General Discussion / Fish guts
« on: December 24, 2009, 11:38:57 am »
I just got some wild whitings for what I think is a fair price $4(usa)/lb. I asked the butcher to just scale my fish & save the guts & head. Which he found shocking but I assured him it was for my dog.

I know it's typical for most customers to discard this. Is it because of hazard issues or just cause of the look & taste? My question is, can I eat the guts/organs or is there a certain type of organ that I should avoid?

It also seems to make sense that the frequency of sex would be greatly reduced during paleo times as being constantly pregnant would not really make much evolutionary sense.

Wasn't infant death a huge problem? So would constantly impregnating females be ideal since it'll raise the odds of giving birth to a healthy baby?

If you felt great, why would you switch? What a troll. lol.

What about eggshells, aren't they full of calcium & phosphorus? It's typically recommended for small dogs.

What about for shaving cream?

I tried switching razors, I tried just water. It only worked on some parts of my face, but cuts me up bad on other spots. My sister suggested yogurt. Not sure if I'm really down for that though.

I only wash my hands when I have visible dirt. I only use soap if I came out of the gym or oil/chemicals from work.

I post frequently on GiveItToMeRaw.com. There is a Raw Paleo sub fourm which hasn't been active in months. There are a few raw meat & animal product enthusiast there though. Also I know there is another community called RawFu.com. I'm not sure if meat discussion is approved. Nowhere on the site does it say no.

Well since you're airing your business. How old are you, if you don't mind? WWW.findaspring.com can help with the water issue. I think you should just do what your parents say for now. Until you save enough to be out on your own.

I don't want to know about his personal life. I get annoyed when he post stupid videos or when his wife flames everyone who's not on high fruit diets(on other message boards). I wish their members post some blood results. I'd like to see that.

That guy is a Durian Rider is a anti-animal meat & product advocate. I'm not to familiar with his work but I have bumped into some of his video's & writings on other forums. Seems like he's all about an 80-10-10 diet.

He ridicules everyone that doesn't share the same idea as him. Even those that share a relatively close idea to his. Raw vegan,Cooked vegan, vegetarian & those that attempted his diet but failed.

I personally see him as a huge joke & someone with denial of anger, jealous issues & with a superiority complex. His followers as well, all have anger issues.

He makes silly claims all the time. Like food is free & everyone(must be nice if you live in those type of areas), Points out rotten road kill(he doesn't realize there are people that will eat that. I doubt he would even attempt to eat a rotten fruit), Claims to travel the world on his bike & live off of only 10k US a year. I'm highly skeptic of that, he must have sponsors & freebies handed to him.

Guittarman, have you notice any neck strain/pain along with the rotator cuff pain?

Just wondering cause I constantly get neck cramps. Doing arm circles(like in 1st grade gym class) seems to alleviate the pain very quick. I'm wondering if the same holds true for the opposite?

Exactly Phil, They didn't mention anything of war tactics or easy traveling to the consumption of raw meat. I'm guessing they were trying to paint a villainous picture(Even though they were already ruthless)

My Grassfed-beef sources caved in. Now they're only really sell very lean cuts & even the ground beef is 85-90%lean. I normally get chucks or shanks cause they have the most visible fat. seems like everytime I go they ran out, but has tons of chuck stew meat.

I don't think it's cutting it though. I'm getting ridiculous cravings for junk food I never ate even before RVAF (oreos, peanut butter/chocolate candy bars, french fries, cooked hamburgers). For the longest I thought my cravings were cause of a mineral deficiency. So I used raw cocoa beans to ward off the chocolate cravings. It helped with the chocolate cravings but now I'm craving fatty junk foods like twix & reeses pieces.

I think I'm lacking fat(like another poster suggested). So here is my strategy. I'm thinking of getting pricier cuts conventional beef (which comes out to the same price as the grass fed beef I normally buy $6-8/lb) with more visible fat, trying raw pork, egg yolks & maybe butter(I always loved the taste of butter & never had a problem with dairy except for to much raw milk)

My only reason for going with this strategy is because I might be moving soon(finished inspection on a house I bid, waiting for bank to accept my re-bid) So I really don't want to order anything online until I'm settled in as far as housing goes. (I'm pushing the bank to close ASAP)

I've recently added lamb & beef liver. The lamb was delicious. Had a very soft buttery taste to it. I will be including some weekly. I was never a liver fan. I threw it in a blender with 6 eggs & 1 strawberry. It tasted great. My goal is to just be able to tolerate the taste of liver with nothing else. Might try it tomorrow.

General Discussion / Atilla the hun
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:41:47 pm »
Was watching a show on History channel about Atilla the Hun. They mention how raw meat is undigestable to humans & must be cooked because of it's strong muscle fibers. I found this statement very odd. Coming from such an informative station.
One specialist said that's why The Huns put their meat under the saddles. Because the long rides mixed with the horses salty sweat preserved, flavored & cooked the meat. I'm guessing they didn't want to mention raw meat consumption out of liability purpose.

Hi guys,

I've been on 811 low-fat-high-carb raw vegan for a month and dropped the ball today because the craving to eat meat (or whatever the underlying reason for the craving was...perhaps fat or higher levels of protein) was too strong.
Well, your body knows what it wants/needs. The 811 fanatics would probably say,"you weren't doing it right."

Anyway, I want these dark circles to go away, to regain some strength (I've become really skinny this past month), and get to health.
Meat should definitely help.

One question I have is on eating raw meat. Is the idea for the most part that 'raw' paleo is the best way to go?
Most members found through trial & error that this was the only way they recovered from their previous diets

Quote
If I do eat it, what's the way to go to not get food poisoned? From a butcher or can I still get it from a decent supermarket?
Well like you have already experience. You can get sick from any kind of food. Most popular forum sites are full of idiots & robots that don't question or challenge anything they were ever told or learned to do their own research. I would suggest reading into the Hygiene hypothesis to help you make a better conscious decision.

P.S. is soymilk and soy protein powder okay?
Soy is crap IMO. It's almost always GMO if not organic & has to be highly process if you want to eat it. I don't think it's even possible to eat in it's raw state. Has to be fermented at minimum.

He gets the scraps after I'm done with it. I'm thinking since it was a new meat he was suspicious. I haven't given him the bones yet though. Also the meat came out the freezer & was pretty bland(no game taste, tasted like very lean bison) Maybe it smelled to plain for him lol.

Dogs don't prey on bears in the wild, for obvious reasons, so maybe bear meat doesn't smell like prey meat to dogs? Possible, makes common sense.

Well I ate it. It was pretty bland with a little sweet note to it. I'm guessing keeping it in the freezer was what took away some of the gamey taste. I handed some to my dog & he looked at me dumbfounded. He didn't eat it. I was surprise cause he eats anything.

So I got my bear meat(ground) I have it thawing out on my counter top & it would probably be ready to eat sometime tonite. The meat juice is very dark & rich red. Not sure if it's meat juice or blood. I'm getting hungry just staring at it. I asked my (now ex) GF's Mom if she had any extra bear fat. Told her I wanted it for my dog. She gave me some bones but said the butcher grounded all the bear meat.
