Hot Topics / Re: German grass fed meat contaminated with Dioxin
« on: February 10, 2011, 01:55:44 am »
I posted about this issue a while back. It appears to be only a problem for those cattle given "feeds" which were chemically-adulterated with dioxins(ie only grainfed cattle, not grassfed cattle at all).

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the recent dioxin scandal in Germany, as soemone who hasn't read the article could assume. And it has nothing to do with feeds.

Meat from 100% GRASS FED cattle is strongly contaminated in some regions due to industrial pollution of air, water and grasslands.

Just watched the first episode. Really enjoyed it.

WoW, great video!

I cite: "...sugar is so scarce in these forrests..."

It's a tropical forrest! But where are all the natural watermelons, papayas and pineapples?? :-)

Check this guy out.109 years old! He has a series of videos on longevity if you search on youtube.

I have read an article about this centenarian a while ago, but forgot his name. Recently I was searching and searching the internet but couldn't find him.

Thank you very much!

Bernando Lapallo is very inspiring...

That sounds delicious,

Hehe. That's the reason why we say "Seelachs" in Germany. The original german name is "Köhler", which sounds not very attracting to customers. Lachs means salmon but "Seelachs" has nothing to do with the salmon species. Seelachs in english: pollack. I can't eat much of it...

...Usually those do the best with high sugar or fruit diets are also those who are very very active, and are able to burn off excess sugar in the blood before it can cause hormonal problems or feed things like candida.

This is a very important point, IMO. Nearly all people who eat large amounts of fruit are running everyday, some of them even marathons. Running, running, running like crazy.

When I was eating high amounts of high sugar fruits, I had always the feeling that I HAVE to run. Somehow this "motivation" to run wasn't very pleasant, it felt unnatural. Because I believed all the natural hygiene nonsense (I started my raw food journey 1999 after reading books from Arnold Ehret and Helmut Wandmaker) I never had the idea that all the fructose acts like a poison in my body. Running seems to be a good way to get rid of the excess sugar. Look at this durianriders - fruitarian. He needs 12 hours sleep (due to sugar overload) and 6-8 hours of bicycling (due to sugar overload).

I like the taste of honey, but my teeth don't like the aggressive sugars. I don't eat honey anymore. I even can't see any digestive benefits from honey.

Look in the supermarkeds for Irish red meat. If I am uncertain I go for the Irish stuff since the large majority of their producers grassfeed (grasing+silage) their animals. You can also see it on the creaemy yellow color the fat has compared to the shiny white stuff in the supermarked cooler. Usually you can have them to yourself too because people think since it has yellow fat it must be of a poor quality so its really cheap too. Whats not to like? If Denmark imports it, Ill bet you that so does France.

Thanks for your advice!
Unfortunately irish beef from the big exporters is not really grass-fed anymore. Portugal imports tons of beef from Ireland. I have testet it several times (while living in Portugal), the quality was always very poor. I think Ireland produces still the best beef in Europe, but you can only get it from small producers directly. AIBP and other meat export giants in Ireland told me that today even imported soy is used for feeding the cattle in Ireland...

Despite a genetic difference of as little as 2% between humans and gorillas (Sibley and Ahlquist 1984), the human colon may contribute as little as 2–9% to total energy (Livesey and Elia 1995, McBurney 1994, McNeil 1984) compared with possibly 30–60% for the gorilla.

Thanks! The article is a little bit confusing... I'm not sure if I got the message. Obviously leafy greens, vegetables and fiber are recommended. Most raw paleo low carbers would disagree, I think.

Hi,

I'm looking for good suppliers of 100% grass fed meat in southern France, in the departments Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales. All farmers I contacted so far use concentrates to finish their cattle...

Is anybody from France here who could give me some recommendations?

I find the fat on wild game here is fine. I usually eat a few carbs as well each day, so the fat is not an issue for me.

Do you eat any plant fats nowadays?

Humans acquire 2-5% of there total dietary energy from the bacterial fermentation of fiber into Short chain fatty acids.  Explain to us what resources are wasted?  The ones doing all the work are your gut bacteria.

Very interesting. That would confirm my own experience.

Could you show us some reports/studies about these 2-5% and benefical short chain fatty acids?

I also used to get a drugged, "feel-good" energetic feeling for  at least 30 minutes after drinking raw milk, followed by a period of significant  fatigue afterwards.

Yep.

plus bloody eyes, nervousness, anxiety, euphoria, massive weight gain, delayed healing, paleness etc. etc. ...

I don't have "issues" with frozen meat, but somehow I find fresh meat more filling.  ???

More filling?? Anyway, fresh is always best.

Do you have good sources for high quality 100% grass fed meat in Germany?

My suppliers are all located in Schleswig-Holstein and Holland.
I'm still looking for some good farmers in Hessen and Baden-Würtemberg. 100% grass fed + grass finished is still relatively rare.

So,I guess it's fair to say that your failed ZC experiment was due mostly to poor quality meats as opposed to ZC in of itself?

I tend to believe this.
But I see no need to avoid all fruits and vegetables completely.

