Health / Sulfuric gas
« on: February 28, 2011, 07:41:31 am »
Ok, who has experienced gas with a very sulfuric smell? Can this be a bad sign?

This is the first time it's ever happened to me. Honestly, my usual gas, if any, would smell worse in my opinion, but this is just a bit alarming.

I've read it can be related to poor liver function, which I've been pointed to by almost all of my symptoms throughout the years.

Some people seem to suffer from this chronically for years, but I don't know if this is actually a bad sign..

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Blood type and avoiding beef..
« on: February 28, 2011, 01:25:04 am »
I'm finally really looking into the blood type diet, because I do believe there may be something there to learn from. I have seen the thread on "debunking" the blood type diet, but that doesn't convince me. I am also not convinced that there is 100% truth to the blood type diet, but that's why I am going to give this a try.

I've read about certain blood types avoiding specific meats like beef and rather going for lamb and fish. Someone in this forum even posted a comment about trying this.

Has anyone here followed a blood type diet for some time? Do you prefer going for lamb and fish over beef for any reasons?

I feel like I am not doing good on beef at all. It is 100% grass-fed, but I am not feeling nearly as good as when I was without it for around two weeks.

At the very beginning of my raw paleo journey about 3 months ago, I started off on supermarket bison (probably grain-fed). I remember feeling much better on that compared to when I started eating grass-fed beef.

I seem to fit the description of the B blood type. Raw dairy, so far, has been the best food for me, in my opinion.

I am curious, so I am going to take a cheap blood test to find my blood type, possibly tomorrow.

Of course, this is something that works for some and doesn't work for others, but this may very well be something for me.

I think I will cut beef out of my diet again and go meatless for another while. If things improve, I will get some lamb or white fish and see how that goes, regardless if my blood type is under the category which recommends to do so.

I do believe in the wonderful benefits and necessity of eating raw animal foods. This is why I am here. However, for some reason, it may be possible that I just can't tolerate beef as much as others meats. The only meats I've tried to this point has been bison, beef and salmon. The bison and salmon were occasional and I have really only been eating beef for the most part. Time to try other meats.

Hot Topics / New Daniel Vitalis interview about raw food, evolution..
« on: February 19, 2011, 11:06:01 pm »

Here's a really recent interview done by David Wolfe, discussing some very interesting questions with Daniel Vitalis.

There's a small part about evolution and the commonly accepted Darwinian theory, and once again, I completely agree with Daniel. I still really haven't heard him say anything which I disagree with, which is very surprising to me.

I'm still listening to it and really enjoying it..

Health / Anyone use a shower filter? Recommendations?
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:07:04 am »
So, it's about time my family gets a shower filter. Personally, I haven't showered in over 2 months now (yeah, sounds gross?), but I feel much better this way and surprisingly I really don't smell bad according to my family. Anyway, I'm thinking of showering occasionally and for the sake of everyone in my family, I want to get a shower filter.

What kind of shower filter do you use? What do you recommend? I'm looking into the Vitamin C ones, they seem to work very well..

Journals / First Raw Milk/Dairy Journal (USA)
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:01:42 am »
Ok, I just found out through a new colleague that I can have raw milk and other raw animal foods delivered to my town every week from a grass-fed farm which is in a more hidden town over an hour away.. I am so stoked! Originally, I was planning on starting a raw milk/dairy experiment once I arrive in Switzerland in March for four weeks, but I just met someone today who told me all about this and gave me a half a gallon of her raw milk to try out. The milk comes from brown swiss cows which are apparently mainly grass-fed, so what I am getting here should be similar quality to what I will be getting in Switzerland. I am doing this for my health to see if I can benefit from raw milk and/or other dairy. If I really don't do well on this, I probably will stop, but I have yet to see.

Health problems I'm facing are mainly digestive tract related as far as I know. I believe I've developed food intolerances which set off fatigue, cystic acne, digestive problems in general and more that I may not be fully aware of. I've suffered from insomnia for years to varying degrees and I have all the symptoms of estrogen dominance and very low testosterone. My weight has also been going down throughout the years after puberty up until now, while it seems I definitely am gaining at least a little weight because of RAF. It has been 2 months since starting on RAF.

Day 1: I had about 2 cups of the milk around 5:00 PM. It is delicious! I haven't had milk in years, and real milk in over 11 years as I used to drink raw milk as a child in Switzerland. My stomach has been making just a few noises, but it does not seem upset at all so far.

Health / Burning stomach from raw honey
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:13:36 am »
To all of you who eat raw honey, does your stomach ever burn from after consuming a good amount on an empty stomach?

I used to eat raw honey in the morning on an empty stomach and then only ate it when I had something else in my stomach or was eating meat at the time.

I felt like eating it in the morning again and sure enough, my stomach "burns" pretty intensely after 20 to 30 minutes of eating a few tablespoons on an empty stomach.

