About to try my first bite of Raw Grassfed Beef Liver...

Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Reminds me of scallops a little.  The flavor is hard to describe besides saying that it is Different.  I'm chasing the liver down with some grassfed hamburger.

Just finished my liver, I'd say 1/4 pound.  My reward... Some fresh tasty grassfed hamburger :)

I'll eat some more liver tomorrow.

SOO MUCH HONEY.  I've eaten a lot of honey recently,  probably 4lbs in a week and a half.  I can tell I've gained some body fat...  I feel less then optimal with all my carb bingeing.  I am thinking I might go VLC for a while and see how I feel.  If it feels good then I am going to try RZC.  Because all these carbs from all this fruits that didn't even exist in the wild, and the copious amounts of honey I ate, can't be good for me.

General Discussion / Re: Grassfed Hamburger in Fridge Smells Bad?

I decided against eating it.  It just smelled so bad today.  I am thawing out some grassfed beef for tomorrow.  Maybe after I become more accustomed to this WOE I won't mind smelly meat, but for now, I don't think I can handle it.

General Discussion / Grassfed Hamburger in Fridge Smells Bad?

Hey guys, I bought some grassfed hamburger meat from a co-op store on Friday last week.  I think the animal was killed on Wednesday last week.  I stored it in a glass container uncovered in my fridge.  Tonight when I opened the fridge there was a bad smell.  I found the smell to be coming from the hamburger.  Should I still eat it?

Yes I do believe for me right now a willingness to compromise is a good thing.  Went out to breakfast with some friends after a night of drinking mead and wine.  A practice I am seriously considering giving up permanently.  At breakfast I ordered steak and eggs.  So I ate rare steak, over-easy eggs and some bacon.  Not too bad a cheat meal I think.

Eventually I want to be to the point where I feel comfortable telling people that raw foods is my WOE (way of eating) and that I don't feel the need to compromise my diet to be social.  That is an evolutionary step that I am not quite to yet with some people.  My immediate family knows about me eating raw and that is it.

One step at a time, one day at a time.

Hey Amris,

I hope you are feeling better and you're pain is somewhat diminished.  If you are comfortable with raw eggs, they would be a good way to get protein and fat into you're system, especially if you are having a tuff time with raw meat.  Might I suggest trying some cooked very rare steak?  Also for fats if you don't have access to animal fats like back fat, you can order some from Slankers website.  In the mean time maybe try olive oil?  Eat what you can raw but just try and eat healthy.  I really hope the pain in your mouth/teeth goes away.  CitrusHigh has some good advice try what you can of it.

Good Luck  :)

As far as I can tell nothing has changed.  I might have a little more fat around my midsection but that is it.  Before the 1.5 pounds of raw honey I ate over the past 2 days, I usually ate between 0-2 tablespoons of raw honey a day plus some fruit to go with meat and fat.  I was constipated the last 5 days before the honey.  It did help me go to the bathroom, maybe thats why I craved it so much?  Maybe I was just craving sugar or carbs?  Anyway, I'm going to lay off the honey for a couple days and then see if I can get back to just eating 0-2 tablespoons for a day.

I've always been a big sweet eater (cookies, brownies, ice cream, candy-bars, gummy-worms, Dr. Pepper, everything in the candy isle).  And when I was going off diet last month and the month before I would eat a lot of sweets.  So I am happy I stayed all raw while gorging myself on sugar.  I know 1.5 pounds of honey is not optimal but I am not going to beat myself up for it.  I can only move forward.

I ate about 1.5 pounds of honey in the last 2 days.  I will observe my body for the effect.

Hey Max,

In lieu of searching for fluoride-free toothpaste you could try using organic, aluminum-free baking soda. It is less expensive and more accessible in most cases.

Thank you for the suggestion Juzeza, I may have to try that.  I did pick up a fluoride-free toothpaste already though.  I don't put much on the toothbrush because the flavor is overpowering.

I found when I started out that raw bone marrow and raw backfat have really enjoyable flavors.  I also find them to be good healing foods.  I am such a carb addict, but I consider it a win if I stick to raw and don't binge on SAD foods.  In the beginning of the diet I think it is about compromise and sticking to the best option you can handle at the moment.

I read something on the forum about how everyone has to 'pay their dues' when they go raw.  I think thats true.  I've certainly had many relapses into SAD.  Plus you have to define what works for you, and that is an ever-changing definition.

Stick with it my friend, and I hope you feel better.

Thanks for the advice Amris, I think I will eat the rest of my ground beef today.  It doesn't taste bad to me and I didn't get any negative reactions last night eating it.  I did see Sully's video where he talked about chewability and the dried meat is definitely more chewable.  My ground meat isn't high meat because it has been exposed to the air in my fridge the whole time.  I will probably start eating high meat in a few months after I've figured out my WOE a little more.

Thank you for the encouragement.

Told my dad and his girlfriend that I was eating raw foods.  I was visiting them this weekend and I packed my own food.  They were surprisingly cool with it.  I don't think they really approve, but they didn't tell me not to do it.  They just said be careful.

