Most of us here just eat raw animal foods privately in our homes, and post anonymously on internet message boards. We really have no idea what it's like to publicly promote raw animal foods and fight against health authorities. We have no right to judge people like Aajonus or Michael Schmidt as being paranoid.

All of this trouble seems to emerge around raw milk.

Nobody needs raw milk. It's just a drug. And it's makes you BIG as fast as no other food or drug. Taste, addiction and the desire to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger are the only reasons why people become crazy about milk.

Even in USA you can eat raw meat everywehere WITHOUT any problem. Furthermore you get 100% grass-fed meat nearly everywhere.

Nothing.
Bloating occures when I eat too much of them, e.g. 3 pounds of apples in one meal. But that's not unusual, as I know lots of people who are eating rather high-carb and cannot eat too much of them too.

Your digestion seems to be very robust. hehe.

I guess that you usually eat fruits BEFORE fatty meat meals, right?

If I eat fruit in amounts you mentioned AFTER meat I always get extreme gas in my GI tract.

Not everyone who eats carbs avoids carb intolerance of any kind, and I am one who has repeatedly reported to you that that was not the case for me. I had problems with carbs for many years before I tried ZC/VLC.

If problems with carbs only occurred after going low carb, why would carb lovers like me do low carb diets at all?

As far as I can see most low carbers become fruit intolerant after a while.

In my case I have the feeling that high amounts of fats simply make me carb intolerant. On a high fat diet I get huge blood sugar spikes after eating fruits. I don't know if this is a bad thing at all. But I know that I don't get blood sugar spikes even after 10 bananas while I'm following a low fat diet.

Does anybody know more of the longterm effects of blood sugar spikes after eating?

Hannibal, I guess that you get huge spikes after every fruit meal as well.

The way I see it, if one is not doing RVLC for long periods, one is eating enough raw carbs for one to avoid carb-intolerance of any kind. At any rate, if I eat some raw carbs every 1-4 days, I have no issues whatsoever.

But eating "some raw carbs every 1-4 days" exactly sounds like VLC to me.

So you are eating more than 50g of carbs from fruit averagely on every day (to be beyond VLC)?

General Discussion / Re: Why I don't buy meat from NZ
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:54:03 am »
The NZFSA (New Zealand Food Safety Authority) has guaranteed me in a e-mail that the meat exported from NZ is not irradiated. It would be very odd that they do that in a country strongly opposed to the nuclear industry. I never had any problem with it, except once.

What kind of problem did you have with NZ Lamb?

I have seen an video from one of the biggest meat exporters of New Zealand. They proudly presented their hyper-modern slaughterhouses which are completely computer-controlled. Most of the work is done by extremely fast roboters. This was one of the most disgusting videos I have ever seen. Its reason enough for me to stop buying meat from NZ. Furthermore they showed their irradiation machines in this video. Every meat is irradiated for "food safety".

General Discussion / Re: NZ LAMB = DISASTER?
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:10:48 am »
Yes, hunting... otherwise you can sometimes find NZ lamb in supermarkets and horse meat from Argentina. I've eaten a lot of the first but didn't try the second kind yet. Louna and another instincto friend have eaten this horse meat and it seems alright - I hope it's not "grain finished". A friend of mine has started to stockbreed sheep, he currently got 270 of them but most were born somewhere else. If you come around I might be able to find some meat for you, but not sure.

Thank you very much! I would like to visit you next time (I will fly back to Germany at the end of this week)

NZ LAMB is disastrous, IMO. I have tried it very often during the last years as it is available in EVERY supermarket in Germany and it's cheap. But something is very wrong with it. Ask me why... I really don't know the reason. Anyway I always feel very bad mentally after eating NZ lamb. It's very similar with bad grain fed supermarket meat. Nearly all meat from NZ is irradiated. They use chemicals on their grasslands, etc...

Your paranoia makes you think that grainfed meat makes you paranoid.