I'm still wondering what the hell this is..

The last time I had such a feeling was when I made an attempt at a parasite cleanse with a wormwood, black walnut.. etc..

Off Topic / The Great Health Debate
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:06:20 am »
So, it looks like this is will be a big online event with lots of debating about what is the best diet for us (focusing on animal foods vs. no animal foods). Daniel Vitalis and David Wolfe will be in there..

As of right now you can still sign up for free..

I doubt there will be too much for me to learn, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

Health / To those who are/were on the Warrior Diet..
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:42:00 am »
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I know there are a few of you here that have at least tried the Warrior Diet in combination with Raw Paleo.

If you stopped doing it, why was that?

I am totally feeling the advantages of the fasting/undereating period. My energy comes back and I can think clearly. It really is amazing in that aspect..

However, I find that the "overeating" period is really no good for me. Actually, I think this may be one flaw of the warrior diet.

Since my digestion has been so screwed for years, overeating is really what has made everything worse for me and I usually was never able to control it. When I could control my eating, things would improve for me and I keep forgetting this, so I must remember.

I know Raw Paleo is right for me, but how I incorporate it into my life is very important. I'm still finding what's best for me.

It doesn't seem to be stated very specifically how you should be "overeating" at night. I think I am taking my overeating to the extreme here, where it's completely unhealthy.

Being on it for two days now, I have gotten the "runs" exactly the same every night and increased acne, which was well on its way out.

My plan is to eat a little less and a little more slowly tomorrow during the 4 hours I have to eat. If things don't improve, I will start eating either very small amounts of food throughout the day or two smaller meals.

What are your experiences on the Warrior Diet?

General Discussion / Sour meat?
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:19:19 am »
I've just enjoyed my first meal of tri-tip steak tonight. Lots of beautiful pieces of fat in there which tasted great and were very easy to eat.

What really struck me here was the sour taste. I was immediately reminded of dried meats like prosciutto and salami which I ate a lot during my childhood back in Switzerland, where this stuff was top quality.

It's a really nice taste, just a kind of "sour" taste. I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, probably one of my favorites so far!

Now, the first thing that came to mind was that these are most likely lactobacillus bacteria which make the meat taste sour since the butcher I bought them from has an aging room where they age their meats a few weeks. I didn't ask him much about it yesterday, though, so I don't know for sure if this was aged or not.

This must be it, though. Am I right?

Do you come across sour meat often? Do you enjoy it? I'm thinking this should be wonderful for my body.. I hope so!

I just visited the only butcher in town and asked him about their meats and if they were grass-fed or not. I was told all of their beef was grass-fed but grain-finished. Besides that, he told me about the quality of everything they sell, which seems to be legitimate. I purchased some fatty cuts of meat for a pretty great price and lots of pork belly as well (to try it out, as I need more fat and have been accustomed to eating only ground beef for over a month and I need to go for some different things here).

What do you think about grain-finished meat? I'm at least glad the cows were raised on grass. I'll see how I react to this..

Hot Topics / Strange reaction from raw liver?
« on: December 22, 2010, 09:35:33 am »
I finally received my first shipment from UsWellness today! I got some heart, liver, and loads of ground beef. I know, I'll get some good fats next time..

But, to the point..

I opened the package of liver and cut out maybe around a 4th of the whole thing (the package is a pound).

I was surprised, it was sweet and delicious.. and then I felt like my body was just hit with some kind of drug after just a few minutes.

I felt a bit nauseous, but not like usual. Vision was getting blurry, felt like I was going to pass out and my ears and certain parts of my body felt like a hot rush was passing through them. It felt like a rush of blood going to my head mainly. I did my caveman squat and got a grasp and felt fine and still do now after a half an hour.

Can this be from the Vitamin A? My father tried to convince me that raw liver has much more vitamin A than cooked liver.

I am glad, at least, that I listened to my body..

Has anyone else had such a reaction to liver or other organ meats?

I am curious as to how people have reacted early on to eating specifically raw meat. I am not on a 100% raw paleo diet as of yet, but have been focusing on raw meats for two weeks now. The only thing I haven't been eating raw is Wehani rice, because I feel I need the carbohydrates. Things I've eaten raw so far include wild caught salmon, bison steaks, grass-fed ground beef, and grass-fed smoked uncured bacon (probably doesn't count). Money is very scarce for me right now, so I can't be buying bulk products from sites like Slanker's.

A few weeks ago, before starting on raw meats, things were just ok in terms of health. I've had some severe health problems ever since taking antibiotics years ago which include leaky gut, candida, parasites, acne, chronic fatigue, bloating and weight loss. I've been fighting this for at least two years now with nonstop research, but rarely getting any relief.