I bought some grassfed ground beef from a Co-op store some miles away.  I got 8lbs on friday last week.  It is in my fridge uncovered and I've probably eaten 2/3 of it.  The top has dried out now and I am not eating the really dry parts.  How long do you think it is ok for me to keep eating it?

I ordered from slankers, and am currently eating some of their back fat.  It is pretty good.  I don't think I ate enough fat the last couple weeks, so I am really enjoying it and it gave me a great energy boost.

I know the slankers website says limit 2 packs of back fat or whatever, but call them up they might let you have more.  Just tell them how many pounds of back fat you want and see if they will give it to you.

So today I am doing a Raw Animal Food only day (ZC).  I decided I wanted the throw in a zero carb day every once and a while because I hear it promotes increased testosterone.  And I'm going swimming tomorrow and this will 'thin me out a bit' I think.  I know it is impossible to consume zero carbs because carbs exist in small amounts in muscle meat, but I am using the term for convenience.

I started the day with 7 egg yolks, I hear the biotin in egg yolks is very healing for the digestive system, so I have been eating a lot lately.  Then I will probably consume a little under 2lbs of grassfed meat throughout the rest of the day.

Tomorrow will be 90 degrees and sunny, and I'm going swimming.  I just hope the snapping turtle in my parents pond leaves me alone.

Thank for the response Tyler.

I was wondering as well what some zero carbers on this forum think of salt?

Hello again msaurondon,

I am very sorry if my post offended you or upset you in any way.  That was not my intent and I am sorry.  I was just trying to help by pointing out that soy is not good for you.  I understand you are in a state of transition, and I understand that it is your body and you are in charge of what you eat.  Don't write off this forum just yet.  There are a lot of helpful people on here and a lot of really good information.

I wish you the best of luck in the continued evolution of your diet and health.

What achillezzz is trying to say so nicely is Soy is terrible for you!  It is not paleo and you shouldn't eat it.  Search this site and the internet long enough and you will learn about the health consequences of Soy.  For your health stop eating it in any form.

Interesting.  Do you think one can get all the minerals and whatever other 'essential stuff' that salt has from raw grassfed beef and organs? (no blood)

Hey Brad,

I am relatively new to raw paleo as well.  My advice is to get fresh grassfed meat if you can because the taste is so much better than meat that has been frozen.  That said I have used Slankers and I really like their marrow bones.  (although they are the only marrow bones I ever had)

I wasn't at my house when my order arrived so I called my roommate and had him put 70lbs of meat including heart, liver, tongue, kidney, back-fat, suet, and marrow bones into my freezer.  I think my roommates think I am a serial killer or something because of my organ meats and knives.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Salt, Do you eat it? How much?

I was wondering who eats salt and who doesn't, and how much you each eat?  Also is there anyone who hasn't eaten salt for years and had no bad effects?

I try and not be on the computer for a couple hours before I go to bed.  I have no trouble falling asleep usually, it is just getting up in the morning that is difficult.  I am going to try to condition myself to get up and out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off.  I will do this by practicing getting up when my alarm goes off in the daytime while I am awake.  If I do this enough I think that my body's conditioned response will be to get up as soon as my alarm goes off.

I will say I did get good results from the raw bone marrow that I put on.  Next time I think I will try aloe.

I don't know what kind of meat you are getting but I highly suggest getting the best quality possible.  What I mean by that is fresh grassfed beef.  I will also say the mental barrier of eating raw meat takes time to get across.  Maybe you only eat a few bites the first day.  Maybe you gag.  But if you continue to eat this way you will get used to it.  I was gaging on raw sashimi grade yellowfin tuna in march this year.  That was my first raw meat ever.  Now, just this weekend (not 3 months later) I found myself enjoying the taste of fresh grassfed beef.  (And now of course I find many raw seafoods appetizing)  Find a meat (high quality) that works for you and take it one day at a time.

So I ate really good this weekend.  1 pound of sashimi grade blue marlin.  Nearly a pound of sashimi grade yellowfin tuna.  A half pound of sea scallops.  A little over 2lbs of fresh grassfed hamburger,  a bunch of egg yolks from a farm, plus watermelon, cucumbers, and apples.  The raw seafood was a tasty but costly addition to my diet.  Oh well.

Side note, I actually like the taste of the raw fresh grassfed hamburger.  I never had not frozen grassfed beef before and it is sooooo much better than anything that has been frozen.  It actually tastes really good!!!  I didn't think I would enjoy the taste of raw beef so soon, but it is so good.  I need to get more fresh more often.  The problem is the drive to the store where I get all the items takes a lot of gas.  Plus it is more expensive in the store than when I buy in bulk (a side of beef) from the farm.  I might make it a once a week trip.

My diet has been spot on this last week.  A lot of grassfed beef, raw egg yolks (from a farm), and around 100grams of carbs per day from, apples, peaches, cucumber, watermelon, and raw honey.  I think it might be that I ate a lot of SAD food the weekend before and my body was recuperating.  Also it might just be a bad habit (sleeping in) that I need to break from.

Try this, it may as well help: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/04/how-to-get-up-right-away-when-your-alarm-goes-off/
It has worked quite well for me, even with just a few "trainings".

I'm going to give the idea in this link a try.
