If you cut your meat thinly, you can dry it at 104 degrees Fahrenheit. It takes about 12 hours. As for fat, I rendered lard in a dehydrator at 135 degrees Fahrenheit. It took me about 12 hours. I got a lower yield because I could get all the fat out. I think I can do it at a lower temperature because the melting point of fat is not high. You have to try. Just blend your fat in a food processor and put a layer of it in a strainer. The fat will drip.

My dogs gain weight on raw zero carb.  But, they are not fat; they stop eating if I feed them too much. If zero carb was meant for us, we would gain weight too. If we couldn’t stabilize our body weight, we weren’t supposed to be on this diet.

Andrew and Lex are doing fine on the diet. Lex gained weight at some point. Read his journal.

I have been on carnivore diet since Jan 10. I mostly eat five eggs yolks and some dried meat in the morning and 1.5 pounds of sirloin steak in the evening. It was only the first day that my pulse went from around 60 beats per minutes to around 80.  I think I didn’t eat enough. I lost 2-3 pounds. One positive effect is I no longer have a white coating on my tongue.

Previously, I was 100% raw for three and a half years. Now I have to pan sear my steak for 30 seconds on each side. It doesn’t do much just have a little brown layer on each side. By doing so, I can eat a larger quantity of beef to satisfy my energy requirement since I don’t obtain energy from coconut milk and avocado any more. I try to go to the bathroom once a day. It takes a long time to get it out since no much comes out.

I hope it won’t cause me any problems.

Kyle, you should try soaking it as the doctor advised. If it is not better or getting worse, just take antibiotic drugs. It is better than getting your toe amputed. If you are not careful, the infection can spread to your bone. It can cause serious problems. You can also use antibiotic ointment. It won't get into your system that much, but your wound will get healed more quickly.

I usually buy lamb from Foodland.  Foodland here imports lamb from Australia or New Zealand.  There is lot of fat.  It is not 100% grass fed, but sheep spend most of their life eating grass.

Other source of fat:

Egg yolk is 79% fat by calories.
Coconut milk is 91% fat.
Avocado is 89% fat.

Happy birthday!!!

There are some items on sashimi plate that are not raw.  Octopus and crab are usually not raw.  If the octopus and crab looked like the ones in the picture below, they were not raw.  The crab meat in the picture is not even crab meat; it is fake crab meat (imitation crab meat, made of nasty stuff). Shrimp is not quite raw either. Squid is usually raw.

If you plan to dry meat often, you may consider building Lex's Dehydrator Model or buying a food dehydrator such as Excalibur Food Dehydrator (http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/). It's about $200. I bought one two years ago. It's a good product.
