Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: Squat Motivation Thread
« on: December 07, 2010, 06:18:34 am »
it may take longer than today to regain the flexibility and balance to sit in that position, just keep practicing, bounce around a little while you are in the position and shift weight from one foot to the other to add weight emphasis.

Some people hold onto a stationary vertical object and squat down to keep their torso up and get into a good position.

"Sadly, contamination of our oceans and waterways is so great that I don't advise eating ANY fish, whether farm-raised or wild-caught, unless you can verify its purity."

Thoughts?

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: What's toxic, what's not?
« on: November 16, 2010, 05:38:56 am »
Good thread :D

This clears things up pretty well, since mixing can alter the taste of foods and our attraction to them, that pretty much kicks out cacao. Since cacao by itself tastes awful.

From the other thread:
yeah, I would say that something that has known toxic compounds can be safely labeled 'toxic', but not everything that is 'toxic' should necessarily be avoided in all circumstances.

helpful? :)

Does this mean something along the lines of some toxic compounds can actually be beneficial somehow?

Not to go off topic, but I wish we could start a thread or perhaps we already have them on whats toxic, whats not, and why we think so? I have been interested in eating cacao for its magnesium content but have been reading about its toxicity but how exactly do we classify something as toxic?

Look in the comments, it looks like the person who shot the video is the grandson of the founder according to the description.

Man that honey comb looks sooooo goood. I used to love the cappings from "really raw honey" but I figure the source I have now is better quality.

It LOOKS like Honey Pacifica (cold/hand packed honey) uses some smoke to scatter/calm the bees and they use powdered sugar if there is a mite problem (got this off of a comment on youtube). Is this within reason, and still considered a good/safe source?

Really? I didn't know organic applies can still be sprayed. How do they get around that?

i never got that either.  makes sense to me that if anything the body would produce less, but people say they work and then taper off them.

do you think this is a problem for you?

Its been on the back of my mind, and I did a little search on it and it sounds like a lot of other people have made posts on this sort of topic but there hasn't been any talk of resolving or improving it.

Anyone have any more on this raising HCl levels without supplements? I don't understand how adding HCl in pill form would eventually increase stomach acid in a way that we wouldn't need it anymore.

Just came across this video, he talks about the importance of getting organic honey to avoid toxins and GMO's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rddFt_i6pk

Anyone know anything more about this? I am not sure how a bee could be confined to only organic flowers, etc.

I get cold packed honey from honey pacifica and they are not organic--but on the other hand it says "wild flower honey", so in that case would it matter if its from the wildflowers in the hills?

Primal Diet / Re: Raw milk
« on: November 08, 2010, 03:14:58 am »
Claravale has a pretty legit reason as to why they do this imo, cows in nature eat grass and when they would be naturally lactating grass would be full of grain seeds.  Now I'm not too sure on the validity of that but I have had 100% grass fed milk/butter/cheese and OP's stuff, I personally prefer the OP stuff.

Yes thats what I believe both of them have mentioned, I wonder if this would be considered natural diet then?

Our dairy cows are grass / hay fed 100% and there is no taste or quality problems whatsoever. I know what they are fed as we visit the farm to pick up the milk and the others in the cowshare group also go there.

What telephone # did you call and or email address did you use so others can check this out?

Claravale farm I talked to the farmer and wife in person and they mentioned basically thats just how all dairy cows worked from the beginning. The organic pastures e-mail was from their site: (carolina.m@organicpastures.com)

RawZi- I just mean that we all strive to get 100% grass fed in general on this site as a whole. Not sure about their suppliers or corn grass--if anyone has any more info on this that would be good. Where do you get your milk, a private seller?

I saw some more posts on raw milk under the introductory form and instead of cluttering up his thread I decided to post here.

In california there are two main raw milk suppliers, organic pastures, and claravale dairy. I have spoken to the owners in person and in e-mail and they mention feeding their cows something like 5lbs of corn a day. They made it sounds like 100% grass fed milk does not really exist in any quantity for sale, and if it did the taste would be terrible. He goes on to mention certain times of the year when the cows eat more pasture than normal, people complain about the taste of the milk every year.

Not sure if anyone realizes this/cares/or if this is just a farm-by-farm issue, but I found it interesting, being that 100% grass fed meats are highly regarded here.

Alright well I am about 8 hours into the yolk flush now, nothing any different from normal so far, perhaps has something to do with my high egg consumption in the beginning of eating RP. I used to eat 9+ raw eggs a day (although with no citrus and oil) for awhile so I suppose its possible my liver is pretty clean.

Anyway I did 1/2 cup pastured yolks, 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon, 1 tablespoon organic, cold pressed olive oil.

...will continue on for the few days and see how I feel.

I think I am going to give this a run tomorrow morning--anything I should know before hand?

Should one wait a certain amount to of time to eat after drinking the concoction, or can you just eat again once hungry?

Yep, I have the bar lower, on the back of my arms/shoulders

You can squat like that too, its a stronger position but your squats will not be as deep. The higher up the bar is the less torso lean, the lower you can get your butt between your legs.

MMmm I love me some deeeep high bar squats. Really gotta check your ego on these though. My rock bottom high bar squat is probably a minimum of 100lbs off of my wider stance, low bar, just below parallel squat.

Something that should be mentioned with that video is the heeled shoes that help the knees go forwards more. You CAN squat the same way barefoot but it takes awhile to gain the flexibility to be able to keep your heels down in the hole. It's possible though that heeled shoes will always make the bottom position more comfortable and stable though.

General Discussion / Re: Gut bacteria

So I don't quite understand. If say, meat (muscle) has no bacteria present, why do people always say raw meats have "good bacteria"?

Same with raw milk?

Yeah the huge juiced up guys make me pretty sick. Blasting out protein farts every 2 minutes and breathing heavy after walking up a flight of stairs.

I think the best example of naturally muscular physiques are the really really old bodybuilders, back before Arnold and the juice fest, they weren't nearly as big or ripped but I am sure they felt great and lived pretty healthy lives.

Brother- the dude in the second pic looks like he is "on" also, but I am not to judge.

General Discussion / Re: Liver "the filter"? Good to eat?
« on: October 31, 2010, 01:16:39 am »
Thanks for the info guys--the cows all look very happy/healthy and the liver is every bit as good as the previous organic&grass fed liver I used to get at wholefoods, some pieces have a slightly more grass taste.

Hope I am not overdoing the liver, I have been eating roughly 2oz a day
