I do that too. Do you suffer from anxiety? I think that might be the root cause.

Look into mineral waters. Gerolsteiner and Apolinaris brands contain plenty of Mg and Ca.

Medication has its place in the management of ADD; you gotta consider the trade-offs.

I have ADD and it is definitely real. Whether or not it's curable via diet or lifestyle changes is another question. I've self medicated with caffeine and nicotine and obviously that's not the answer. I've also taken prescription stimulants (Adderall), which turned me into a completely different person - crazy productivity and focus, optimism, lots of ENERGY, etc. I did end up completely burnt out after a few weeks on Adderall, so I stopped taking it. Adderall might be a short term solution, but be aware that it is addictive and you build up tolerance to it rather quickly; it can also produce insomnia and poor appetite, meaning raw paleo eating becomes very challenging.

I can't say yet if RPD relieves any of the attention deficit symptoms. I have a feeling that the health of the digestive system is crucial to proper cognitive functioning. The Fiber Menace and Gut And Psychology Diet are good books on the subject. Also, check out the articles by Ray Peat.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Strange side-effect of eating lamb
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:48:30 am »
Thanks for the encouraging replies. I was a bit concerned since I didn't notice this phenomenon with any other foods. I stick with lamb for the most part because it's the most easily obtainable grass-fed meat for me.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Strange side-effect of eating lamb
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:52:40 pm »
My urine smells like lamb(!) when I consume 200-300 grams of lamb meat every day. Anybody else notice this? Is this a sign of a problem?

General Discussion / Re: Dealing with low appetite
« on: March 27, 2011, 10:22:51 am »
I'm just not eating enough, I feel weakened. I could happily eat some fatty cooked meat right now, but can't face more than a few bites of raw.

Do you think I don't have enough enzymes or something?

Any help with troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated. It seems like it's my biggest sticking point with raw paleo. Low carb is not even a problem now, and I don't mind the taste of most things it's just that I can't eat enough raw meat and fat to sustain me. I just get a major stop signal after very little raw meat and fat.

I don't think it's in my head, although willing to be proved wrong.

I've tried eating egg yolks, I could eat them all day, but it doesn't really help anything.

Sounds familiar and I'm convinced it's an entirely mental thing. You do not have a low appetite, just no appetite for raw meat. This is the result of FORCING yourself to eat only raw. You're not crazy about the taste of raw meat and your appetite decreases since you've adopted the idea that you MUST eat only raw. Try eating cooked meats and introduce raw meat gradually. Trying raw seafood and other types of meat may be a solution. I find that high quality salmon and fresh goat meat taste much better raw then cooked.

When I became comfortable with the idea of raw eating (while still eating cooked meat) I was very curious about trying it and had a huge appetite for raw meat! When I made raw meat compulsory I ran into the same problem as you.

All those traits you mentioned above are vagina magnets.

I would consider an Alpha female to be model looks, feminine, nice and not too intelligent. None of what you listed above.

I think you're talking about a hot girl who navigates the world via her looks and vagina?  Alpha females are usually attractive in an average (not supermodel) kind of way. I disagree with you about intelligence - stupidity is not an option for highly functional individuals. They're feminine and outwardly nice although they have the reputation for being bitchy and uncaring. This is a result of them having a very conscious mind and huge personal power. Average men and women find this intimating, hence the "bitch" reputation. The truth is, an alpha female has a huge capacity to love and care, but she won't give that to just anyone - it has to be deserved. Since there aren't many deserving individuals around, the alpha female finds herself lonely despite having many friends and admirers.

Have you read The Fountain by Ayn Rand? My description above pretty much sums up the characters of Dominique Francone. Such women exist.

I sense a lot of insecurity in this thread. Success with women is not the only measure of an alpha-male. A very good looking guy with average intelligence and ok social skills can get most women in bed and possess none of qualities of an alpha-male. From my observations, alpha-males (and females) do exist and have a bunch of uncommon qualities. They're fiercely independent and highly adaptable to new situations - they have no problems with abandoning comfort zones, relationships, and outdated frames of references. They have balls, intelligence, great intuition. They're not afraid to hurt others' feelings and don't seek approval. Social, financial, sexual successes are automatic results of their mindset. In other words, they don't necessarily try to get wealth, sex, or recognition, but good things come to them anyway as they're ALWAYS open to new experiences and opportunities. Dominance of social situations is the inevitable outcome of who they are. They do not display the kind of insecurity shown by people who actively try to get attention. They do not try to prove anything. They have little or no prejudice. Oftentimes, I think, alpha humans are pretty lonely as there are very few people around who operate on the same psychological level...so the opportunities for meaningful relationships and real intimacy are slim to none.

Health / Re: Depression
« on: March 16, 2011, 08:18:17 am »
Untamed life and the truth one sound interesting. My life is about getting to the truth no matter how much pain and denial I have to go through. That's how I became a RPDer and an Intactivist for Genital Integrity of Males and Females. I just wanna heal myself just like Patricia Robinette , victim of Female genital cutting and depression and anxiety from the trauma whereas FGM was common in the US prior to 1997 where she became an intactivist for genital integrity of males and females and dedicated her life to healing and EFT and became a raw vegan(sucks maybe she'll join raw paleo one day). She made the book Rape of Innocence on male and female genital cutting in the US and healing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/187841111X/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1878411047&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1GW5GQMYCQD9SQ36TPWF

I guess dedicating my life to health, healing, wholeness, intactivism, activism, finding the truth, foreskin restoration, and etc really improves my life but I will always have anxiety disorder(bad especially socially) and chronic depression disorder from the cutting trauma at birth, but hope to see it improve via low carb paleo, getting rid of food sensitives, and reading books like you recommended me, more therapy, and healing. Hope this info helps the OP too.

