General Discussion / Vegans and Salt

This morning I received a Newsletter from Dr. McDougall. Yes, Dr. McDougall. I'm not convinced no animal foods are necessary, but at the same time I believe there are many valuable nutrients in potatoes and they are sooo low cal if eaten correctly and FILLING! and low cost! Don't get me started because this is about SALT.

So even the 'good' Dr. feels people are misguided about the evil SALT empire.

Quote from the British Medical Journal (2002):3

“Lowering sodium intake may have adverse effects on vascular endothelium through stimulation of the renin-angiotensin system and on serum total and low density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations. In cohort studies, lower salt intake in people with hypertension has been associated with higher levels of cardiovascular disease and in general populations with greater all cause mortality.”

Quote about the NHANES III study from the Journal of General Internal Medicine (2008)4

“Observed associations of lower sodium with higher mortality were modest and mostly not statistically significant. However, these findings also suggest that for the general US adult population, higher sodium is unlikely to be independently associated with higher CVD or all-cause mortality.”

Don't shoot the messenger  :o

Good Morning,

Lex, you may be right. It's easy to get caught up in something new, a detoxt or cleanse. What I learned most of all is that I can use this as a tool if I feel I haven't gone in a while and I should... without using man-made laxatives, which I honestly never do anyway- so I just wait and wait and push.

Does anyone think this might have an effect our flora and fauna? Might it make our mitochondria happy or sad?

Best wishes,
Avalon  :)

A River Runs Through Me ;D

Well, I think I'm done, I think. It's been about an hour now. After the first 10-15 minutes I had a pretty good go. It might have been better if I hadn't had a lot of wine on Friday. Wine always purges me also. After that I had a small go and a half hour or so later 2 showers heh heh- mostly water.

I am glad something happened though as I've heard with some people nothing happens.

And If anything, It was exciting to do something new, yes? Anticipation!

I don't feel quite right though, so maybe I'm not done yet.

BCG07, I don't know if I want to do it again tomorrow :( Maybe once a week?

Happy day everybody!

This water is extREMEly salty!! My goodness! It tastes like sea water. Am I sure I'm not poisoning myself?
I'm using RealSalt by the way... I saw it in the store the other day and decided to pick it up.
I'm almost finished

Exactly! Soup or sea water!

Okay, it's down. Are we crazy!!!! I poured the quart into two large glasses. That didn't seem like a lot until I started drinking it.

so how long do we wait now? Oh brother...

Sounds rough  :(

I have to tell you that your descriptions are graphic and perhaps another visit to a Hospital Emergency Room might not be a bad thing. Otherwise, try everything you can. Google, Google, Google. It might be something very simple.

Good luck,
Best wishes,
Xeta :)

oh, yes, I think veggie juice would be alright- but not carrots :)

Hi Nicola,

I want to try this also. But, what bothered me was at the bottom of the page was Salt for sale. Hmmm time to Google this Hopkins Doctor Salt guy. I could use a good cleansing.

Okay I take back my juice fast idea because I'd missed the candida issue. A juice fast would be a bad move if one is already suffering from a yeast infection. Yeast feeds on sugar and juice is pure sugar.  :o

Good Morning Declan,

If this has been mentioned already and I missed it, please forgive me, but my first instinct would be for you to do a short water fast. 3 days to a week, hopefully with someone you know, helping you.

If your digestive system is whacked, it might help giving it a breather. Maybe even a juice fast. I have a good 7 Day fast I could pm you. You can usually find cheap juicers in thrift stores if you don't own one.

Best wishes,
Avalon  :)

p.s. if you haven't been to CureZone you might want to spend some time reading posts. Peoplel are dealing with everything over there.

Those videos terrify me! m&ms! Potato chips! And that's likely the good stuff.

I wonder what they feed the lamb from Australia in my market. They do sell Maverick Grass fed Beef and Buffalo.

And now with the FDA approving irradiation for geens, my heart sinks more and more.

I need a Garden!

