Instincto / Anopsology / Re: What do raw paleo children prefer?
« on: March 16, 2011, 03:15:28 pm »
If you stuck a nice fatty piece of meat in front of a child raised raw paleo and some tasty fruit what would your child rather eat?

The children I have seen at château Montramé in France all gorged on super-sweet tropical fruits AND raw animal foods. The point is that most of them showed dental decay and their mothers were more or less puzzled.

Today I think that instincto is just an attempt to verify your own sugar addiction with pseudo scientific methods. As far as I can see high amounts of sweet fruit always lead to health problems no matter how much we crave sugar or not.

"a new study argues that humans did not master fire until about 400,000 years ago" [instead of the 1.8-1.9 million years ago that Wrangham claims]

400.000 years? That's still quite a long time, isn't it?

400.000 div 20 = 20.000 generations

Anyway, it's more or less all speculation. The only thing for sure is that we know nothing.

I just googled Owsley and it said he was an LSD cook on basically every webpage. Is this true or vegan bull sh!t?

I think it's true because he mentioned it on his own webpage.

I really need to get onto doing those essays for rawpaleodiet.com. At the moment, it's not good enough re attracting new members.

Please don't forget explicit warnings against all meat from any grain fed animal in your papers!

It's the most crucial point, IMO.

Greetings from Portugal

You privy to his accident?

No sorry, I don't know any details.

If I hear "accident" I'm always very interested...

My BM's are best on a carnivore diet. Fiber tends to constipate me.

Hi Rawcarni,

what is the protein/fat-ratio of your food round about?

Did you need a "transition time" regarding bowel movements after switching to ZC?

I still would like to find out why raw ZC didn't work for me so far...

dang cars.

We could now talk about "accidents". In my view "accidents" and "coincidences" don't exist. An accident is always a result of brain disfunction. It's most interesting to find causes of brain disfunction. In my case I know that grains and grain fed meats cause faulty thinking, anxiety, accidents etc. Bad karma foods lead to bad lifes.

But most people get angry if I express my views about this topic. Nobody wants to admit that every accident is caused by yourself... So I stop here.

I can't stand the chalky taste, gritty feeling I get from eating it and always after I have a headache or stomach ache. Should I stop eating it because it has soo many nutrients...

Give it to the cows.

My teeth always felt blunt after eating spinach. Why do we eat such rubbsih? It's the vitamin - blabla brainwashing?

I eat coconuts as my main plant food. Once I got adapted to its laxitive effect, it can really work wonders. I eat about half a coconut a day now

Do you eat the hard white meat of mature coconuts?

I have no problems with self made coconut milk and coconut cream, but if I eat the hard flesh I always get massive digestive discomfort. I think my system can't handle the extreme hard fiber. It always causes bloating and yellowish runny burning stools if I eat more than a little bit.

Hot Topics / Re: Raw meat combined with cooked vegetables/starches

I attempted raw meat with cooked non-starch veg (it was onion) and it did not work at all!
So could raw meat with cooked starch work better?
Phil

Protein PLUS sugar (in any form) is always a very bad combination, IMO.

A recipe for indigestion, bloating, gas, smelliness...

Raw meat + cooked starchless vegetables seems to agree with my system quite well. Nevertheless I usually never eat vegetables because I always feel weak, tired and sluggish after eating such rubbish.

Take it from a former vegan, vegetables are nutritionally inferior and the body will slowly deteriorate as a result of consuming too much vegetation and seeds/nuts and too little meat and other animal products.

I wholeheartedly agree.

My own experience proved this. Especially plant fats are really bad. The only exception seems to be coconut fat. Today I'm even very skeptical about avocadoes.

Health / Re: Raw Lamb Fat Cleanse?
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:21:00 am »
Interesting, thank you.  You mention that MCFAs are more easily handled (than the long-chain fatty acids in animal fats).  Would butter then, with its many shorter-chain fatty acids such as butyric acid be more easily handled as well?  Or cream?

In my view, yes, butter is easier to digest than beef suet or lamb fat.