I've learned that are no such things as ALWAYS or NEVER. I had a limiting mindset when I was young and also thought: "I could never do that, I could never be that." Bullshit! I have become and have done things that I have never dreamed of as a kid! I am writing this in my own thread on depression, so my work is not done (is it ever?) but at this point in life I have proven to myself that I don't have to settle for any personal or circumstantial limitations. Anything can be overcome. Techydude, I hope that in time you can leave your limiting mindset behind and get well on the way to reaching the goals.

Techydude, there's something I want to recommend in terms of self-help resources. I've read all sorts of self-help literature over several years. So far only two pieces stood out:

1) http://www.untamedlife.com
Many of the author's ideas are hard to take, but he's right on the money. Very paleo too :)

2) http://www.amazon.com/Radical-Honesty-Transform-Telling-Truth/dp/0440507545
This book's only downfall is that much of it is presented with a new age "feel"...otherwise its pretty solid.

I'm asking because alpha women do indeed appear to be unhappy a lot of times, but that's because they face their problems instead of living in a fantasy world. They have the balls and the drive to overcome any problem and get out of any slump so they can be happy. I have observed this a few times.

Thanks for the article Techydude. I'm going to read it and rub it in the faces of my circumcised friends who argue that the foreskin serves no function and removing it has all sorts of benefits.  -d  Luckily I grew up in a place where circumsition was not a common practice.

oh my god....

my uncle was telling me that the various regions across the tokyo area and north are having to go through periods of intentional blackouts by taking turns due to lack of electricity. looks like they won't have running water soon either...

This was a fact of daily life (and for many years) when I was growing up. And no heat in the winter. Very inconvenient, but not life threatening to most.

General Discussion / Re: Where do you guys get fish roe?
« on: March 11, 2011, 11:42:20 am »
Wildcaught salted salmon roe is not hard to come by (Eastern European food markets) and is way too salty and expensive! The sushi type roe sold at my local Asian market has additives and is also expensive. Fresh cod roe can be found at fish markets, but I found the taste too strong to be eaten in more than tiny amounts. I think the only good source is from the salmon or sturgeon that you catch yourself :)

Anyone know any sellers that vacuum seal their meat in a bunch of blood then?

Most cuts of meat that are sealed in plastic contain lots of thick red liquid that has a strong mineral taste. I am not sure that's blood however. Can anyone elaborate? Shoprite supermarkets in my area sell pork blood, but consuming that is probably a bad idea as it's pork and is factory farmed.

A brief update on my situation...

I've made a number of lifestyle changes which reduced my stress level significantly. Also, I've been eating mostly raw and somewhat low-carb. Sleep is slowly improving. Anxiety is nearly gone but the depression comes and goes. At any rate, there are improvements on both fronts. I have to agree with previous poster about the role of diet in curing depression. I think diet plays a significant but a small role. Other things like setting and pursuing goals, having an active social life, being productive are the decisive factors.

Health / Re: Depression

I would suggest a law carb diet, but not zero-carb (maybe about 40 grams?) - I personally suffered from aggravated depression / lack of energy during my 6 months zero-carb experiment. The symptoms pretty much disappeared when I added 1 to 2 fruits a day. On the other hand, upping carbs higher produced symptoms of anxiety / sugar drops - and subsequent depression, again. Maybe, 1 to 2 fruits a day would be an ideal amount of carbs to keep blood sugar levels stable which would help with hypoglycemia-induced depression?

Another thing which was already mentioned is "high meat". However, I do not make my own high meat since I find the smell really disgusting and revolting and cannot put it in my mouth. My alternative to high meat is century eggs (those are black aged raw duck eggs that you can find really cheap in any Asian market). I strive to eat several of those eggs a week. I chop them, deep in Tamari and eat as an appetizer. Just don't smell them, or you won't be able to eat them! The taste is actually pretty tolerable. Another alternative to high meat is really aged, "smelly" raw milk cheeses - a delicacy! I eat quite a lot of those (just don't do it in an office!  ;D).

Hopefully this is helpful.

FoxWoman

Thanks for your reply, FoxWoman. I do not think that century eggs from the supermarket are a similar product to high meat. I have eaten lots of those eggs without any observable effects. It is my understanding that nowadays the century eggs are made using an accelerated aging techniques and are not a true fermented product.

I do not want to steer the thread away from it's topic, but:

1) What kind of vegetation exists in a frozen wasteland?
2) What exactly is LC? Exclusion of fruits, grains, and tubers?

Journals / Re: my so called journal

Just met with what will probably be my faculty adviser. He just decided last week he wants to write a grant proposal to test this diet called "nutritarian" vs. the traditional care for very sick cardiac patients at UMDNJ.

My goal as I see it now is to do a good job with that and slowly introduce to him paleolithic and maybe raw diet ideas so that I can steer his next project, or my thesis project, towards something closer to what I believe in. Any ideas?

In particular he seems convinced studies like this haven't really been done yet, clinical at least, there have been statistical studies done on populations like the China thing.

If you guys could help me find old studies or anything that I could learn about to help steer this lab towards my ideas that would be much appreciated.

I live in the area. I'll gladly be a test subject, if your ideas come to fruition!
