Nicola, you could show your father the video "Fiber Menace" that is on this forum somewhere.

Nicola's father isn't the problem. From her posts it's clear even she isn't convinced that RPD is a healthy way of eating.

I developed mild scurvy (I assume it was scurvy) while on cooked zero carb a couple of years ago. The teeth themselves are ok, but I have receded gum lines now. What foods are recommended to heal this? raw ZC or raw Low Carb is the question. I think raw omnivorous diet makes my teeth/gums better but zero carb makes my skin and hair better and less oily. I think the problems with my teeth on zero carb is from a lack of fresh organ meats. I think the best diet for me is a carnivore diet where the majority of meat comes from organs not muscle meat. Grass fed organ meats are incredibly hard to come get a hold of though.

I also have alot of yellow hard tartar on the base of the teeth around the gums from when I ate cooked foods (it stopped building up since eating raw, but what was there is stuck like cement). Is it possible to get rid of this without a (costly) trip to the dentist? I'd think it's worsening my tooth/gum health despite my better diet.

In the ebook they are convinced that humans are vegans.

Well the physiology of humans is always shown to be carnivorous with the ability to digest selective plant foods. Is their any scientific basis for their claim that humans are vegans in the book, or have they just concluded that because they 'feel good' on the diet?

Not much fat comes from quality animal meats on a SAD. So much is hydrogenated vegetable oil which is nutritionally worthless.

There are two reasons why raw vegan can stop mensuration
 1) because of a lack of nutrients found in meat needed to produce hormones
 2) It's common for raw vegans to lose a lot of weight, and menstruation stops in people who practice omnivorous calorie restriction as well.

Definitely I believe raw vegans are lacking a lot of good stuff, but their diet eliminates a lot of bad things i.e. the processed and unnatural foods of SAD.

I believe that ideally humans are carnivorous, but don't necessarily think that a raw vegan diet of different types of organic fruits is that unhealthy in comparison to a SAD of chips, fried foods, confectioneries, pizzas, processed junk.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: De Vany vs. Graham
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:49:33 am »
Judging diet by appearance is silly, since the bone development and appearance while growing effects how you look as an adult. People with symmetrical well developed faces will always look better and younger. Paleo people had good faces because they started their diet from birth which is the most important time with regards to appearance, while most gurus and followers of obscure diets begin once they have already grown. Someone could come here and say SAD is the most superior diet showing pictures of people who follow SAD and look better than anyone in this thread, but of course it would be irrelevant.

I don't know who Graham is, but I just read he does a 80/10/10 (carb/protein/fat) diet.

I know that De Vany does a cooked paleo diet + intermittent fasting.

De Vany obviously looks in better shape

meat doesn't make the body acidic. Acidic or Alkaline foods don't effect the acidity of the body. Weak digestion makes the body acidic. Proper digestion requires strong stomach acid (strong stomach acid being needed to stop the acidity of the blood is probably the reason for the confusion), which a carb free diet allows. Stomach acid precedes the release of alkaline digestive juices. Without the stomach acid the digestion process can't occur properly and the body becomes acidic, bloated etc.

It's explained in more detail here, about 3/4 of the way through

General Discussion / Re: How to consume bones?
« on: January 25, 2010, 08:48:26 am »
It's funny how it's often the food of the poor that turns out to be healthy. For example raw oysters in the UK were seen for centuries as "poor mans' food".

The poor eat for nutrition. The rich eat for entertainment.

General Discussion / Re: Is chilli or cayenne bad for you?
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:26:27 pm »
I think spices are bad for you. Sweating, runny nose and flushing is pretty standard. Sign of an allergic reaction. Would never eat them again.

where is the evidence of short lifespan amongst hunter gatherers?

Paleo people aged slower without degeneration of the body (the quality of their bones at the time of death shows this) which could only mean they would have lived longer.

I upped my protein intake just like the raw meat using body builders.
Striving to get at least 125 grams of protein a day to match my 125 lbs.
1 kg a day.  Can't eat more than that.
On my 2nd day now with me in touch with my coach.

instead of eating 1g of protein per lb of body weight, eat  1 - 1.5 grams for every pound of lean body mass. The bodybuilder you are talking to is probably very muscular which is why they said that. If you are fat with little muscle you are getting too much protein.

General Discussion / Re: Aged/High Meat
« on: January 20, 2010, 02:11:26 pm »
you can dry age meat, and you can age meat with moisture. High meat is just aged meat, that been aged a long time. Most age it in a jar with moisture for more bacteria, and air it once a day for oxygen.

142
This thread is ludicrous. Gaining 10lbs of muscle in less than a week is impossible, and you most certainly will gain fat on zero carb if you gorge and don't exercise. Check what forum you are in - most of us are not only familiar with but have actually been on or are on this diet. I'm glad you're seeing positives from it though, but don't exaggerate so much.

General Discussion / Re: Shouldn't my grass-fed suet be yellowish?
« on: December 29, 2009, 08:03:17 am »
my grassfed fat has been both white and yellow. I always suspected it was the age of the animal. Younger animals when grass fed still have white fat because beta carotene changes the colour of the fat over time.

Never had a problem with it. I only eat ground beef never whole cuts because ground beef is cheaper. The beef is frozen.

General Discussion / Re: Evidence that raw fats are good for humans?
« on: December 28, 2009, 06:55:50 pm »
Studies on raw meat is often not carried out because it's probably thought that it would be too dangerous because of bacteria, e coli etc. to even attempt. However I have a feeling your mother 'knows' that raw animal fats are bad for you and no study, no matter how convincing and accurate would change her mind.

that's actually very interesting what William said. That devolution took place not evolution. I guess there is two scenarios; That only the more superior could survive when people started eating bad diets hence evolution (I don't think humans as a species have adapted to say grains, but some people white not adapted clearly tolerate better than others), or that poor diet can change the genes passed on and negative gene traits were passed on hence devolution.

they might not eat raw and eat organs and meats cooked, but most people don't eat that at all. And their meats and vegetables are cooked in a stew with water which is better than frying in some hydrogenated oil like westerners. Basically their diet is not absolutely perfect but it's decently healthy.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Frequency of low carb meals?
« on: December 15, 2009, 11:12:20 am »
That's a lie. A marketing gimmick to sell diet books to sloths who want to lose weight but can not stop gorging themselves. Fats are the most effectively stored form of energy.

People lose weight on low carb diets because removing sugars removes hunger. People eat less without realizing because of reduced hunger and think they lost weight on the same amount of calories.
