Info / News Items / Announcements / Re: Meat? Environmentally friendly?
« on: October 14, 2010, 11:14:42 pm »
The worst thing humans ever did to this planet was plow up the grasslands to plant grains and legumes. It has destroyed the topsoil and poluted the water. The result is overpopulation of degenerating sick people eating the crops. Fertile lands have been turned into deserts. We feed the grains to animals which is not their natural diet which makes them sick also. The depleted soil kept in production with pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers gives us sick plants. Our food is no longer healthy.

If we return from grains and legumes to pastures the balance will return as nature intended. We would not be able to sustain this level of world human population, but that would be good for the earth.

Vegetarianism is not environmentally friendly.

very well said! it's hard to understand how the radical environmental vegans miss this... sad. i'm reading 'collapse' by jared diamond right now which covers many historical collapses. it seems like every single one is partly due to deforestation and plowing up grasslands for agriculture: easter island, maya, anasazi, etc

General Discussion / Re: Vitamin D UV Lamp
« on: October 14, 2010, 03:27:20 am »
The vitamin D lamp is part of my effort to remineralise teeth without having to resort to cod liver oil, which some say is toxic - even the "sacred" fermented stuff.

do you have a link for cod liver oil being toxic? i've never tried it but was thinking of getting some blue ice fermented stuff just to try it out. not a good idea? what's the issue with it?

yeah i remember daniel talking about only eating wild meats in that video where he east raw bison. i didn't really think about it too much at the time, but lately i've been eating mostly/all wild venison and grass fed bison and i get it now. today i had some of my usual grassfed beef brisket. it doesn't even compare. hardly any taste compared to wild meats. hopefully i can keep finding sources of wild meats.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / texas persimmon
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:33:27 am »
i took a day trip out to some land that my parents own out in the texas hill country (15 acres). i found out that most of the trees there are actually texas persimmons. ha, we've nearly got an orchard! they are much different than regular persimmons. small black fruits (about 3 cm in diameter). but the taste is similar. i found out the hard way that if the fruit is not really ripe and mushy, it's acts as a laxative... also collected some native prickly pears but haven't gotten around to cutting them up. kind of a pain with all the thorns. anyways, thought it was cool. i didn't know there was so much wild fruit here in the fall.

here's what they look like:

General Discussion / cheap way to get venison
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:24:46 am »
hey guys, i've been getting some great wild deer meat lately. here's how i did it (note: this may only apply to people in the US, not sure how much craigslist is used in other countries, maybe there's an equivalent though).

go to your local craigslist page and post a wanted ad for 'last year's game meat'. in the ad, tell them that you would like to buy some good quality deer or hog meat that a hunter may need to liquidate before this year's hunt. i posted one such ad this year and have already got probably 30 pounds of really good deer backstrap and tenderloin along with 10 pounds of wild boar cutlets. i think i paid around 100 dollars total. works out to around $3.33 a pound. good deal for local wild meat. only draw back is it's been frozen for a little under a year (and i found bullet fragments in one backstrap, so be careful). also, a woman just emailed me today saying she had 100 pounds of deer meat that i could have for only $50! that's 50 cents a pound! im supposed to pick it up tomorrow. pretty excited.

i should mention though that it's illegal to sell game meat in most states (definitely in texas). not illegal to buy it though.most hunters aren't too worried about getting caught, but some are really paranoid and insist that they're giving it to you as a gift. for example, one lady 'sold' me a can of beans for $60 and gave me 25 lbs of venison as a 'gift', ha. but i've also gotten responses to my ad from vegans and authorities who tell me it's illegal to sell. which i already knew, but if someone is willing to sell it to you, then why not?

anyways, thought this might be helpful to someone on here. there are tons of hunters out there who have too much meat before hunting season starts. might as well help them make some space for new meat. also, if your friendly with them they might let you have some of this year's meat when they shoot it.

General Discussion / Re: Bone Marrow's high cost
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:10:37 am »
I prefer simplicity, and thus only having to go to one market

really? i love trying to find new sources of meat, fat, eggs, wild fruit, etc. i don't mind going to lots of places to get a good variety of foods. it'd be too easy to get everything from one place  ;)  i like to try and pretend my shopping is my form of hunting and gathering. gotta put in the effort to get good food. different strokes for different folks i guess

and related to the original post, i love bone marrow. it probably does cost a good amount per pound, but it's worth it in my opinion. probably my favorite raw food. just found a good source of grass fed bison marrow too. interestingly, this marrow is much darker in color and has a different taste (in a good way) than the grass fed beef marrow i can get. and i think it's cheaper. i got four 8 inch long bison bones for $4. i'd say that's a win

dinner: bison tongue, bison marrow, deer meat, raw bone meal. i've also been eating as much connective tissue, cartilage, tendons, and soft bones as i can. i think it could be a big mistake not to in the long term. i have no evidence, but it would make sense that we should eat every part of an animal we can to get total nutrition. there's lots of bits of tendons and stuff attached to the marrow bones i get.

here's one of me a while ago. blurry but the only one i have of me eating raw i think...

anyone know what a lamb thymus or thyroid looks like? i just bought some lamb neck and it had part of an organ in it. it looks a lot like pancreas (pale pinkish and same texture). not sure what it is really. any help appreciated. a picture would be even better!

haha! im honored to have convinced you! it really is way more fun. i also think it's important for developing facial muscles, neck muscles, and strong teeth.

why would you mess with it if it's not causing problems? i wouldn't get the filling. just my 2 cents. i don't think im gonna go to my dentist anymore. what's the point? i would think it's pretty hard to get cavities eating this way...

just found out i can get grass fed veal pancreas at whole foods. pretty cool. it's frozen but whatever. i usually am able to get grass fed beef pancreas from a guy at the farmer's market but he hasn't had any for a while and said he won't get another for a few weeks. the veal pancreas is really expensive from whole foods, but it's nice to know that i can get it (it's $13 a pound!). i think im gonna start eating a little before meals again.

so i didn't realize it at the time, but i lost a LOT of weight while i was sick in the philippines from eating too much fatty cooked pork. when i got back to the US, i weight myself and apparently lost 17 pounds! and im a small person, so that's really significant. my normal weight is 125 lbs and i dropped to 108... disturbing. but have no fear. i've been back for a little over two weeks now and have been eating a ton. feeling really good now. already gained back 6 lbs of solid muscle. and i don't see much of an end in site. my metabolism is kickin. i should be back to my normal weight within a week or two. definitely gonna try and go beyond too.

also, for those interested, the quality of meat i get in the US is drastically better than most of the meat i got in asia. maybe it's just that im used to it, but i doubt it. so much more flavor and i can eat a lot more of the grass fed stuff from the US. GS has got some pretty awesome stuff in the philippines, but my beef makes thailand, vietnam, laos, and cambodia's meat look pretty weak. im kinda puzzled because i heard someone on hear saying aajonus likes thai beef the most. i don't get it. i mean sometimes it's okay but it's nothing compared to texas grass fed beef.

i'm gonna try and post some pics from my trip soon. stay posted
