.  Or maybe it is how your meats are stored or packaged.  IF your meats are vacuum packed, you may need to air them out enough to restore their healthy red color.

Fresh makes all the difference.  My favorite raw animal food is freshly slaughtered / caught same day.  Just so satisfying.  I located my office once beside my favorite wet market.  It was awesome.

My goal is to eat instintive rpd too. Im not ready for that yet. So far I have not been able to find a raw animal food that I love the taste of except for dairy. I tried beef, lamb, liver(beef and lamb), marrow, suet, mussels, eggs, kidney and salmon oh wait I do love salmon&tuna but they are above my budget. Most of the other foods I like nor dislike except for kidneys I couldn't eat those. Smelled disgusting.

I do what I want to do. I don't care about social acceptance.

You might like poultry, such as wild pheasant, goose, duck, woodpigeon and partridge. Even chicken if you can somehow find a suitable source, which I know is unlikely. They taste a lot different to red meat and have a different texture. I also find poultry fat delicious. The prices of wild game and poultry seems to vary from place to place (and possibly from time of year) from rediculously expensive to relatively cheap. Also depends on the species ofcourse.

I find that my taste buds tell me what is appropriate food and that varies depending on the nutrition my body needs. I went through a stage where pork was best. Now I find a combo of pork and beef.

Haddock is nice occasionally, especially if really fresh however the saltiness gets to me if I eat too much.

I was travelling with some relatives recently and got OD'd on the salt in restaurant food. It put me and my GF in a bad mood and I got a sore throat from it. I know that sounds wonky but salt gives you a salty personality. However I recognize that some people need it for their body.

It's difficult to say no and I always pay with discomfort.

Yeah I should try that. But I get 16kg of grassfed beef muscle and organmeat wednessday so it should wait to next month. The only thing I do realy like is the yellow hard fat on grassfed meat. But there is never a lot on it.

HIT_it_RAW,

You should not feel bad about eating the pie. I don't want to sound rude but the opinion of the other people on this board suggests that they may have little experience with making accommodation to differences in culture. Granted, a pie may be a SAD food item but if you cherish your friend and you understand the importance of eating this pie, then the pie may be much more than symbolic then the pie itself.

Priorities.

Perhaps the best answer is moderation; perhaps accept the pie but just a small amount.

Thats kinda what I did.

@GS
My gut seems to have done the same yours did. Just let it fly through as fast as possible. Had some loose stools this morning kinda like a detox.

It may also depend on the stage of healing you are in.
If you are trying to cure an incurable disease at the moment, then this is not the right time.

I'm in reasonable good health. I have 2 issues that I know of.
1 a rash on my upper arms/upper legs. Very small red dots looks like the pores of my skin are somewhat inflamated
2 some red stretch marks on my upper arms and legs. Those are exercised induced I grew a bit faster than my skin could stretch

The latter is slowly healing on rpd. The former I've always had it and it is still an issue. I know certain foods make it worse like cooked pork and pasteurised dairy. But I haven't had those for a long time. Prior to starting rpd I didn't consume dairy for 1yr that didn't work so I dont think it is dairy. I'll try cutting out eggs next. Together with meat that's just about the only thing I've always been eating. I had a low meat almost vegetarian period that didn't help either. Lets hope it's the eggs, although I like eggs they are so easy to digest/give me a lot of energy.

Any other sugestions I could try?

So I started reading the instincto/anopsology work by GCB and he says that anyone in a toxic state from non initial food finds raw animal produces tasting bad. I don’t want to go into the why right now. He also says that raw milk is such a food. I’m drinking raw milks kefir so maybe that’s why I don’t like the taste of most raw meats. Or my instinct is telling me its not the most optimal food atm.

Interesting. The more I read about instincto the more sense it makes.

Hmm; that is interesting. It makes me ponder about why I instantly fell in love with eating raw meat after having my first bite of sirloin.

I was on a wholesome raw vegetarian diet, but because my diet lacked fat and protein I found the raw meat perfectly satiating.

I had the same experience GCB talks about. When I consumed raw dairy regularly, my appetite for raw meats slowly disappeared, as a direct result, to the point where I couldn't stand them any more. Raw dairy also contains addictive opioids in it which can cause cravings.

Absolutely DISAGREE! If your friends and family care about you, they will not put food above your diet preferences. If someone is so sensitive and small minded as to be offended that you don't eat something not on your plan, s/he does not deserve your company.

not for me. I love combining kefir(or milk)with meat they complement each other. The acidid probiotic kefir creates the perfect enviremont to digest meat. Feel like eating meat every time I drink kefir.

Well I can tell you a few things about my experience.  I have eaten all kinds of animals, lamb, bison, beef, fish, etc...  I have tried every organ from brain to tongue.  I have ordered grass-fed meat from Slankers more than once, several local farmers, as well as grain-fed supermarket beef.  It has been well over a year and a half since I started raw meat and I do not like any of it any better than the first bite I ever took.  I was hopeful that I would acquire a taste for it when I first started but it just did not happen for me.  I tend to project my own experience onto other people and find it impossible to believe that anyone else could enjoy raw meat since I have not even come close to being able to but I realize this is a very dumb thing to do and I can not discount other people's experiences.  Human nature I guess.  Maybe everyone else on this forum does the same thing when reading my posts and think that I must be doing something wrong.  Instinctive eating has not worked for me either as I have no limit to the amount of honey or fruit I want to eat.  Fruit especially makes my skin dry and puffy and gives me all kinds of problems including intense craving for carbs and sugar.  I find that if I abstain from sweet things completely my cravings for them die down a great deal over time.  I have put up with eating raw meat because I saw a great deal of improvement in my health which makes it worth it.

I can also tell you that the expensive meat in the butcher shop is expensive for a reason.  You will have a slightly easier time eating $22/lb steaks but if you are like me you won't be able to afford them.  Again, others will probably disagree.  I find ground meat the most disgusting, although I probably felt the best eating nothing but that - grassfed of course, supermarket ground beef has no taste and I simply can not tolerate eating it.  The connective tissue and chewy fat seems to be the worse part of any cut IMO.  The texture of crumbly fat around the good steaks is pleasing but like all fat has no taste to it.  I really hate the chewy fat that comes with the roasts!

I have to eat this way because I screwed up my digestion by drinking alcohol for many years and growing up on coca-cola and microwavable burrito diet.  If you are attempting to eat this way just to be healthy then I say don't.  Just cut out grains, potatoes, and sugars and eat your meat rare with vegetables and live a long and happy life.  If you can tolerate fruit then eat fruit.  If you can handle raw dairy then enjoy raw dairy.  All this is my opinion of course, and you know what it smells like.

to bad you're having such a touch time! I admire your strenght in not giv -ving up. I'm starting to like raw meat. I let my meat hang for a night. this warms it up to room temp, allows the blood to drip of and dries the outside. This way i can enjoy meat. I agree that ground meat aint very nice. I eat meat from cows that roam free in their natural enviremont. The meat is dark red almost purple. Its touch and very tastfull. I used to eat semi grain fed mest but now that meat makes me  -v

I like the grumbly fat also. The chewy fat I often cut too small pieces and just swollaw. I cant relate to your expensive cut argument. I like the cheap cuts better. The good steaks are so soft. I like to take a large piec of meat and tear it apart with teeth and hands only. Try it! it releases some primal feelings that make you enjoy the eating.

I still like a good piece of cooked meat and will prob always has some every now and then. I will however stick to this diet because I feel great eating it!

Hope your taste will adapt over time.
