Interesting discussion re biking vs running. Just an observation: I run each morning and I have a hill that I need to run uphil. The same hill I would ride uphill with my bike afetr coming from work. I feel less exhausted when i run it uphill. Maybe it has sth. to do with the fact that I don't ride a lot  ???. But then when we talk about flat surfaces: I could sure ride 5h straight, but running 5h straight is way more exhausting.

I find that I do very well on 60-65 percent of calories from fat but have come to love the taste of fat as I’ve adapted to this diet so often eat more like 80%.  I can do this because in our modern world this level of fat is available.  In the natural wild environment I’d be limited to what is in the animal, but the craving of fat would drive me to find every ounce of fat possible – hence cracking the bones to get at the marrow.

Maybe levels of 50% calories from fat are what we really need, supplemented by a few carbs in the late summer to boost weight for the winter months.  Something to think about…..

Lex

I was just wondering if it would be "safe" so to say to eat a lesser% of fat, as I have been eating about 60-70% (guestimate) for quite some time - now I have read about the higher fat% being supposedely "better" in the long run. So I tried it, sarting eating 70/30 GB only for couple days, but I found that when I eat 70/30 GB my heart starts to race and I feel a rather strong pulsing sensation in my stomach-I wondered if I should simply try eating that high fat a little longer and see if that will change or if I should simply go back eating more lean
Thanks

Lex,
I have a question: I know from hunting experience that mammals as deer, red deer etc. are quite lean, so wouldn't it make sense that our anchestors ate way more lean than say 80% calories from fat? I just find it hard to imagine that they would go for the fat after a kill and leave some of the leaner meats behind?
Thanks

all day everyday lol i love it but I hatee running with music because you can get huge adrenalin/cortisol shots from it lol and after this feel like shit.

But when slow run without music totally relaxed without sweating because of winter and concentrate on the wind passing by your ears its incredible!!

Exactly! you read my mind ;)

Another byproduct of running is increased water consumption. That very well might be keeping you from getting hungry.
i really doubt that is the reason, as I am not drinking more than I did when I ate vegan, when running did make me hungry, whereas now it seems to have the opposite effect.

Yeah i love winter running because the air is so much fresher and more clean! I also run between 04-07am. It's great! Especially when the moon and the snow make the nights pretty light...I love it. And when coming home, frozen and stiff ears - a hot shower is the nicest reward... :)

So did I get it right that you are suggesting that running makes my body use more ketones and hence the loss of hunger? I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with BG as Lex reported in his journal that his BG did fall after a run, but then proobably BG has nothing to do with hunger?
As for the not eating when not hungry: I will try it. That's pretty interesting though, and also exciting, because when I ate a standard mixed and later a vegan diet I became more hungry when I did run and now it is the opposite...
As for the part "it would make sense that you desire less fat" - I actually desire more fat-and hence i did increase the fat% to about 83% or so of calories. But that makes me eat less calories over all (as my portion sizes decreased and i am not feeling hungry anymore)

I am feeling great! But I was worried b/c I haven't been hungry, despite eating less cals. I was wondering if I should even eat when not hungry at all? But I was too afraid about fasting for more than 24h as I still want to continue running in the mornings...

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / loss of hunger
« on: December 16, 2010, 02:39:39 am »
Hey all,
Here is a question for those who ar einto the whole biochemistry thing of ZC: I have been eating RZC for almost a year now and currently have been upping my fat intake to about 80% (from previuously about 70%). thsi is reducing my hunger. Now I run in the mornings-and the thing is this is even exacerbating the effect of feeling no hunger. Now for the last 3 or 4 days I haven't felt any hunger...I still eat one meal per day at night, but even when I eat now I don't feel any huger (when I ate less fat I sort off became hungry during eating).
My calories have been decreasing, b/c I find the fat so filling, so higher amount of calories can possibly not be the reason for being less hungry.
My question would be: what could be the reason for the loss of hunger? And why does running apparantly contribute to this, when in fact it should do the opposite b/c i am expending more energy than I would if I sat around the whole day?
Any thoughts?

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: the importance of exercise
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:04:04 pm »
I don't know: all these theories about how much one should exercise and if that's really necessary, healthy etc...and also the claim that running is not beneficial etc...I just know that i definetely feel way, way better when I do exercise a lot. That is for me the best proof that exercise IS important...

What if someone plays alot basketball, football aerobic activity?
how to determinate how much carbs and when to eat them? protein and fat is a the evening but carbs?
about bone marrow you eat it raw? I rememeber long time ago my grandfather used to boil the bones in water and then almost drink
it from there it was like liquid shit and I never liked it lol you cook it or its raw?

