Primal Diet / Re: Butter
« on: March 12, 2010, 05:20:14 am »
Just a thought. We had the same issue, so what we did was when we go out to get our raw milk from the farmer that we found at the raw milk site we order a couple of gallons of cream (raw).

Then we put a few cups (never actually measured it) in a cheap food processor we got at Walmart and turn it on for about ten minutes.
I Googled a video on making raw butter and got a few hits. One was a woman making it with a hand operated job from Lehman brothers and another video on a chef doing it with a food processor. My friend uses a blender, another person I know puts 1 pint of cream in a 1 qt jar covers it and shakes it for 10 20 minutes while watching TV.

After about 11 minutes in the food processor it suddenly magically becomes butter, so you stop the blender and after saying wow (necessary) you pour off the buttermilk into a cup (delicious and nutritious) and then you put some cold water maybe even an ice cube or two into the bowl and use a spatula to work the butter a bit. What you are doing is washing the little bubbles of buttermilk that are caught in the butter.
If you don't the butter will turn rancid more quickly. You drain off the liquid and voila butter (unsalted)

If you add salt it will last longer before spoiling and some like the taste, but salt is not a good thing for most people to eat. Then you scrape out the butter into a bottle.

Takes a wee bit of work but man is it delicious! Far better than anything you can buy by a long shot. I don't care what the advertising or website says. You can do this with any cream, even the grocery store stuff as the guy in the video says.

Some claim that the gentler way (manual) of making it results in better butter and I suspect they are correct.
Thanks.

The places where i get raw butter don't even carry salted versions, most places will have either unsalted or  a variety of salted and unsalted in my experience
And where are those places.  Or just the name/URL of one of them. Thanks. :)

Thanks.  I don't see any specifically saying "unsalted".  Does anyone know which company carries an "unsalted" raw butter?  Thanks.

The thing is that AV thinks therefore it is healthy to have a good amount of body fat, as the toxins will store in there and not harm your organs and glands. It makes sense, and in true AV fashion goes against the mainstream grain as most people these days think thin is healthy and fat is unhealthy.

As for what I think, very skinny to me seems unhealthy as does fat. Different people hold different body types, I tend to be thinner, some people thicker, so I think it's an individual thing. I think I can tell from looking at people whether they are too fat or too thin for their body type. Myself, I would not want to go and be fat like AV wants me to because I don't like how it looks. I also probably would not like how it feels, although I've never been fat so I don't know.
I've tried to figure out what's the best way to detox without hurting the body or gaining a bunch of weight.  My body seems to like the raw paleo (without raw dairy), which is a great way to slowly detox the body.  Something to add to quicken the process without colonics or enemas is using EM (effective microorganisms) products.  The combination, raw paleo + EM, may quicken the process.  I however find EM products very energizing, almost too energizing.

I've been looking for his email address.
Can you PM me his email address?

He has it posted on his site, so I don't think he'll mind me putting it here.

I'm a Rami Nagel Fan
I made a review of his new book!

That is so lovely.  I've only communicated with him through email, and found him to be a beautiful human being.

This is Rami Nagel.  He's into raw animal foods.  Great videos I think.  And I like his website too.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Peeling lips

I had chapped lips for a time. They went away - I've been on very low-carb (raw) for a while.
Thanks so much I appreciate hearing that.

Raw organic chicken breast, chopped piece of kale, some expensive olive oil sold in the raw section (it's the only kind that doesn't make me mucousy), some organic mustard, some organic raw ginger.

Thanks for the reply.  It's interesting that that happens to you.  However, for me it's not when I eat carbs so much as when I eat raw.  My raw consists of predominately meat and dark greens.  My cooked version is the same thing but steamed.  It could just be an accelerarated detox happening.

My lips peel continuously when I start eating raw in any way.  I think it's detox of some internal organ that's connected to my lips.
Has anyone experienced this?
Does anyone know why it's happening?
Does anyone have a recommendation as to what might help?
Thanks.

Health / Sugar craving cure?
« on: September 17, 2008, 10:03:05 am »
Hello there,
Does anyone have any suggestions for curing sugar cravings?  I'm very sensitive to sugar.  I eat a raw meat, raw back fat (suet?), and raw liver mix.  I add noma shoyu for taste (if you have any better/healthier suggestions than noma shoyu let me know).  The noma shoyu makes it more pallitable, but I'm afraid the salty flavor of noma shoyu makes me crave a sweet after.  My sweet after has been the a gree Kombucha drink and an orange Lara Bar called cashew cookie.  It's all raw, but I know it's not the best.  Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions.

I know that once I added more raw animal fat into my diet (NOT raw dairy though...) that the way my body reacts to sugars in fruit is different. It's like my body actually USES the sugars, instead of me getting diabetes insipidus.
Thank you for the comment about how adding more raw animal fat into your diet affected how you react to sugars.  I too have found the same thing.

Thanks so much for the wonderful responses.  Also, about the heads up on tallow.  No tallow thank you.  I'll read them closely and probably try them all.

General Discussion / Raw tongue WTF!
« on: September 14, 2008, 12:27:29 pm »
Okay y'all.  I just bought frozen grass fed cow tongue at the farmers market today.  Holy cow! literally.  Okay.  Help me out here.  That tongue is so tough and huge.  My guess is I'm supposed to just cut it into tiny pieces and down it.  Right?  It's wicked intense.  Hard almost sharp.  I'm all about it.  Since I need to get fat in my diet.  The woman's bringing me tallow (whatever the heck that is) and back fat, which she figures is the raw hide stuff I had asked her about, tomorrow.  She's looking for marrow for me but think she's out.  Bummer since I think that's more up my alley.  So back to the tongue.  Any suggestions or personal experiences on how y'all have eaten it.  Thanks.  Anne
