Off Topic / mussels with opioids?

Not sure what to think about it. If there are that much opioids in those waters, it could also be some smugglers dumping their stash in the water if they though they might get caught... But on the other hand, I have read that the US is nowadays the only place among modern countries where heavy drugs use in increasing, and specifically heroin.
I do know that in Stockholm for instance, a city that prides it self for having good quality tap water safe for drinking, there was some tests confirming a high presence of pharmaceuticals and especially antidepressants. The pee/sewage water is recycled into "safe" water (sounds kind of disgusting actually), which is not that safe.

Something similar has happened to the Chernobyl area, lots of wildlife has come back/taken over.

Off Topic / worms eating plastic
« on: June 01, 2018, 04:26:16 am »
I have tried live wax worms, they are really tasty.
As they have the ability to eat beeswax, maybe that could the reason:
https://www.natureworldnews.com/articles/37569/20170425/bizarre-plastic-eating-wax-worm-might-be-the-answer-to-plastic-pollution.htm

But I would not want to eat some that have just eaten plastic.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / fluorescent bananas
« on: May 20, 2018, 07:55:05 pm »
To those who eat/have eaten unripe fruits. UV sensitive animals can pick the ripe bananas:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/6152638/Bananas-turn-bright-blue-under-ultra-violet-light-helping-animals-pick-ripe-ones.html

I never eat bananas in Europe, they taste boring after haven tried so many different kinds in Asia, and quite often with some seed(s) in them. Local super ripe bananas are amazing.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Now is the right time of the year for ...
« on: April 29, 2018, 03:25:37 am »
... honey bee larvae ! Anyway here in Germany. If you ask a bee keeper, he/she usually get rid of the extra "males" (still larvae), this time of the year if you are lucky,  and you get normally the whole thing with the wax. I chew the whole thing and spit out the wax, were juicy. I heard the russians squeeze out the liquid from the wax.
Btw, they were still alive, so this is really live food.

Off Topic / crazy vegans
« on: February 18, 2018, 02:20:41 am »
In Lierre Keith book "The vegetarian myth" I read that some vegans were discussing in forum that we humans should interfere with  carnivores (animals) eating other animals: a vegan wrote that someone should build a fence in Serengeti (a safari/national park in Kenya) so that the big cats will not kill and eat the wildebeest and zebras. He knew that the carnivore would survive, because  they don't need meat, as he had seen his dog eat grass and so that was the proof that carnivores could live on grass... No one objected, and many agreed that thee've seen their cat doing the same...

When I was a fruitarian, there was this "experienced" fruitarian that many were listening to, and he seriously believed that you could train lions to become vegans by giving them avocados, and many really were believing him.
I was once on a small safari in Tanzania, and I was travelling there with another fruitarian. There were many very strict rules for this national park, it was absolutely not allowed to throw out any food scrapes or anything from the jeep, and absolutely not any seeds from fruits etc, because of fear of invasive plant species disrupting that particular ecosystem. What this guy did, was that he had brought his stash of fruit seeds (yeah, this is a typical fruitarian behaviour, always saving fruit seeds, to later spread them) , and was throwing them out from the window in the safari park, so that in the future we might start to live in a fruitarian paradise...
Many fruitarians have told that they think "normal" trees (read: the one that do not produce any fruits) are boring and should be replaced with fruit trees... They want to convert the whole planet into a huge fruit garden, not caring about nature, wilderness and different ecosystems. There is a reason for this: they are obsessed with fruits from the moment they wake up, I know, I was there...

Off Topic / Incandescent lightbulbs, anyone?
« on: December 16, 2017, 06:25:16 am »
I used only old school types of lightbulbs in my home, as is created less stress and a warmer light than all the other ones.
Led light have a blue light, that is cold and creates stress, and not good at night time, when it's time to sleep. This feels really artificial.
Incandescent light have more red light waves, (plus emit heat), and gives this warm glow that is relaxing.

Btw, what is this forums stand on fire? Many raw foodists are against fire. I feel that sitting next to a fire has a very grounding effect on me, and sometimes help me sleep better...

Hot Topics / Vegans and some of their weird ideas
« on: December 06, 2017, 02:02:49 am »
I remember as vegan and than a fruitarian, there where a lot of strange ideas out there. For instance:
- some vegans avoided organic food as it was probably grown with animal dung, (from enslaved animals etc...), and preferred food grown with chemicals. (Typical for the vegan fear of nature)
- avoiding mushrooms as they are beings from space
- not eating fermented foods, as yeast and bacteria are live beings (but, this is a joke, as there is bacteria naturally on veg/herbs/fruits)
- sexual fluids are not vegan
- feeding cats and dogs vegan food

What's actually interesting is that in many herbs, veg and s c vegan processed foods, there are insects remain, actually more that one might think, like in chocolate and peanut butter (plus some rodent hairs...).

