Title: Hydration
Post by: Nicola on January 21, 2009, 03:41:24 am
I asked Dr. Groves about "drinking" fruit for water because I found sooo much information against fruit and carbs:

Fruit will certainly provide water to hydrate. But so will eggs (75%
 water)
and most other foods. I would avoid fruits because they contain
 fructose --
a sugar that has been shown to be the most harmful to health of all the

natural sugars.

Could you ask him what specific problems fructose causes (what does it affect on a biochemical level) AND what symtoms this may lead to?

I'm curious to see if what he mentions corresponds to the problems I had when I was eatin lots of fruit and very little meat (semi raw vegan style)

Dr. Groves gave me his opinion to my question; this is just confirming what I have learnt over many other articles and most of all http://www.zerocarbage.com/.

Please address your own questions to Dr. B. Groves and do your own research just like I and many others should do...and I do!

If i was you Nicola i would stop asking questions, throw all diet/health books in the bin and reach over over and unplug the computer from the wall and never turn it on ever again. Then i would fill my day with hobbies/housework which would free your mind from this hell.

Don't worry, I do just that; go out, go swimming and mix with "normal" people - just talk simple day to day talk. Children are a grate way of finding out what life is all about...no detox talk!

I must say that I ride to the swimming pool and on the way I do see a lot of people (in Baden, a small city) and I do have to think "is that life - is that health - is that happiness"? I think the sheep in the fields look more alive and natural than the humans I see in the city!!!

So I get back to the internet...to work things out again and find some sensible answers so that I can put up with the world an me again. Such is life!

Nicola, we can never be like the sheep again, you need to accept this fact. And a life with the sheep on the field would be a very lonely one! Do you feel the life of a sheep has any meaning? would such a life give you any happiness?

Maybe you need someone to talk to, a good friend? Something else to do than focus on food/health all the time.. You seem to have gotten too deep into analyzing diets/health and the deeper you get into it the harder it will be to get out

It's pointless living physically healthy to 200 years of age if you live that life alone and without happiness and contribution

Here's my opinion on this since I use fruits for hydration, and I live in a tropical country where we are blessed with so many organic by default hydrating, nutritious and not so sweet fruits.  As a result, I live literally without drinking either spring water or distilled water.

1. In my experience, fruits are far superior in hydration whether vs spring water vs distilled water... cleaner and safer too.

- If I and my kids run around the track on weekends, we do not lug around water bottles, we bring either: freshly opened coconut juice, raw citrus we call dalanghita / dalandan (it's not really sweet like oranges, just refreshing), or freshly opened water melons.

2. You can consciously choose not so sweet fruits and even fatty fruits to maintain a high fat raw paleo diet, which I am doing today.

For example, today, my day went like this:

- Breakfast:
Organic mountain raised papaya (sweet just right, refreshing)
2 fertilized eggs (so I get my fat)

- Mid morning, for a hydrating snack:
Street vendor freshly opened pineapple (sweet just right, refreshing)

- Lunch:
Tuna Sashimi
Some organic cane vinegar ( the tuna was a day old in the refrigerator )
Some garlic (don't know why I felt like eating it)

- Mid afternoon snack:
Coconut juice (very light sweet taste)
Coconut meat from the same coconut (fat)

- Dinner:
1/2 kilo of bloody raw beef.
But it was too lean.
So I got out a tablespoon of yellow butter.

If I get thirsty before going to bed I will open myself a coconut.

The other day we had durian for breakfast (fat and a little sweet)
Next month, maybe avocados will be cheaper as they will be more in season.
Avocado is fruit fat.

I limit my consumption of sweet fruits like yellow mangoes or bananas or jackfruit or graviola.

To tell the truth, the fruits I seem to do the best tend to be the ones with the most water.

Good With= melons, papaya, berries Etc

Not So Well With=dried fruit, especially raisins they give me the toots (although when I rehydrate raisins I do fine with them), bananas

Fresh meat is mostly water by weight and also provides hydration.

What part of Manila do you live in, goodsamaritan?  I just got back from the Philippines about three weeks ago.  I didn't see all the fresh fruits you mention here there.  I saw the fresh coconut juice the vendors sell on the roadside.  Maybe I went to the wrong places or something.  (I must admit I was there only for the nightlife though :P)  Also, the thing that bothered me the most about the Philippines was the smoke.  The air pollution there is horrible.  It was like there were no emission laws in the entire country.  All the vehicles emitted thick black smoke making it hard to breathe.  (at least for me anyway)  Btw, I traveled to Cebu, Mactan island, Laoag, Angeles City, and Manila.  I will be returning again soon but I'm not sure when.  I should have continued my raw food diet while I was there but I didn't because I was a bit scared of the quality of the food since there is so much poverty in the country.  Looking back, I think I should have just continued eating raw meats, etc anyway.   l)

I agree with the sheep comment.
No contact with children for me, there aren't any for miles at this time of year, and in summer they speak a language I don't know well enough.
The internet has possibly saved my life, maybe sanity as well.

The fruits are in the big wet markets.  Ask for local fruits.  Most local fruits are organic / wild by default. The non-organic and pesticide laden fruits are: yellow carabao mangoes, solo papayas, cavendish bananas

(I must admit I was there only for the nightlife though :P)

Over the course of our 3 billion years of evolution we have coexisted with other life forms. Many plants and animals developed toxins and other defense mechanisms to avoid being eating and reduce the population of the eaters.

With fruits we humans have this beautiful symbiotic relationship. There are no poisons except around the seeds. They provide us with this highly nutritious food source and we spread the seeds. It has been a fabulous marriage.  There are fruit trees and vines all over the world and we have this wonderful food to enjoy. The highlight of my day is a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice drink and later a tomato juice cocktail.

Today I went to the grocery store and for the first time all I had was fresh fruits and vegetables. (I get meat from a local rancher) I will eat them all raw.

My rule of thumb is that if my urine is yellow I need to drink more water. Water flushes out the toxins. Drink and be merry. Water needs depend on the level of exercise. I get a lot of exercise and consume about a gallon of water a day. A sedentary person would not need nearly as much.