Paranoia is a thought process and a state of mind, it's all in your head. It's not caused by any food.

Your brain is ALWAYS strongly affected by all kinds of food you eat...

Drink a six-pack of beer. Does it change your state of mind?

Löwenherz

733
hey lowenherz you can always go hunting!

Of course, you are right! Wild meat is really now problem here, near the Pyrénées...

Löwenherz

734
Even if he were paranoid, blaming it on grain fed meat and milk just shows a lack of fundamental knowledge on how the human body works.

Grain fed meat makes me paranoid. ;-)

But I understand, how can you know how MY body works?

General Discussion / Re: Candida

If you have candida symptoms, and then you eat a certain way for example rawZC, and no longer notice

What kind of symptoms do you have?

Generally, I think that high fruit in combination with high plant fats could be a cause of candida. I'm not sure regarding fruit + animals fat, btw. Fructose malabsorption is also very often involved in candida. In such cases undigested fructose ends up in the colon and feeds fungi...

100% grass fed beef is unavailable as well in France... except sometimes from Orkos.

Hi Iguana,

I'm afraid that you are right...

I'm currently travelling through Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales, talked to several farmers, even organic etc. and so far: Nothing.

I give up.

Greetings from Prades!

Primal Diet / Re: Carbs in the a.m.
« on: February 16, 2011, 05:34:40 am »
Aajonus mentioned at a recent talk that carbs shouldn't be eaten until 6 hours after getting up, at which point all the glycogen has been made for the day from pyruvate.  I'm not sure why this is important - and why glycogen made from glucose isn't ok - does anyone have an answer for that?  Also, he recommends a coffee substitute in his book made with hot water, 2-5tbs honey, and 1/2 lemon +/- vanilla extract, and since most people drink coffee in the a.m., I'm wondering how this squares with the first recommendation and would be interested in any thoughts about this.

From my own experience, YES, Aajonus is right.

I never eat fruit before 11 or 12 am any more. Otherwise I feel cold and sluggish.

738
Well, Dr Mercola may "only" be 85 percent raw, but he does come across as way more credible to the public than Aajonus. Perhaps he should write a RVAF diet book or something.

I have heard some interviews with Aajonus recently. First, I have to say that I really respect him. He had a great influence on me. And many things he claims are true as I found out years after reading his books. For example the different effects of red and white meat.

BUT I have the feeling that he is paranoid today. He is constantly talking about battles against some enemies and threats everywhere etc. It must be the MILK, IMO. Or grain-fed meat...

That's why it's a huge difference between 40 g of carbs and 80 g, for example. That's why, I think, it's generally better to eat more than 50 g of them.

Very interesting. And you never get any symptoms after eating >> 50 grams carbs from fruit while on a high animal fat diet? No bloating? No rapid heart beat? No blood sugar issues? Nothing?

General Discussion / Re: bison vs beef - omega 3 ratio
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:28:38 pm »
As far as I can tell 100% grass-fed http://www.google.com/search?q=omega+3+to+6+ratio+bison&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a bison seem to have a 4:1 omega6:3 ratio while beef has 2:1 & lamb has 2:1 or better. I find this surprising since pretty much everywhere you go people say 1:1 or 2:1 is what man evolved on as paleo and bison would be the most paleo out of all those three animals no?

Would you still eat bison rather then beef?

Grass fed bison is absolutely perfect!

As far as I know even the ratio of 4:1 is very good. Anyway, don't worry about such theories. As long as your meat comes from wild or grass fed animals everything is fine.

Some people say that supermarket meat is better cooked than raw, because the bad bacteria are killed.

This could be a wise decision. I will never touch any supermarket meat any more. I got seriously ill from it in the past. But if I had to eat such meat again I would cook it. The bad bacteria in meat from sick animals can be much more dangerous than some toxins from cooking.

I'd like to add that many people promote parasitic infection as a means of healing, could be bogus, but there it is!
For myself I just don't worry about it, when in doubt... garlic or coconut oil.

