I don't get it, how can bananas have norepinephrine, dopamine, etc., aren't these animal hormones?

I'd go on foods that are easy to digest: fruits (max 1 at a time), egg yolks, and fish.

Whether it's one or a billion animals doesn't make any difference.. I mean they will all individually suffer the same.
It's nice to do yes, since we can control this now. But it's still kinda pointless. I know I wouldn't care whether I suffer for a few seconds or not just before I die.

So what's the big deal if this stunning is not done? The animal will anyway die.
And as is common to say on this board: paleo people wouldn't do any stunning.

I'm not planning on this, but just curious if people here think the risks of cooking outweigh the risks of bacterial infection.
Measurements have always shown similar (and usually more) bacteria in organic grass-fed meat..

General Discussion / Re: Loren Cordain on AGE contents in foods

Does that mean processed cooked rice,  lite Italian salad dressing,  puffed wheat, white Italian bread, sugar, aspartame, coke, coffee, and dinner roll are good for health as they produce few AGE?
They don't produce, they contain little AGE products.
Does that make them healthier? There are millions of other factors besides AGE products, you have to take it all into account. I don't think the current science can tell you if they are better or worse, until we discover every little molecule, nutrient, hormone, and put it all down in a model that is extremely close to reality.

The paper above has info on coconut cream and milk.

I'm not sure how's it VERY different regarding the eggs:

"Egg, scrambled, pan, med-low, olive oil, 2 min" (paper) = "Scrambled eggs (med. low heat)" (your table) = 97

This has a lot more foods covered, and is the source of Loren Cordain I think:

I read an article on Hyperkalemia and how its related with diabetes. All diabetics have hyperlipidemia(high blood fat). Do you think the reason why these 30 bananas folks can eat so many bananas is because their diet is low in fat?
I think it's because they seem to usually be very active (increased requirements for potassium) and healthy (no kidney problems, diabetes, etc), so then the body is perfectly able to maintain normal levels of potassium.

What do you mean by too many? A lot at once, or just in general a lot of bananas daily?
There are the 30 bananas a day folks who eat huge amounts of bananas every day, but I haven't heard of anyone ending up on this ICU.

It's detoxified by sulfur compounds in the body like the cystine/cysteine amino acids, but the body stores of these get depleted fast if you eat some more of it.

Wow B17.. this is what's written on wikipedia about it:
Quote
Since the early 1950s, a modified form of amygdalin has been promoted under the names laetrile and "Vitamin B17" as a cancer cure. In reality, neither amygdalin nor any derivative such as laetrile is in any sense a vitamin.[3] Studies have found such compounds to be dangerously toxic as well as being clinically ineffective in the treatment of cancer. Taken by mouth they are potentially lethal because certain enzymes (in particular, glucosidases that occur in the gut and in various kinds of seeds, edible or inedible) act on them to produce cyanide.[4][5][6][7][8] The promotion of laetrile to treat cancer has been described in the medical literature as a canonical example of quackery,[9][10][11] and as "the slickest, most sophisticated, and certainly the most remunerative [ profitable ] cancer quack promotion in medical history."[3]
The Jews (they are known as Jewish seeds when boiled like that to death) or my grandmother wouldn't have boiled them for nine times, each time changing the water if this stuff was any good to be eaten straight as it is.

Different types of apricots have different seeds.
Usually seeds from domesticated trees are not bitter at all and very edible.
Seeds from smaller, wilder apricots on the other hand are very bitter; I remember my grandmother was boiling them nine times until all the antinutrient/toxic stuff comes out and they become edible.

General Discussion / Re: Salmon in the UK

The scientists don't seem to have had the intelligence to check whether the SFAs/PUFAs etc. were actually healthy.
I agree, but until they do some research on this I don't think we can say farmed fish is incredibly unhealthy because it's not fed its natural diet.

Thanks for the links. So all studies seem to be about how farmed salmon is bad because of pollution, not because it's fed grains/fish meal?

Why is it a problem if it's fed on grains or fish pellets?
In the end as I can see farmed and wild have essentially the same nutritional composition (unless you consider the little bit more Omega 6 in farmed a significant difference).

So you haven't been diagnosed as diabetic, but you believe you are, right?
How much were these big BG spikes, have you measured?
Shouldn't you blame your BG spikes on your eating habits, rather than on the carbs? If you eat a lot of carbs (especially fast digesting ones) at once you'll get BG spikes no matter if you're diabetic or not.

Ray Peat is most likely against probiotic stuff, he thinks bacteria in the gut release endotoxins and other stuff which has bad effect on the estrogen balance.

About the carbs claim, again, this seems like Danny's own interpretation (or let's see a reference of Ray Peat saying you need X grams of carbs per day).

I don't think Peat has recommended any particular amount of carbs (I know that he recommends low/moderate amounts of protein though). What Danny has written is his own interpretation I guess. Why is the amount of carbs of such a huge importance to you, are you diabetic?

General Discussion / Re: Kosher version of diet?
« on: April 13, 2012, 05:39:01 am »
The white stuff you're seeing in your salmon and ground beef when you heat it is serum albumen. It's a component of blood, which is still present in meat even if it has been largely "bled" after slaughter. It sets up and congeals like that when it's exposed to heat.
Good to know, although I don't get it why it doesn't happen with normal meat or fresh, non-packed/frozen salmon.

I put wild-caught salmon in the oven once, and a bunch of white crap showed all over inside the salmon, which wasn't visible when raw. I guess they put some starch filler or just some flour.
I've noticed the same with all ground beef, even the local grass-fed one: I put it in the oven at lower temp and after some time this crap starts coming out of the meat.
So now I stick to fresh farmed salmon, and non-ground meat. You may want to check your salmon like this.
