Just curious if you all think cooking is worse than grains/zero animal foods.

Miller's farm in Pensylvania. But they only ship to broward and miami in florida.

Are you sure it's such a good idea to request it unfrozen and ship it from PA to Florida? Unless of course you're shipping it overnight with icepacks.

General Discussion / Re: Where to Get Quality Raw Animal Fat?
« on: July 14, 2012, 04:41:04 am »
I can never seem to find good quality, raw animal fat. I have a supplier that can get me rendered beef tallow, which tastes disgusting to me because it's been so cooked. I have one place that I order online from to get raw beef suet, but it tastes disgusting as well and is impossible to eat because my body basically rejects it. I feel this is a sign that the quality of the fat isn't great.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding good raw animal fat? My favorite fat is the fat off of muscle meats that has been warmed, but not to the point of it being "cooked." I find that addictive.

Cooked fat makes me so nauseous I can't stand it, and I am on a very special version of the raw no-carb diet because my pancreas is totally shot. I can only eat about 45 grams of protein per day and the rest of my calories are pure fat. If I stray from this my body punishes me brutally with high blood sugar, then low blood sugar, then severe pancreatitis-like pain. So, finding good fat is important.

Finding quality raw fat is my biggest challenge too. Look on http://www.eatwild.com/ or try contacting your local Weston A Price Foundation Chapter to find nearby grassfed animal farmers. You can also try slanker's grassfed beef, u.s. wellness beef, or northstar bison online.

A fatty cut of Brisket is my favorite. I call it my meat pizza cause the fat looks like cheese on top of meat occasionally.

Could you "safely" eat a diet solely of avocados?

Not that I want or plan to, I'm just curious.

Is pork belly okay to eat raw? I saw some at my local co-op and it looked fatty and delicious.

I used to eat this daily during my early Paleo days (which was only like a year ago). I would much rather eat the organs separately, personally. I like ground beef, but the addition of the organs made it really hard to eat, unless I seared it for flavor. Also, I think it's risky to eat ground meat, as you are surely getting a whole cocktail of bacteria within the whole burger, rather than just on the outside as with regular cuts. Some people here aren't concerned with bacteria, but I am still cautious to an extent. I ate it for a while without any consequences, however, so I can't say it's inherently unsafe, but I wouldn't recommend it. Treat yourself to some real cuts like brisket or chuck roast.

Hmmmm - a different take than the medical explanation... but ok....

Hey, whatever actually works, works - whatever definition you use I guess.

Be careful with beet juice - that can make the liver detox so fast it can make your head spin like in the Exorcist - I mean really it.... Go slow with that stuff with a clogged up liver. Do a little first and see what happens.

Yeah, I'm not planning on really doing anything he says lol, but just thought I should share it. I have heard from another source that I trust (that source being Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride) that green juices help dissolve gallstones.

KIDNEY STONES are crystallized cooked vegetablefat resins and crystallized hydrogenated fats and oils, and mineral salts that collect and form into clusters and clumps in the kidneys. I have had many kidney stones analyzed. Most were composed of food additives such as flavor and fragrance oils. Many were composed of crystallized oils from syrups and candies.
Most stones are formed during sleep. Kidney stones cause pain originating in the middle back that reaches around to the lower abdominal area, increased urination that sometimes contains blood or pus, sometimes sharp pains in the kidneys, and nausea and vomiting.
Two to three hours before sleep, abstaining from solid food and drinking a mixture of 1 cup warm raw milk with 4 tablespoons raw cream and 2 tablespoons unheated honey relaxes kidneys during sleep. Drinking a blended mixture of 1?2 cup raw unripe pineapple, 1 tablespoon raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, 3 tablespoons fresh raw lemon juice and 4-6 tablespoons raw coconut cream helps gradually dissolves kidney stones. Or 6-8 tablespoons of fresh raw lemon or lime juice mixed with 6 tablespoons fresh raw beet juice, 2 ounces fresh raw carrot juice and 4-6 tablespoons raw coconut cream 2-3 hours before sleep gradually dissolves kidney stones. Eating at least 1/2 cup of raw fat (for instance, avocado or unsalted raw butter) daily usually prevents large kidney stones.
When stones are being dissolved, there may be some discomfort. Drinking plenty of raw milk to which you have added 4-6 tablespoons raw cream and 2 tablespoons unheated honey per 28 ounces of raw milk, and staying in bed for 1-2 days allows the body to use all of its accessible nutrients and energies for dissolving stones, making the process easier.

From AV: GALLSTONES are deposits of crystallized resins and minerals, the same as kidney stones but combined with bile in the gall bladder.
Along with the suggestions for Kidney Stones, see page 282, eating foods containing a lot of minerals, that is, fresh raw vegetable juices, raw eggs, raw milk (preferably fullfat), raw plain kefir, tomatoes, melons, nosaltadded raw cheeses and fresh raw fish, especially raw oysters and clams with raw fat soothes the condition. Drinking 2 ounces of fresh raw beet juice mixed in other vegetable juices and eaten with nosaltadded raw cheese once daily speeds the process. A raw milk eggnog made by blending 2 raw eggs, 1?2 cup raw milk and 1?4 banana (nutmeg isn’t necessary) works just a little bit slower but sometimes is more soothing.

Thanks for the reply, you're a big help :)

I continued with the apple juice and contacted a naturopath near me. I'll have to wait till Monday to hear from them though.

I've also made some bielers soup and had a bowl of it already. Eating another after i write this.

The lower-right abdominal pain has gone away but my gallbladder area is still sore. Its not like im having an attack, its just quite sore. Im considering taking some more epsom salts to see if that would help any trapped stones pass. Would you recommend that?

Hopefully i can see the naturopath tomorrow and they'll be able to help me some more. Will keep you updated.

