What's the difference on a diet that is high in carbohydrates, low in carbohydrates and a moderate amount of carbohydrates?
Different needs for different circumstances, that's why a once size fits all approach usually never work.  There are day's when you need to eat more carbs, for instance when you are doing a lot of physical activity.  And there are day's when you need more fats for healing and repair of you body.  Aside from listening to your body, be aware of what you are doing and any future plans that involve either a lot of physical activity or rest.

How can one avoid either of these extremes?
Aside from listening to your body, be aware of what you are doing and any future plans that involve either a lot of physical activity or rest, and adjust accordingly.

What do you think is ideal for yourself?

Usually when I am doing more working out or alot of physical activity I end up eating more calories in general, the calories I usually eat on those days are usually excess carbs I need for glycogen storage and fuel.

On normal day's I usually eat somewhere around 40-45% fat 15% Protein and the rest carbs.  I kind of take the moderate approach.  I do stay lower in protein though since I do think there is a point where you can overload on too much protein.  That's why I eat fatty cuts of meat, "lean" cuts of meat with all the fat trimmed never appealed to me since were always so dry.  Growing up I always went for the drumstick and the fatty skin when we had chicken, which have more fat.

What do you guys use your bone broth tea's for?  I was thinking of heating them up enough to liquefy the fats again and drinking it straight; or using it as a base for tea.  I guess really the possibilities are endless.

To be honest I'm rather inclined to chew on a few bones and dig out some of the marrow for myself and then give the rest to my dog.

Oh also do I need to store it in the fridge or can I leave it out in a cool dry place?

So I made some bone broth soup today and I took one of the bones and it was very brittle so I started to chew on it.  It was very crumbly and I was able to get down into the marrow and it was really good.  Is this safe to do?  I felt like if I ate too much I was going to overload on calcium or something so I gave the rest to my dog (i'm sure he loves the fact that I do this for him and I really like giving my dog the best nutrition possible so I don't feel like I wasted anything).  But I was wondering can you do anything with the left over bones?  I feel like it would be very easy to grind up into a powder, but what would I do with that?  Any suggestions?  As an aside I am glad nothing was thrown away.

Man that sounds really good!  I wish America had more traditional styles and culture it would be a lot more interesting here.  There are a few regional differences but not a lot of distinct styles of culture.

We have smelt at our local supermarket. Goes for $5USD/lb. The vary in size from 3-4 inches or so. They can be pretty fat sometimes, they are delicious greek style with lemon and other toppings.

What is greek style?  I've put some tapenade on fish before and that's REALLY good.

So I got into an exchange with a vegetarian today and we had a few back and forth's about diet and what not.  Mostly I was saying how you can't really thive on a vegan diet without any animal proteins at all.  I was saying that he did in fact consume animal proteins from the milk and eggs he consumed.  Then we went back and forth some more, mostly me bashing grains and whatnot.  And then he mentioned that he ate fish a few times a month!!  I was like great atleast you're not completely destroying your health!!  I think he did eat grains and I'm not 100% sure where I stand on full on raw paleo (although I ate some grass fed beef raw for breakfast this morning and it was delish (sp)?) but I am certain that grains probably aren't the best thing to be eating.  Oh and he usually ate it raw sushi grade salmon or tuna.  It's funny because I always though vegetarianism meant no flesh, and he said he didn't consume flesh but isn't fish flesh?  Either way I though it was funny.

Does anyone know where to get raw sardines?  I love sardines but they only come canned.  Has anyone ever ate them raw?

I've always thought of kudzu like clouds and I am always looking for different animal patterns in the kudzu overgrowth

It's mainly lack of protein on that diet that's causing problems.. you need A LOT of fruit to get enough complete protein. Apparently more than what 3-4000 calories of fruit provide. And then if you don't exercise all the extra sugar will just drive you crazy.

My hypothesis is that not all the calories from fruit are absorbed in the body, since fruit goes through the digestive track so quick you might only be absorbing 50-60% of the calories you are taking in.  So someone who is consuming only 3000 calories might only be absorbing 1500-1800 calories and the rest is eliminated.  I mean there has been studies showing that more calories are available for absorption through cooking foods, and then there is always a balance between overcooking and lightly cooking if you do cook your food.