The first things I felt from eating raw meats was a little more energy and a kind of euphoria which has only occurred early on once or twice. I pay attention to food combining rules, as my digestion seems like anything but optimal. I have had no digestive discomfort from any raw meats, especially compared to the heavy feeling of eating cooked meats. I usually ate my carbs (rice) in the morning/midday and proteins and fats at night (not at the same time though). I've now switched this since yesterday to eating my meat and fats in the day while eating rice at night. I absolutely know when I eat what affects my energy levels.

I couldn't find any fatty grass-fed meats around my area, but I did pick up some uncured, smoked bacon of very high quality and would go crazy for the fat on it. It seemed to give me a tremendous boost in energy. I've read a lot about raw animal fats and how important they can be for your health, so I really think this is very vital for me. Because I can't get any raw animal fats at the moment, I've been drinking a number of big spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil, thinking it would help me out with my energy levels as I usually get extremely fatigued during the day, especially when I am at work. The olive oil does seem to be doing me some good as far as I can tell. I used to avoid fats as much as possible because of bloating and fear of fermentation.

Zero carb and high fat is something I've done before, but at that time, things were at an all time low considering my health. It wasn't doing me any good, that's why I eat rice. I did all sorts of cleanses, detoxes and enemas.. and only a certain colon cleanse did something for me.

Now, I love this paleolithic, raw diet, but I have yet to see how it impacts me overall.

How long did it take for you to notice any positive changes due to eating raw meats and fats? Did you experience any worsening of any kind of symptoms before they got better?

I hate to post another typical thread filled with worries of someone that is in a big mess of health problems, but I really am curious here. I also know everyone is different.

Just a while ago, I had some severe cramping after eating my rice for the night and was able to go to the bathroom. Fear of constipation already rose, but I was relieved by a mass of waste. I apologize for being graphic, but it looked extremely dark and murky and looked like it had parasites and some kind of bacterial colonies along with it. I could be mistaken.

My acne, which seemed to be close to being completely gone at the time I started this diet, has now worsened to an extent.

Maybe my body is in no condition to handle this diet, but hopefully my body is cleansing itself how it should..

I will see how things go for at least another week. I appreciate any responses.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Slanker's Pet Food?
« on: December 03, 2010, 02:45:16 am »
Hey everyone. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I've read some people buy the mixed, ground "pet" food from Slanker's and eat it regularly. I read it's considered pet food because it has a higher fat to meat ratio (is that right?). At the cheap price they charge for it, I was thinking of getting quite a bit of this. Who here regularly eats the pet food? I am guessing it's quite calorie dense and nutritious as it's got a good amount of protein and fat with the organs mixed in. Would you recommend or not recommend this? With the higher fat content, could it be a problem for us to digest it properly?

Welcoming Committee / Greetings to everyone!
« on: December 02, 2010, 07:42:56 am »
Hello there! I'm almost 18 years old and was born in Switzerland. I've been into health for over 2 years now although suffering some health conditions like chronic fatigue, candida, leaky gut, and many other possible illnesses. My health really suffered two years ago after taking antibiotics. Just as my health was going downhill, I was learning about true health and cleaning up everything I could. My body was just such a mess that many things I did to try and improve my health actually caused very bad reactions which seemed to set me back further due to all of the sensitivities I had developed. Recently, I went to a naturopath and used spagyric homeopathic medicine and high grade supplements for a few months through kinesiology which really kicked my immune system back into action. I've run out of money for that and now I have accepted that my health is in my hands, through diet and lifestyle. I've always had a "clean" diet since 2 years ago, trying many different things in the process. Now, I've been sticking to the food combining rules to help my digestion as much as possible since it is not very capable of many things. I eat the same things everyday, or have been (completely willing to change), which is just lots of organic black forbidden and red bhutanese rice for brunch and quality meat dinner. I occasionally eat some carrots either raw or steamed. I think I've got a rice addiction, but hopefully I can either cut down or completely cut it out if I can form a good diet plan with the help of this forum. I used to eat eggs for breakfast but realized they give me severe fatigue.

This isn't my first time trying to go raw, but it definitely is for raw meat. There are many testimonials I've seen and read about eating raw meat specifically to treat digestive disorders and related illnesses, so I really wanted to go for it. I started by cooking each side of my meats for a minute or so and then eating it. It's delicious and makes me feel great, no more irritated digestion. I've been on it for about a week now and things are really going well as far as I can tell. The whole "caveman" aspect really appeals to me. Not only do I look like one, but I want to be in the same great health, haha.

I've looked into sources for quality meats and I'm glad I have found Slanker's. I know many people on this forum order from them. What do you recommend from their selection for good value and nutrition? I'm quite a bit into bodybuilding, so I heard lots of fatty raw meats should be good (I'm a very hard gainer)? I'm curious as to how more fats will be affecting my body. When I used to go high fat and zero carb, I really would not feel well and get extremely bloated.

I'm going to have to do some experimenting here, but I know this is what I want. I hope to continue learning as I always do, and this place seems wonderful for that.
