General Discussion / Shelf Life of Bone Marrow?
« on: August 17, 2012, 12:53:52 pm »
Does anyone know the shelf life of bone marrow in the refrigerator? I just defrosted it in the Fridge on Saturday, and I'm just getting around to it. I heard somewhere that it has a tendency to go rancid quickly. But, then I also heard that it can keep for a number of weeks. So I come to you, my fellow RP brothers and sisters. And I ask you: What is the truth? How long does it keep? When do you know when it has gone bad?

General Discussion / Raw Beef Tendons
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:26:56 am »
I just picked up some beef tendons recently for the first time. I noticed when I was cutting it up, that it was very greasy/oily. Is this normal? It definitely has a distinct odor to it, that's for sure. Anybody with any experience with these?

General Discussion / What is Your Definitions of the RPD?
« on: August 06, 2012, 06:32:33 am »
There is such vagueness on the definition of being Raw Paleo on this site. I'm asking you, each and every member on this forum here, to give me your opinion on what the RPD is to you?

We have people, and I find out moderators that still cook foods. I'm curious, what makes these people think they are Raw Paleo's? Just because you eat a little bit of your food raw, does that make you raw paleo (in your eyes)? Does eating 50% of your food raw, makes you a raw paleo? 60%, 70%, ect? I'm sure you all know, there is a cooked version of the Paleo Diet? If your in transition, what is your ultimate goal with this diet? How far are you willing to take it? I mean, this is not the anything goes diet (I'll just follow my own set of rules, and call myself RP)? This is suppose to be the Raw version of the Paleo Diet. Am I right, or am I wrong to assume that?  The RFD is a diet that is based on the principle of eating RAW meat, fruits, vegetables, and fats in their natural uncooked state, am I right?

When you (members) have followed a diet in the past. Do you follow it to a tee? Or do you just make up your own rules as you go along? I'm curious to how many of you are following the TRUE Raw Paleo Diet out there? Or are you one of the members, who incorporate partial/variation of the RFD for yourself? But, associate yourself as Raw Paleo?

It just sounds like there is a lot of confusion on this site, when it come to the RFD on this Forum. We have people that post, that still eat cooked foods. But, for some reason think they are Raw Paleo? This is not a Test people! This is a Poll of your opinions/definitions of the RFD. Please be honest.

Where do you (members) categorize yourself in this diet, and at what percentages are you RAW?
1. Omnivore
2. Carnivore
3. Wai
4. Instincto

Suggestion Box / Isn't this a RPD Only Forum?
« on: July 30, 2012, 03:00:19 pm »
This is just my two cents. But, there are too many people who aren't 100% raw on this website/forum. I don't get it! It should be a 100% "Raw Paleo" diet forum. If your not 100% raw, you should be on a different forum IMO. I get it that people are curious, but if your not ready and disciplined enough to go the Raw Paleo way, then they add nothing to this forum. There's too many people that want their hands held, and want all the answers to all that ails them! I don't think we need to play nurturers, or Dr. Phil with people. The RPD is NOT a CURE ALL people!! It's a lifestyle! You have to apply it people, if you expect the changes you desire.

Hot Topics / Blue Hill Bay Pickled Herring
« on: July 26, 2012, 02:37:06 am »
Have You guy's heard of the a product put out by Blue Hill Bay? It's a pickled herring product that is cured with vinegar, or a combination of vinegar and wine. I found them at Whole Foods in the section of the smoked fish products. My question: Is this product considered "raw"? The package doesn't say it has been smoked. I'm assuming, or I thought it was a raw product cured in Vinegar/wine spices. Anyone familiar with this product or brand? What are your thoughts?

Hot Topics / Dried Herbs! Friend or Foe?
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:21:15 pm »
What's the viewpoint on dried herbs (seasonings)? Not exactly a "raw" food. I guess if your a traditionalist, you would have to say no way. I came from a variation of the Ayurvedic diet, before I became a Raw Paleo. So it took me a while, to shake the dried herb habit. I actually don't miss them at all anymore, or have a craving for them to be quite honest. I wasn't masking the flavor of the raw meat, at all. I have alway's preferred meat/ fish, to be cooked very rare. So the transition to an all "raw" diet wasn't hard for me at all. I was mostly using the herbs for their medicinal qualities (digestion, ect). I was curious to what you guy's/gal's thought regarding the subject?

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Milk Raised Veal Liver
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:05:37 am »
I was looking for your opinions or suggestions regarding 100% milk raised veal liver (non-organic). My local store currently carries it. Here's the catch, the mother's of the calf's were not pasture fed. The effect of the Milk was my #1 concern. I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger on this veal liver for now. I thought I'd ask you guy's/gal's first, and get your feedback, before I do anything.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Vegetable Oils
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:57:35 pm »
How do you guy's and Gal's feel about adding plant based oils to meats to increase fat content? Examples: extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, extra virgin coconut oil, or any of the virgin nut oils. I'm currently using organic grass fed ghee, and organic duck fat ( from pasture raised of course). Granted these are not "raw", so I guess they would be frowned upon on this forum. I'm trying to get additional idea's on "fat's" an what's out there that is currently used and acceptable in this diet. I can get raw butter when it's available. I love that stuff! I don't have current access to just fat from grass fed animals (my local store's don't carry them), unless I order it online. Whole foods has stopped carrying organ meats, and I never see tongue, marrow, ect., available. Also, are grass fed fats much more preferable, than the plant based fat's listed above? Thanks!