RZC = raw zero carbs right?
Yes raw zero carbs. I also eat this way. I am doing lots of aerobic activity (ultrarunning is my passion). What I have experienced is that I absolutely feel no hunger after my runs, which I always do in the morning, right after getting up. I will eat when I come home from work at night. There are no blood sugar swings throughout the day, just a feeling of total calmness and a very relaxed mind (but no tiredness, very high energy). The best thing however eating RZC is that ow I never "hit the wall" during runs anymore-sure I get tired during very long runs, but it's a graduall decline of energy-not these "crashes" that I got when eating vegan.
cheers Nicole

VFFs don't fit my foot either. My big toe is crammed against the front while there is a 1/2 inch space on my smaller toes.
Hey steak ;-)
I have been running for some time in VFFs and the same "problem"-they stretch out though so after running in them for a while your big toe should fit in them perfectly-at least thats in my case now (I don't mind that theres bit of too much space for the smaller toes)

Cow meat does not contain parasites harmful to humans, if any. Pork may contain parasites because pigs dig in the earth and eat anything and everything. Cows just eat grass and leghumes.

Not too many people eat raw pork.

I eat lots of raw pork-never had any issues. The meat that is sold is so well inspected for parasites, that chances are very very very...small you will die from Trichinosis etc...

ya this is my mentality to it too, but my broader aproach to life now is what would johnny caveman do in situation x. He would eat organs, the fat with bits of muscle meat (says my insticnt). organs are necesary, jsut many people find they are gross ike, and taste bad. fuck em, organs are awesome

I actually love organs so much that I kind of need to watch out not to eat too many of them but also some muscle meat...really. Some weeks I ate like >50%organs. Especially in the beginning of my ZC adventure. But now I eat more with "instinct" if you would call it like that. I eat what I feel like. For example couple days ago: I felt like I wanted kidneys. So I took beef kidney out of the freezer and when I started eating them (of course let it thaw first) it was strange as I would only go for the fat. didn't eat much of the lean parts of them, only the kidney fat. I wonder what was in it that my body needed at that time?

please tell us how that works out for you. i haven't encountered anyone who has eaten raw lung before, but am interested to try it. thanks
I do eat raw lungs: from both beef and lamb. Tasted nices, but I grind it as it is kind of a hassle to chew it (it has a texture similar to chicken skin)

Try eating warrior diet style. Katelyn does that and in fact that worked best for me when I tried rzc.

That's working best for me too.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Are you a ZCer?
« on: October 25, 2010, 02:35:53 pm »
Exactly--the frequent debates caused by the combination of all that confusion and dissension over ZC plus the fact that no one is truly zero carb makes the term worthy of burying so that there will be less discussion about it. I think the reason the term survives is that it's convenient to write just two letters, but if we could get alternative acronyms going, like RC (raw carnivore), RPC (raw pure carnivore), and RM (raw meat) I think there's a chance that would eventually improve both understanding and harmony.

I know I found some of the extreme dogmatism there offputting.
Thanks for the input, Nicole.
You are welcome,
well for me it's realy only a term...a name...I learned about being a carnivore with the term ZC and I actually never thought that would include only muscle meat and fat...
I found the dogatisme very offputting-so I went away, especially after all my favorite members left anyway  ;)

Thanks Nicole, I always enjoyed talking to you! Most people on ZIOH are not successful because they eat too often, eat poor quality meat and don't exercise.
Thanks!
Well I don't know what the % of people is on ZIOH that are sucessful or not but I think you are saying basically the right things: eating too often, not exercising, poor qualitity food-that's probably not a good approach to eating carnivore ;-)

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Are you a ZCer?

Guys,
Sorry I don't want to be mean (really) but I think these types of discussions (what is ZC, with or without organs etc) are kind of tiresome. I eat only animal foods (meat, fat, eggs, organs) and have never felt better in my life. Also I think it would be rather nice not to judge or (for Katelyn) to look at ZIOH with a sense of anger. I found their behavior on ZIOH towards katelyn REALLY BAD and CHILDISH!!!!! I am not taking part in discussions on ZIOH because they seem rather childish and superficial (like fighting over who has a harder job raising kids, woman or men....) also because I hate the anti-exercise atmosphere overe there and I love to exercise....(oh sorry didn't intend to write all this)
What I wanted to say is: I am glad that I was part of ZIOH, b/c that's were I met katelyn and she was one of the main drivers for me to have my meal at night - and both ZC and WD is, what is working best for my body and mind!
So why the talk how you define ZC? Is it really important?

I am proudly a lifelong ZCer. I love it, it works, it makes me lean, it makes me strong, it makes me energetic and healthy.

ZC rocks!

No need to say more!!!

« on: October 21, 2010, 03:11:40 pm »
OK. As a separate issue, do you carry a pair of flip-flops with you to go in to buildings? Have you ever been denied access to somewhere for not wearing shoes?
Yep in supermarkets - because of "hygiene"...ridiculus...
well I have started running barefoot a while ago and i LOVE it! I never get injured anymore - I used to have knee problems, but they quickly went away! I have been walking barefoot before that and once after I started running in FF's and then also barefoot my posture greatly improved-by itself. it is aazing how the body naturally responds to the surface!
The other day I was wearing hiking boots - it is getting winter now here and we made a day hike throught the forests and well I thought I would need shoes -my legs did hurt so much after this! I swear my legs and feet feel way better with no shoes / minimal shoewear!