I'm not sure about the 'cooking' issue, but it's the shoreline idea that catches my interest. Maybe it wasn't Cows and Wild Boars or any land animal, but rather this:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/38009.php

Quote
Something had to start the process of brain expansion and I think it was early humans eating clams, frogs, bird eggs and fish from shoreline environments. This is what created the necessary physiological conditions for explosive brain growth," says Dr. Cunnane, a metabolic physiologist at the University of Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Maybe just the fact that these food stuffs are not from our own environment means something. A clam lives in water, we live on land. They are like, aliens and we eat them! And then we change and change and stuff like on Outer Limits! ;D Totally!

Okay, confession. It's difficult sometimes to reveal one truth while not remembering another. What?

That, is like, Steak Tartar! Which I do happen to love! And recently, well, time is fleeting... not that long ago I was eating a Buffalo Tartar inspired by Hans Dehmelt, a Nobel Prize Winner.

http://www.acneboard.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1020&sid=d667fd9186ec1f6d2acc8669ff69d79f

My Buffalo Tartar

If you don't mind nuts, chopped brazil nuts are wonderful in it.

Interestingly, yours has Olive oil. I found, and this may be the same with Olive Oil, that by adding the ground flax, the fat released help preserve the portions from oxidation in the fridge. The glass jars showed nice, red Buffalo Tartar. However a few times, I left the flax out, the meat went gray and just didn't have the same, something. I wonder if the Olive Oil would do the same thing.

My remark about Cow has more to do with all the Cancer talk. And the Neu5Gc stuff:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/09/030930055440.htm

Though Neu5Gc is also in Pork and Lamb. But type Beef Cancer into Google and look out! Type Lamb Cancer and right at the top is a link that says, maybe it helps with breast cancer. Or type pork in and you still don't find what you find with Beef.

So even though when weak, I'll buy a rib eye, something doesn't sit well with me.

And you don't hear the same thing regarding chicken or fish or ferrets  ;D

Lastly  ;) of course maybe it all has to do with raw vs cooked, but finding Neu5Gc in human tumors is scary.

and stuff.

For a while I was eating raw steak cut into chunks, with Soy and some Italian seasoning and it was good. But I gotta say the rarest of steak with salt and melting fat is killer!

This coming from someone who will still partakes occasionally of Cow, but feels lamb and other animals seem to cause less problems in humans as far as we know.

If people are not willing to pay for real healers, then I will just keep all this knowledge to myself as a hobby and turn away those who ask for my help.

I feel for your dilemma also but I'll tell you that the sentence above bothers me. Even if you can't make a living at healing, you should not keep it to yourself and turn people away. Or maybe you will help people as a hobby? Did I misunderstand?

I agree with Satya, write a book about the story of your success. It's a long road, but people often learn best by example. Many people don't understand the significance. Then, many do and if you put yourself out there long enough, they'll find you.

And I'll go out on a limb. If your Family supports your decision, then you might take a shot at it for a certain amount of time. If they don't, I don't know, Family First is a big issue with me.

Hope  didn't offend. I'm hoping to become a nutritional consultant and help where I can. My Father won't believe a word out of my mouth unless I have a piece of paper stating I passed some test DOHHH!!!

Best wishes,

Yeah, I didn't mean that the way it sounded. 'Sad' with respect to the mercury and farming risks with other fish. I like sardines and would love to find them fresh somewhere.

They are packed with nutrition those little suckers!

(just in case you eat cooked once in a while, or can find raw sardines)

Sadly, I've been eating more sardines than salmon and other fish lately which is why I decided to Google Sardines vs Salmon and found this article from the times-

I'm just speaking mathematically. You have two options, you don't know which one is correct, so you do both. Well if one is still correct and the other is incorrect then you're still wrong half of the time. If you choose to do only one of them then you have a 50% chance to either be right all of the time or wrong all of the time.

If you don't know which one is correct, and they both might be correct, then you might be right 100% of the time.

And if perchance the avidin does bind with the biotin half the time while eating the whole egg, because you are eating half as yolks only, you're not a complete failure- and in this case shouldn't suffer a biotin deficiency which makes this exercise a complete success.

This is still being hit on the head lessons in here.

Sincerely,
The Management