Nevertheless I avoid all dairy like the plague...

It seems unnecessary to cook fat in order to make this... if you needed something for a trip you could just bring dried meat and regular fat with you, that way nothing would have to be cooked. Right?

But the fat begins to stink after some days, doesn't it?

You must remove all the water from the fat which requires that you render it at a temperature above the boiling point of water.  I render about 300 lbs of fat per year and I keep my final highest temperature around 240F (115C).  This is high enough to remove the water in a resonable time but low enough that the fat doesn't burn.
Lex

Hi Lex,

do you see any differences regarding digestion between eating cooked (rendered) beef fat and 100% raw beef fat (suet)? Or any other differences?

I can remember that stool diameter was much bigger when I was eating cooked animal fats several year ago. On a 100% raw vlc diet stool is smaller and I still wonder sometimes if this can be "correct".

OTT...

Not at all.

Ten years ago I would have laughed about my today's recommendations. I was convinced that organic is wonderful and a little grain is ok.

I have learned my lessons the hard way. Not all grain finished meat is inherently so bad that it causes diseases. But IT IS possible. Du to my own experiences I would never tell a newcomer that he can eat raw grain fed beef thoughtlessly.

Thanks for the replies.

There are some other butcher's in oxford I could ask, but I'm not sure the meat will be organic.

Organic doesn't say anything. Organic grains are as bad as non-organic grains. 100% grass feeding does the trick.

That is the duration that I expect for it, 2-3 days.  How much fat did you consume?  Was it all raw, was any cooked?  Did you take anything else, such as supplements, water with lemon, etc??

I don't remember how much fat it was exactly. It was all raw, zero cooked. Beside fat and water, nothing else. No supplements, no lemon etc.

Today I can say it was a silly idea. I have learned that my gi tract always needs protein PLUS fat. The desired ratio can vary from person to person but mono eating super lean meat or nearly 100% fat is not useful.

If you want to do a "fat cleanse" (which might be as questionable as "fruit cleanses") I would do it with coconut milk or oil as described by GoodSamaritan. MCFAs can be handled more easily without protein.

Display Your Culinary Creations / Re: yellow bone marrow
« on: March 08, 2011, 09:01:39 pm »
I purchased some bone marrow today. Some of it is extremely bright yellow and liquidy. Is this alright to eat? Have you guys seen bone marrow this colour before? I've put normal bone marrow on the right to compare. I hope it's not from a sick animal. I've posted some pictures...
Thanks

From which animal came this bone marrow? Was it beef?

I have never seen such a yellow bone marrow from beef so far. I would try to find out more about the source. Very yellow color CAN be a sign of disease as farmers and butchers told me many times.

The rest of my time I am in Oxford (actually just outside), which is where I am now. I checked with what I considered would be my best bet, a butcher's selling mostly organic meat. They told me the cows are grassfed in the summer, but in the winter, i.e. now, they are fed on grains.
What do you think of this? Give me some advice please.
Thanks,
Sam

I wouldn't touch this meat.
It is easy to get high quality meat in the UK.

Hot Topics / Re: College food problems
« on: March 08, 2011, 08:46:24 pm »
So I'm going to college next year and just visited campus to check it out. Their meals were surprisingly paleo friendly but other than raw fruit there is no raw food I can eat. No fridge/freezer and no stores to get raw grass-fed beef or even regular beef for that matter. Anyone have any advice? I'm not even 100% raw but I feel like this is going to be a major turn backwards in terms of health.

Sorry, I can't give you really helpful advices (other than to buy a fridge and order some generous amounts of grass fed meat). The social aspect of living truely healthy can sometimes be a little bit challenging especially at your age because young people can be apparently healthy on 100% junk food.

To be honest I would cancel the idea to go to a college... the whole society and most of the ideas there are based on sugary junk food and meat from diseased animals. Nobody realizes the far reaching adverse impact of bad foods on our brain and behaviour. I wished I had the knowledge about health and a raw paleo diet when I was 18. I would have gone directly to farming business without all the useless bullshit I have learned while stying at a university and eating pasta.