Off Topic / Is it possible to change the food habits of people around you?
« on: November 28, 2017, 07:55:56 am »
My boyfriend is someone feeding on pizzas, cookies, bread and cheese, he a smoker and occasional drinker... He does like meat, and eats mett sometimes, a german breakfast white bread with raw porc, (but I would not eat the meat as it is not pastured or organic and with preservatives). But there's something he loves more than anything else, and it is: pizza: his favorite food... Before I met him, I hadn't had a pizza for 14 years. I had a few weeks where he totally dragged my down in his dirty food habits, but then stopped sharing meals with him...
He is very afraid of germs... and it's very difficult to try to change his mind on things. Somehow I feel we are getting more and more apart, and I miss sharing food with him.
How do you deal with people around you? Sharing food with others, or not?
Somehow I feel I need to hide this raw meat eating, people thinks it's too much somehow... How do you get out of the closet lol?

Health / Cured chocolate addiction with meat
« on: November 06, 2017, 04:57:05 am »
My lifelong addiction has been chocolate, sounds like a joke for some, but for some people chocolate can be really addictive. Been eating it almost every day since I was 5 or 6, and was able only once before to stay away from it for a longer period of time, when I was a fruitarian  and staying in the tropics. But fruitarianism does not work for me in Europe, I freeze and get craving, so ended up eating loads of fruiits AND chocolate...
Meat can give me some sort of bio-chemical bliss/calm that I have not felt otherwise with other food, I think zinc is also what I need. I thought I was allergic to oysters, but I realize that my rashes that I get from eating theim are because of too much minerals and /or overload of copper (chocolate is full of copper). Used to eat a lot of shellfish etc but cant stand them anymore, as for meat , I can manage small amounts of it, as I have been a vegetarian/vegan for such a some time before.  And cooked meat gives me a very heavy feeling in the stomach, so eating raw meat is easier for me that cooked.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Small fruit more "natural"?
« on: October 31, 2017, 07:18:43 pm »
In my travels I had the chance to test  some different kinds of fruits, one that I loved (and never had to buy, because I found loads of ripe fruits lying on the ground, nobody seemed really to care about them) is JUJUBE, in north Thailand, but you can also find in China, Africa... They are light brown, 1-2 cm in diameter, quite sweet with a bit of sour (but not a lot), and you can stuff your pockets with and snack on them... tasty, in my opinion. Another small fruit that is really sour (and sweet) is tamarind, I really enjoy small amounts of it... the small size of these fruits is practical, you eat them like nuts or berries, but they don't turn into a mash as berries and you don't have to shell them as nuts... and unlike a jackfruit for instance, (which is also totally unpractical to carry around, unless it's pre-cut), these small fruits are also not so easy to overeat of, as the taste is more intense and you need less, and ingest far less sugars.

Hot Topics / tenderising meat with KOJI?
« on: October 29, 2017, 11:26:05 pm »
I sometime get some tough pieces of meat, but I read that one can use KOJI, a japanese ferment (mold/yeast?), made to make sake, miso, but it's also used in Japan to tenderise meat and fish... Well, not sure if this is paleo... And, I am not sure if the mold itself is safe to ingest raw. Sure, I plan to scrape off the outer layer when it's done, but there might be some left... I suppose the japanese don't eat the meat raw, anyway, I'll give it a try once my koji ferment arrives. Supposed to be very simple, takes just a few days.
Another thing I was thinking is Gravlax, a swedish/scandinavian technique of marinating fish with dill/herbs/black pepper, some salt and sugar/ honey), making the fish more tender, was thinking if it might work with another fatty fish as well...

Welcoming Committee / Hello there!
« on: October 27, 2017, 04:47:46 pm »
Happy to found this site. Been experimenting since many years with different ways of eating because of health and serious digestive issues: vegetarian in the 90's, then after that vegan for nearly 9 years, then fruitarian, which created a bad sugar addiction and mood swings and weak teeth. Last couple of years been eating cooked food (but nearly no grains) and cooked meat, and dairy, which does not work for me, even raw. Been trying a bit to eat raw meat lately, and wanna do more of it and learn from others, as I know no-one in my hometown who's into this...
Look forward to learn more about it from you guys...:)