Did you try the liver flush, dav? I'm considering doing one myself.

Health / Re: liver/Gallblader needs help, paleo liver flush?

I would bet on fresh organic apples, lots of them.  Or even juice them.  Eat a lot for 2 to 3 days of them.

Then do an egg yolk liver flush as described here:

http://www.curemanual.com/detox-protocols-and-treatments/liver-gall-bladder-flush/edwins-egg-yolk-liver-flushing/

If virgin coconut oil is not for you... use extra virgin olive oil.

And if you want to rebuild your liver, you should be eating raw red meat and raw liver.

Raw clams will also give you the best B12 if raw liver is harder for you to get.

GS, were you having pains before doing the liver flush that were then resolved, or did you just do it as an experiment?

Liver flushes are more intense than peppermint - some people can't tolerate them well - but they work!

How did your first 3 go Joe? Did you reverse gall bladder disease? What was your experience?

Have you had success with them too, Dorothy?

Im exactly the same except 20 years worth instead of 22. None of the herbs tinctures and stuff did anything for me compared to the flushes. I hate using such drastic measures and every single aspect of the liver flush is so unpleasant that I hate to do it but it works well and I think if you are in a lot of pain you should do it. Any damage done would be negligible since your healing time go up whenever your gallbladder becomes more efficient and you will definitly be better than ever.

I'm definitely considering it. I wanted to check with my naturopath first, though.

Do any of you know if gallbladder problems can cause pain on the left side of the body as well? I have pain on both sides on the front under the abdominal area as well as on both sides of my body so I'm curious if I am just having digestive issues from a lack of gut flora to digest raw meat.

Hello all,

The digestive pain I have been experiencing since beginning RP has been identified by my naturopath as gall-bladder pain. It seems that I simply cannot digest all the fats I am eating and/or perhaps I have gallstones. Does anyone have any suggestions to help this?

General Discussion / Re: Antiobiotics during raw paleo?
« on: May 14, 2012, 09:42:47 pm »
This is the same question that I was hoping to get answered. A part of me really doesn't want to take antibiotics for my new tick bite, but I know that lyme can be incredibly destructive if left untreated (I feel it now and remember it when it was worse). I can get an appointment Wednesday with a doc who will likely prescribe me abx so I have to decide quickly.

FZ, antibiotics are only going to cause you to backpeddle. The body should not ever be abused in such a fashion. Obviously it's your body and you can do what you want with it, but antibiotics really shouldn't be viewed as any more of an option that small doses of cyanide. They are not nurturing to the body, that is literally the same as trying to put out a fire by adding gasoline to it.

Your symptoms are likely a form of detox and are trying to heal you, it's a foolhardy endeavor trying to thwart the process.

Instead ask your body how you can nourish it in to balance. Tell us what your diet is like right now so we can make suggestions. Also helps to know your food tolerances and intolerances.

Thanks for your advice. Does anyone else have any suggestions of taking antibiotics on a raw diet?

General Discussion / Re: Too Much Liver in Diet?
« on: May 13, 2012, 01:03:04 pm »
Yes. Every alternate week, that is. I had found raw organic, grassfed liver to be ultra-cheap(2 pounds sterling per kilo) and I knew raw liver was very nutritious so  thought this was a great way to avoid extra costs. Turned out not to work for me, though.

I actually think I thrived on similar amounts at one point. I had no idea about Vitamin A overdose at the time, and I probably ate 1/2 pound a liver every day for three months. I could be wrong in that estimate but I remember buying 7 pounds every two weeks or so.

I don't think it's easy to get vitamin A overdose from eating raw liver too much. Even Stefansson mentioned getting some stomach-problems as a warning after eating polar bear liver, and it's only the livers of Arctic animals which are in any way dangerous.

I once ate far too much raw liver(only eating raw ox liver every 2nd week) for some months, and what eventually happened was that my body refused to absorb any nutrients from it, and I just quickly got diarrhea after eating any liver. Otherwise, I had no symptoms.

Tyler, did you eat only liver every day for an entire week?

This is a really interesting discussion but can someone please help me with my question, "Does everyone think its okay to eat raw while on antibiotics? I'm concerned that maybe the lack of gut flora will lead me to be more open to infections or something."

Fermenter - have you thought about assisting your immune system with things such as mushrooms such as cordyceps, shitake etc. and herbs? There are lots of ways to help your immune system fight.

I've seen rife used with no effect too many times - and I was introduced to it by lyme disease sufferers.

Al - were those cures managed with no other treatment or change in diet? Was the rife the only variable? I'd like to hear more about that.

I'm taking Oil of Oregano now. I'm probably going to start taking Olive Leaf Extract on top of that for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties. I haven't played around much with mushrooms because of suspected Candida. Do you have any recommendations for herbs?

I haven't although I am considering getting one. A friend has one that has cured his and his daughter's cancer as well as a host of other issues, as he uses it for his friends and family. There is a certain amount of knowledge that is necessary to use them effectively.

His unit does it radionically. Essentially it works by putting some DNA from the patient between the two electrodes. DNA could be a hair or fingernail. Simple as that. No connection. The peron does not have to be in the room or the city or the country. Distance does not mean anything. Works on a large amount of diseases.

What make/model is yours? What vintage? Is it a Zapper or a Rife machine? Does it use electricity/sound or light?

There is a whole community of people in the world designing, building and treating with these devices.

Regarding Lyme, there is a lively discussion online about treating it, but my friend seems to think that doing it radionically seems to be the better choice and yet it is not one that is discussed.

That's fascinating. It was a Doug Coil Machine which works with sound and electricity. It is supposed to be one of the most powerful machines from my research. I wish it would have worked. Have you had any health problems solved by this machine?