Are you following a zero carb diet?

I am happy about it that is for sure. Now I am speaking to someone who will be supplying bison, deer, and wild boar from southern Az. The trip is about 100 miles, one way. I will probably buy a lot and end up eating high meat and jerky for a while!

For me, Bison ist the best of the best! It could be one reason to emigrate to USA. hehe. In Germany it's nearly impossible to get grass fed bison meat... They all fatten them up with grains and are proud of it. Unfortunately in most cases "grass fed" is still a foreign word for our few bison farmers.

Well, strictly speaking, wild animals are MORE prone to parasites as hey have wider access to wider areas that could be infested with parasites.

Not at all.
On limited grasslands one animal with parasites can cause an infestation of many others very quickly. The infested animal leaves parasites on the grass and because the land is very limited the other grazing animals absorb these parasites WITHIN the lifespan of these parasites. Quickly the whole grassland is full of parasites because these poor grazers have usually not more than one hectare space (in europe).

Such a scenario is usually not possible in the wild. Let's assume one animal of a herd is infested. It drops parasites somewhere. The probability that other animals absorb these parasites is significant lower than on fenced grazing land. The herd moves on and on, unlimited freedom. Furthermore an heavily infested animal is more prone to wolfes etc. or is sorted out in other ways very quickly.

Parasites are a big issue in cattle farming. I have learned this from cattle farmers. The smaller the grassland, the more issues with arasites.

The trouble with your argument is that many, many RVAFers eat raw wild game most of the time yet do not get parasites at all. I have eaten raw wild game much of the time for 9 years and only had 1 minor incident once, that was it. So, parasites are clearly a non-issue.

?? This could be a misunderstanding.

I wrote:
"I tend to believe that the parasite issue is primarily linked to DOMESTICATION of animals. "

Wild animals are NOT living like cows on very small grasslands. Their risk of infection is much lower.

It is one other reason to prefer wild game meat.

Even grassfed animals are routinely given deworming drugs, however organic,  so I doubt that parasites are an issue.

They are given regularly deworming drugs because parasites are a big issue.

In this respect you are right, for us these routines reduce the risk.

Compared to countless numbers of rawpalaeos who never get tapeworms on a RVAF diet. In short, the parasite scares are bogus.

I hope you are right. I tend to believe that the parasite issue is primarily linked to domestication of animals. Parasitic infections in ruminants explode as long as these animals have to graze on the same grasslands again and again...

I'm always amazed at how people can try to claim that cooked-foodists live long lives and ascribe that to a cooked diet. It's such a falsehood. I mean, the only reason why such people live long is they are under far less stress than previous generations, have access to advanced surgical techniques/drugs etc. ...

Absolutely!
As far as I can see nearly everyone in our cooked society is in some kind of health trouble from age 50! So many cases just in my neighbourhood with really miserable life quality at relatively young ages.

And I am not talking about teeth fillings and glasses...

I have been on this site for about 2 years now and the only one to get an infection was tyler and that was from some low grade meat. Also a side note, no harm was done to tyler in anyway. I myself have no troubles with it. I know yuli would eat salmon even after finding parasites in it and had no problems either.

He was eating cream and cheese also a lot. He makes "ZC-ice cream" with artifical sweetener and whipped cream.

I think he´s dairy consumption and the use of sweetener was not doing him any good.

Hi Inger,

you're right. Dairy could have played a role. According to scientists there is a strong relation between dairy, impaired IGF1 regulation and cancer.

But who knows, there are so many possible factors...

Cavities while eating zero carb? Interesting. How many cavities did you get? Did you eat any starch/sugar as "exception" or the like?  Did you have many cavities before? Did you get any cavities since you eat low carb? Did you eat any greens or vegetables when you ate zero carb?

Why don´t you eat tropical fruit?

Hallo Hanna,

yes, cavitis while on zero carb. I always thought that this is completely impossible due to the absence of sugars. But there are more factors involved. I didn't eat any plant food, no honey and no other sugary food at all. The reason for tooth decay was that my mouth was extremely dry, salivation was strongly impaired. I know from hospitals that people without proper salivation (due to chemotherapy for example) can loose their formerly perfect teeth completely within a few weeks. Strong saliva is very important for healthy teeth.

I had some cavities before my zero carb diet, since age 16 or 18 or so. I don't get any cavities on raw paleo low carb.

The meat that I had eaten was extremely toxic. There is no other explanation for most of the symptoms I got. Later I found out that one of my so called grass fed beef supplier buys tons of pellets made of waste from sugar production plants every month to speed up his beef production processes. As already mentionend I'm very careful today. I never ever touch any raw meat from supermarkets or butcher shops anymore...

Viele Grüße

Yes, I used to eat a half jackfruit everyday for my lunch. Colombo is awfully polluted from black exhaust smoke of diesel engines. Kandy must be as polluted now, I guess. The last time I went there was in 2003, a year before the tsunami.

I'll be 65 in July.

Sounds like you are living your dreams. That's great!

I guess you feel healthy at age 65 on your raw paleo diet, right?
