General Discussion / cream as fat
« on: December 16, 2011, 01:00:18 pm »
I wasnt able to get any fat from the butcher this visit. I Have lots of raw dairy but I'm running out of butter. I just have cream and milk now. Would either of these be a good fat replacement to have with my meat or not? Is it necessary to have fat with my meat or do I just need to have fat during the day? I don't see cream tasting good with meat even if it is a viable fat replacement.

What do people think about the constant washing of the hands? Is it good or just another useless byproduct of bacteria neurosis?

Off Topic / Safe tattoo ink
« on: December 15, 2011, 02:09:52 am »
Iv had a few tattoos and only too late did I realize how toxic the inks I had injected into me are. Im wondering if anyone knows of any safe inks on the market. Im thinking of just making a traditional ink out of burnt wood mixed with some vegetable oil or vodka for my next tattoo. How does this sound to you guys?

General Discussion / Night cramp
« on: December 10, 2011, 02:39:24 am »
I woke up today to a pretty bad leg cramp for the first time in my life. I ate my first wild hare yesterday which may be related. I also heard it may indicate a lack of potassium or b12 and b6. Does anybody know anything about this?

General Discussion / wild hare
« on: December 09, 2011, 11:36:14 am »
I just got some wild scottish hare and it has a very strong smell and taste. Much more so than any other meat I've had. I wouldn't necessarily call it bad but it may simply have too much flavor for me since it is a wild animal. Is this unusual or am I simply not used to it?

General Discussion / too much honey
« on: December 08, 2011, 02:14:41 pm »
Lately I've been eating up to a half pound of raw honey per day. I feel as though it is doing some pretty good healing so i just take a lot. I was just wondering if that's too much honey or not. I dont feel any negative symptoms from it like when i eat too much fruit but it still seems like it might be too much.

General Discussion / honey heating
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:10:59 pm »
I was at a farmers market and a farmer there told me that honey always has to be somewhat heated in order to get it into the jar. I was under the impression that totally raw and truly unheated honey does exist and is what is preferrable. What is going on here?

General Discussion / grain fed eggs
« on: November 28, 2011, 12:24:19 am »
Is it alright to eat eggs from chickens that were fed grain. I have a source where the chickens are fed organic mixed grains along with eating grass bugs and random fruit all day in the field. Is this a quality source of eggs or should not even birds be eating grains?

General Discussion / safe coconut oil?
« on: November 26, 2011, 09:55:52 am »
I just got some cold pressed virgin coconut and I went to the website to try and find out the temperatures it was pressed at and came up with this.

"What heat level is your organic coconut oil exposed to during the extraction process?

In humid countries, the sun-drying of oilseeds with a high moisture content, such as mature coconut, is slow and inefficient (e.g., copra). Such conditions promote mold growth, which could result in high free fatty acid levels and poor quality oils. To prevent this, the coconut "meat" is quickly hot air dried (70-80 degrees C), then mechanically crushed and pressed without the use of excessive heat, solvents, or chemical refining. This natural process retains the fresh aroma, taste and qualities of real coconut. "

What I want to know is if the hot air being 70-80 degrees Celsius means that the product itself reached such temperatures or that simply the air around it was that temperature. (for example if you set your oven to 400 degrees whatever you put in there won't actually reach that high of a temperature.) Do you think this coconut oil is safe to eat until I can get my hands on some animal fats?

General Discussion / fat alternatives
« on: November 24, 2011, 03:33:57 am »
Eeryone is really busy this thanksgiving and I won't be able to get my hands on some fat till next week. What should I replace it with in the meanwhile if anything? I've been eating some raw cheese so far to replace but wondering what others thoughts are. Coconut oil? Avocadoes?

Health / detox
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:22:33 am »
I am confused about the whole issue of detox. I hear that for the first year or so of raw paleo, people usually have intermittent bouts of detox. I usually have several days where I feel better than I ever have before interspersed with a day or two sometimes of what many describe as detox. What I want to know is why should I think these symptoms are a sign of something good rather than bad? Shouldnt vomiting and such because of your diet indicate that you are doing something wrong? If not that, then what other thing would possibly indicate that what I was doing is wrong? It seems to me a bit counter intuitive to not take the signals my body gives in the natural instinctual way of "this is making me feel sick, I shouldnt do it anymore". I feel like I am going against my body somewhat when I label my illness just detox rather than a signal of pain from my body indicating to me that I should cease said painful actions.

In other words, what is the proof that this indicates healing rather than indicating me poisoning myself, which would be the standard reaction?

Health / leg pain
« on: November 09, 2011, 01:49:54 pm »
Iv had a leg pain for a while now that seems to have gotten a bit better with a couple months of raw meat and fat. I think its either from a an old skateboarding injury or possibly relating to circulation. Any suggestions for physical healing in an issue such as this?

I was thinking about putting the effort into getting some raw collostrum but I want to ehar what you guys have to say about taht or other options before i go ahead with that.

Also I havent had it checked out by a doctor yet as i reserve that for the death bed. I will have to exhaust everything else before i go that route.

Health / overeating?
« on: November 07, 2011, 05:56:34 am »
yesterday i had 2 pounds of wild boar and about a half pound of beef suet and a bit under a quarter pound of beef liver. I followed that up a bit later with some sauerkraut and half pound of figs. This was all around 10 oclock. I was pretty full and that was the most ive ever eaten. Then i woke up around 230 am feeling sick and i threw up a little bit but kept most of everything down. Then i got the runs a few times when i woke up later, feeling a bit sick the rest of the day. I should also add that the morning i ate the meal i was having a slight headache that went away later on and that when i woke up, my hip which iv been having issues with for a while but has been slowly improving felt a lot worse in terms of inflammation than it has in a while when i woke up. Iv only been doing this diet for a month and a half or so and im wondering if people think this is from overeating, detox, or something else. Apart from the initial transition into this diet, I have been feeling pretty great and this is the first real incident.
