Title: Help with Deodorant!
Post by: Poncho on April 24, 2013, 10:35:47 pm
Alright so deodorant has ALWAYS been a problem for me.
Its been a tough run.
I'm sure now that I eat only the finest raw meats etc,
and have switched all of my beauty and cleaning products with ones that I made out of baking sodas and cocao powder..
I'll soon be free of this problem.
But for now while I'm detoxing, at least,
I need a deodorant that works.

No commercial ones that the natural world sells do anything for me.
I found this one recipe, and it actually works.
I was amazed.

The recipe is:
6-8 Tbsp Coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder

And it burns!!!
Every time I use it, and I DO use it every day haha
It burns all day.
Because its the only thing that works for me if I want to stay natural.
The burning comes and goes throughout the day
But when it comes back, it's just as bad if not worse.
Some days some red bumps appear
Some days lots of red bumps appear
They burn, and can last for days afterwards.
I know this because I did try not using it for a bit after I broke out in those red bumps.
They went away eventually,
But I needed that deodorant haha
Its insane haha I've never been allergic to anything.
Could this be detox?

the burn is most likely the baking soda if kept under the arm as used..   Have you tried making a paste of the bs and applying it underarm while showering and rinsing off just before exiting shower?   Works fine for me.  The trick is to leave it there for some minutes.  You might also try a LIGHT dusting of it afterwards, but only after the pit area is completely dry so as not to leave much at all behind.

Thanks haha, this has been absolutely puzzling me.
Hope its the answer

I use baking soda occasionally to wash, but I do not leave it on my skin. It is alkaline, and the skin likes to be mildly acidic. I'm not sure if that is hard science, but it is my reason.

I use coconut oil on my skin, including armpits. It's very good and will keep away odor for me. I use it from head/hair to toe. If I get too much on and it doesn't absorb, I towel it off with a dry towel.

Not sure what the arrowroot does except maybe thicken the mixture.

do you shave there everyday too? or does it burn non-shaving days as well?

i've tried baking soda as shampoo, which was great for my hair, but my scalp reacted. so, i don't trust baking soda on my skin.

One word.

Lemon.

Dont bother with any of this other weird stuff. Lemon works for a long time with zero side effects. I also think it smells quite nice.

You are very welcome.

stop shaving, not only is it awesome, but itll help heal up your pits and they might stop smelling :)  weleda brand almost makes pretty legit deodorant,  you can probably concoct your own out of bodycare grade alcohol and lemon essential oils....

I like the idea of lemon juice,  I use it always as aftershave (that's face, not armpits ), before applying coconut oil.    Let us know what you find works.

For a few years I had hyperhidrosis (sweating) partially because of bad diet, excessive use of antiperspirant, and stress. Avoiding cooked foods makes my sweat smell fresher and less like stank. There are probably certain vegetables that combine with each individual differently to make body odour, but eating everything raw should result in a more subtle smell overall. Juicing parsley and most other green vegetables work well to cleanse and I believe deodourize.

Trimming armpit hair short keeps the area cool but still reduces friction and surface area for microbes.

I don't know how bad you're sweating is or how hot it is where you live, but mixing different proportions of coconut oil and baking soda with essential oils only irritated my skin or didn't work for very long. If I was tackling this problem today I would stop clogging and irritating the skin with powders, and focus on keeping cool and stopping the growth of the bacteria that cause the odour. Covering my head in raw honey for 3 hours works extremely well for stopping my face and scalp itching for a couple of days, I'd be willing to bet it would work with body odour too.

Haha guys come on I don't shave my face!
And there is no chance in hell that I will stop shaving
No
I love shaving. It's a crutch of mine I guess
It makes me feel normal
The act of shaving never hurts me

The thought of not shaving does hurt me haha.
I'll try all of the deodorant suggestions and let you guys know what works for me!

Shaving is probably less damaging to the skin than using soap. The skin has a natural protective barrier which prevents smelly bacteria from growing. Soap destroys that barrier, so we are more prone to stinking; then we wash more, then we stink more. It's a vicious cycle.

A secondary damage done by shaving is destruction of the woman's self-esteem. The act of women shaving the hair of puberty is a symbol of subservience to men. It's one of the more obvious symbols - reverting to the state of dependent childhood by removing the signs of adulthood. JMHO

lol who said you shave your face?
I am just hoping to convince you to join the dark side furry pits club..
come on, its awesome, mine smell like roses and are soft like squirrels, hehe
nm.......
agree that eating lots of green herbs helps
sometimes you just go through extra smelly phases too, I dont know, maybe it IS a detox thing, but for the most part once you get your body into proper biosis, digestion and respiration you really shouldn't smell too offensive.
if you are still eating lots of garlic and onions, those can seep out through your pores and cause a funk too, even heavy spices like curry will change the way you smell.

A lot a smelly women on here.

I think caring about being smelly is more subservience to other women. Women dress for other women and is the same for smells. Eve is wrong and Jessica is scaring me.

strongly disagree here.  shaving is not about removing the signs of adulthood.  do men shave their facial hair as a means of "reverting to the state of dependent childhood by removing the signs of adulthood" and subservience to women???  of course not!

I've never heard of that in the history of men's shaving. Usually, male facial shaving is attributed to three general influences: religious observance, cleanliness, and warrior-ness. When women's shaving is found, it is usually due to religious observance or fashion. Men's shaving is found consistently throughout all times and cultures, even when religious observance is not the purpose. Non-observant women's shaving pops up here and there, more sporadically.

Err, actually many women do not like a man's beard because it scratches them during kissing, so no wonder men shave.

so it is subservience to women!  ;D

What's wrong,  maybe wrong is the wrong word, but how about doing what  pleases your partner?   I can't imagine enjoying kissing someone with a beard.   I also shave, when not in relationship, because I like the look.  So then it's for myself.

I think beards on men can lend a touch of distinction. Unfortunately, due to past shaving errors or whatever, there are one or two patches which never properly grow enough hairs so... Plus having a beard makes me far too hot.

I believe that men shaving has a lot to do with our current infantilized culture where people never grow up. Shaving among men is always common in such degenerate cultures where men become effeminate and soft due to generations of city living.

I cut my hair short so it's comfortable, women cut their hair short to keep men away or signal they are lezos to other lezos.

What is the reason for beards? I always though they were for protection against punches to the jaw.

I always figured that they help protect the throat, i.e., it's harder to see where the throat begins and the beard ends, so it's hard to attack the throat with perfect precision.

attracts more feminine women as opposed to high testosterone manjaws.

I've got to hand it to you. I started using fresh lemon on gym days. The coconut oil I was using before just wasn't doing it. I still smell like lemon after heavy sweating.

Kombucha, brew it yourself, it really does work! Have tested it deliberately, one application and 48 hours later no smelly pits :)

credit goes to aajonus vonderplanitz for pointing that out to me.

as far as kombucha goes, why put cooked tea on your body when you can use raw lemons.

cooked things even on my skin give me a bad reaction. I remember using some organic herbal balm when I was sore. I felt relief but i later felt the detox from it everywhere I rubbed it due to the heat created toxins.
