Off Topic / Zoloft Nation = Lack of a tribe?
« on: December 11, 2010, 01:10:06 pm »
Anyone else feel that perhaps a reason why everyone is so depressed around us (outside of diet reasons) is due to a sub-conscious or conscious lack of community in today's society? One need only look at the web to see the truth in this. The massive amounts of dating websites, the forums (not just for advice), and chat rooms.  I remember reading up on one author who explained why, for example, when one is rejected from a potential mate or group of friends, the reason why the the rejection feeling is associated with a feeling of death to most people is because back in the day when we we're in our tribes, rejection did mean death. If humans were rejected from the tribe and left on their own to survive, it was only a matter of time before they were killed by predators or starved to death. Today's all the new means of communication (e.g. texting, internet) doesn't seem to do justice to real in the moment face to face interaction. Thus, we have some fellow raw paleoists eating together on skype because today's society has rejected the idea of eating raw animal products and we are lacking the once social activity of eating. There is no doubt we are social animals. Today, at least in the US and in other industrialized nations, there is no tribe/community. Once community organized events are disappearing.  A lot of people are stuck in their homes and are suspicious of their neighbors.  I know this isn't the case for everyone and everywhere and I apologize if this just sounds like rambling but its just something I've been thinking about lately.  Perhaps this all comes as a result of society that is based on an exchange of currency. Thoughts?

I saw someone mention eating raw honey with raw meat. Should one eat raw honey with raw meat? If so, why and how much?

Does anybody here stay or have stayed to a strictly raw dairy and raw meat diet like the Masai? If so, any comments on such a diet from health perspective?

Do what every you want dude! I don't think a cup of Tea will kill you whether cavemen did it or not, while so many things that are out of your control could. Get stoned, drink tea and enjoy life a little  -d! Just don't over do it. Everything in moderation is key.  ;)

Yeah this was definitely interesting. I've been trying all meat (1 organ, some back fat, and stew lean meat) and I've noticed that my eye become blood shot and dry afterwards. Interestingly enough, that is what every one commented about. Hmmm...they seem to also suggest rice and potatoes and people seem to feel better with this. But that isnt paleo! What the hell? This article seems to state that it isn't healthy and that fruit isnt a good carb source.

You haven't found an organ you like?

Which ones have you tried?

Liver is the most tolerable because i use to eat liverwurst pate as a kid on crackers.  Heart taste like nothing. and kidneys are just tooo strong tasting and smelling (must be the urine in them) so thats the deal thus far. I'm afraid to try pancreas.

Can anyone recommend Dr. Ron's Organ Supplements? Can they actually supplement eating organs for those of us that don't really enjoy the organ eating aspect of the diet  -\?

I'm trying to go mostly carnivore to. At the moment...I dont enjoy eating fat right out of the fridge at all and when I leave it out in the open air it tends to get dryer and "crumblier". should I just force myself to get used to it and hope ill eventually crave it or should I perhaps heat it a little bit to make it more palatable?

Hot Topics / Re: Warming up Meat/Fat
« on: November 08, 2010, 03:16:53 pm »
I warm my back fat, not my meat. I use a microwave/convection oven. I can set the oven for 100 degrees in convection mode, and it warms the fat to about body temperature.

how long do you keep it in the oven for 100 degrees? do you wrap it in tin foil?

So I've been debating taking some of these supplements to help assist in going as low carb as possible. I was told L-Glutamine and Gymnema Sylvestre are great for killing sugar cravings and L-Carnitine reduces the time it takes to go into a ketogenic state. Anybody had any luck with these?

When going ZC, would it be safe to go : 1/2 pound lean muscle meat, 1lb mix of organ meats, and 2/3lb fat as the main meal? I'm trying to avoid becoming to thin and developing kidney stones. I read in the book Primal body-Primal Mind that 45-55 grams of protein was sufficient for an olympic body builder and the excessive protein is just as bad as eating excessive carbs. So please help me find the a good balance.