I go through cycles. Generally, I eat a lot less in extremely hot weather, and when I'm getting less exercise.

Ya I'm kinda new to the non vegan part of raw, I'm just kind of going with the flow it's just something I've noticed over the past month.  Certainly not afraid of eating 3000+ calories, just kind of trying to do what feels right in the moment.  I'm sure there will be times when I eat a whole lot more than I am now since things tend to go in cycles.

I'm sure there are plenty of farmers in the Southern USA who would be happy to let you harvest their kudzu.

They call it "the vine that ate the south."

haha so true

Hey anyone here from the North Carolina area?  I'm not from here originally but have lived here for the last 15 years (since 10th grade in High school).  Right now I work as a database analyst in Greensboro but for the last five years I've known that I've wanted to live off the grid and farm/hunt for my food one day so I've sold my car and I bike everywhere and just been saving up money.  Would love to find someone in the same place as me in life and who shares similar interests and goals so we can work together and support each other.  Oh and someone who isn't that materialistic and is a hard worker!

People who eat 811rv or mostly raw 811 eat fruit non stop.  Pretty much around the clock eating over 4000 calories and men STILL get rail thin and emaciated.  I'm just glad I don't have to center my day around eating each and every meal.

It's kind of weird right now I feel like I should be shoveling banana's down but I don't!  It's very nice I feel like I can divert my time and energy to other things that I did prior to 811.  I don't really want/need to lose weight since I'm hovering around 150 at 5'8" so I'm good there.  Its like I can finally have a life again lol.

Ever since the switch from predominately 811rv with some cooked carbs here and there to adding in some raw fish and some eggs I've noticed that I'm just not hungry all the time.  It doesn't feel like I've lost me appetite or anything I know right now I could eat a whole chicken if I wanted to I just don't want to.  Does this normally happen?  I still eat just not as much, I am eating about 10-30% less calories in a day.  I feel satiated pretty much all day long.  When I do eat it's been a moderate amount.

In his latest video durianrider actually addresses the fact that he looks aged, and chalks it up to the fact that he's an 'athlete' because some famous australian marathon runner is thin and looks aged as well.  Not a good excuse imo if you're trying to be the model of health and wellbeing for the 811rv diet.

ya that was what i was thinking.  I think there are alot of oils in the roobioos tea i drink so maybe i need to add some cream so i can get all the anti-oxidents and nutrients.

Honestly the better looking raw vegans usually are eating more fat.  Look at Harley aka Durianrider, he's 33 and in the last year he's look like he has aged quite a bit as well.

22
I ask because kenyan marathon runners drink a lot of tea and they add milk (mostly unpasturized) in their tea, so I was wondering if some of the anti-oxidants found in tea's are fat soluble and would benefit from having some raw milk or cream added to them?  I guess the same question applies to coffee too.  Any idea's?

I do alot of gymnastics, yoga and dance.  Most of the "exercises" that are involved on the upperbody are body weight exercises.   Some of the upper level yoga poses like arm balances and hand stands are not only fun but they build a TON of strength and power.

I tend to enjoy functional exercises that I can incorporate into dance moves since I can get pretty creative and that serves as a creative outlet for me.

Hot Topics / Re: Would Any Raw Vegans Do Better on Cooked Paleo?
« on: March 15, 2012, 01:24:32 am »
Well, If I have to ballpark a figure, I'd say 50% of raw vegans in their first year of raw veganism would feel better on cooked Paleo.  At 2-3 years, I'd say it's more like 60-70%.  At the 5 year mark, 80-90%.

Majorly rough numbers, based entirely on the raw vegans I've known IRL and online.

I think if nothing else ALOT of raw vegans would benefit from taking a little krill oil or cod liver oil.  I've talked to a lot of vegans and ex-vegans that saw a dramatic change when they added fish or fish oils to their diet.