The truth regarding parasites lies somewhere in the middle, IMO.

I've eaten a plethora of meat from that kind of sheep and cows. And they are not given any deworming drugs whatsover. The meat has never been inspected.
It's from my friend Abdul, the Muslim.
He said that in Azerbaijan, where he comes from, people have eaten lots of raw dried meat from the sheep and goats and never experienced any problems.

Not having problems doesn't mean that they don't get tapeworms from such meat.

Tapeworms from cows and sheep are usually harmless. Tapeworms from wild boar are said to be potentially very dangerous.

You are right: Wild carnivorous animals have a lot of parasites. But wild ruminants don't...

I fart when I eat the wrong foods or generally too much.
Recently I ate couple of pears and started to fart quite a lot. I ate them after the one-year brake.
Farting a little from time to time is good. Only too much of it, combined with some stomach disorders is bad.

Hi Hannibal,

if I remember correctly you eat a lot of fatty meat like lamb etc.

How much fruit do yo eat? Do you eat fruit every day? Any other plant food beside fruit?

I'm curios... most people on high animal fat diets get fruit intolerant after a while.

I like all sorts of nuts. I eat never more than 150g but that's enough to satisfy me.

Do you eat nuts mono? Or do you mix them with dried fruits? Sometimes digestive troubles arise from a lack of salt and therefore from a lack of gastric acid. Do you eat pure salt or drink seawater?

But maybe your body needs other stuff more than nuts at the moment. I would try different kinds of nuts from time to time and observe if the needs change.

Yes, I usually eat nuts mono (if I eat nuts at all). Somehow I can't digest the fats in nuts. Coconut cream, animal fats and olive oil are ok...

General Discussion / Nuts?
« on: February 12, 2011, 02:12:09 am »
Yes, you are right, they are very lean animals, no significant back or kidney fat. ...

Geoff Bond mentions in his books that tribesman in the bush eat nuts as their main fat source.
That would compensate the very lean game meat.

Unfortunately I found all nuts I tried so far completely useless regarding nutrition. I get digestive trouble from nuts. Furthermore I always get moody if I eat more than a handful of (100%) raw nuts.

Are there fat wild animals in southern Africa available at all?

What are your experiences with nuts?

What do other members here think about eating nuts?

He admitted to eating canned sardines and tuna too in addition to the fresh fish 3x/wk and didn't specify the frequency, so all we know for sure is fish 3 or more times per week, IIRC. He could be eating fish nearly every day for all we know and he said he occasionally has cheese and once a year he has lamb.

I still would like to find a 100 year old raw foodist...

Last night I got given a whole IMPALA from one of my yoga students whose husband runs a game farm! Was killed last week, he hung it for  a few days and then got thier butcher to cut it up for me. I have had to freeze all the 'meal-size' cuts, but enough space in my fridge for two legs.

Well, guess it's going to be wild impala for days to come! Had a tiny taste after class last night as I was unpacking and freezing, delicious. The dogs thought so too!!

Hi Bronwen,

as far as I know Impalas a very lean animals. I would like to know: Do they have fat at all? (backfat, kidney fat etc.)? Was it a grass fed animal?

Fiber behaves differently depending on whether its fermentable or not.  Your assumption that all fiber irritates the digestive system and causes stress isn't really backed up by anything.  I don't think theirs even evidence that non-fermentable fiber behaves the way you think it does.

What's about water-soluble fiber and non-soluble fiber? Could this be the factor?

From my own experience I can say that some fiber, for example from nuts (mature coconut etc.) cause immense stress in my gi tract. Fiber from leafy greens and fruits not at all... In so far I think that the "all fiber is harmful" - approach is not accurate.

After my short Atkins diet many years ago with lots of cooked animal fats I wasn't able to handle ANY fiber any more. Cooked animal fats seem to destroy our ability to handle fiber. Somehow they clog the whole body, IMO.
