Off Topic / Re: Twelve Tribes Of Israel

I don't think there is a single group of christian or jewish sect that gets those laws correct. All of the scripture I have read concerning "do not eat the blood." and "do not eat the fat" or "do not eat the organs" is NOT condemning the consumption of them. It is condemning removing them from the sacrifice. The scriptures are all in the context of God giving the "rules" or procedure of sacrifice. If God wants a sacrifice, he wants the BEST, otherwise it's not a sacrifice. If I were going to give another person a gift to show how great I feel towards them, and get them a crappy $10 J.C. Penny bracelet, what am I really giving up? Now an expensive Tiffany's diamond bracelet requires a lot more sacrifice and shows more devotion.

Understanding that all cultural context was naturally assumed by the reader of the scriptures, there is no need to say, "do not do this BECAUSE X." It is simply assumed the reader knows his own culture. So when the bible says "do not eat the fat" it is really saying, "DONT YOU DARE CHEAT ME OUT OF THAT DELICIOUS FAT THAT I KNOW YOU ARE TEMPTED TO EAT YOU SELFISH BRAT!!" or more subtly "make sure the fat is in the sacrifice also"

On another related note: during the sacrifice it is procedure that the fire "consumes" it entirely. The Hebrew's very likely viewed the sacrifice as LITERALLY being given to God through flame, and by putting their food in flame it lost what was good about it. This is relative only to the early generations that practiced sacrifice, and I think they may have eaten raw or mostly raw meat. Of course they cooked because the way grains are talked about from the early writings, but I think it was understood the raw or mostly raw meat was better.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Kidney discomfort
« on: October 11, 2013, 11:32:14 am »
+1 for what GS said. On ZC you cannot, I repeat cannot!!! let yourself eat too much protein. This does multiple things against yourself:

1. Gluconeogenesis limits your ketosis and you end up feeling tired and weak because you aren't running on ketones.

2. Your kidneys are what processes the extra protein and you get kidney stones, usually pain in them is the first symptom. Water can flush out extra protein instead of letting it sit in there and solidify.

3. At .82 g of protein per pound of bodyweight, you should have the correct amount necessary for your body without too much extra. When consuming only fat as the rest of your calories your body gets into the correct level of ketosis (ketonemia instead of ketonuria). This creates fuel for your brain whereas the protein cannot fuel your brain. Your brain runs on either glycogen or ketones, not protein. Protein must first be converted via GNG for the brain to use it.

You ask about my experience and when I first started ZC I had a few weird issues that went away in about 3-4 days and I've felt pretty much great since. Nightmares... hmm, actually I think I only have nightmares now with carbs or drugs (stimulants in particular).

Cut down protein, increase fat. A fat only fast is a GREAT idea for deepening ketosis and adapting more quickly. I'm pretty sure a day or two of no protein will do absolutely NOTHING to change your muscle mass, ketosis is muscle sparing. So as long as you get enough fat, when your glycogen runs out, your body will not eat it's muscle.

Also, lift heavy things to speed it up too.

Not only that, most wild bears grow up through babies into adults eating generally the same diet, so they don't get the sensitivities of an unnatural  diet to cause "deformities" compared to what would be healthy development. For example, I suspect most people with carb intolerances grew up eating poor quality carbs and therefore their body has trouble identifying it correctly, almost like an allergy. I know that's the case with me. I'm sure growing up on grains is why I have ADHD and why carbs bring back ADHD symptoms. I'm not saying I'll never eat carbs again, no, that's silly. I'm saying there is healing that needs to occur, if at all possible. However I digress and want to get back on the water/salt issue.

Interesting dr. d I get the same effect from water but view it as a negative.

Water kills my appetite and I start to become malnourished. I dont see why you view consuming less food as a positive thing. THe more food I can get into me the better I feel.

THe problem with water and why it makes you not crave food is because it dilutes your digestive enzymes and alkalinizes your gut. This is especially bad for meat eaters since we need an acid gut. When it is alkalinized we lose cravings for meat.

People often mistake the fact that they get thinner when drinking water as a sign of being healthy. This is a complete fallacy, there is nothing healthy about being so thin that you have six pack abs. This is all the result of our sick society pushing starvation culture on the masses in preparation for austerity.

I consume about 1500 to 1800 calories in milk with added cream per day alone. I consume about 3000-3500 calories per day total every day for about a year now. I feel so much healthier with layer of fat covering my whole body. No six pack here, I found that most six packers I meet are weaklings, all truly strong men have a belly of some sort, look at the strongman competitions.

What did you replace your water with when going off water?

Food is the only thing I could use to replace my water with. I don't eat many fruits and veggies nor do I have desire to juice them. I can't do dairy, even raw. Honey is about the only carb I do okay with right now, and even that makes me very thirsty.

This is a very tough issue because athleticism does not equate to health. It confuses many people and they are hard to separate. You see a strongman and you know he's athletic but they always end up with destroyed bodies by the time they are 40. Marathon runners are basically anorexic but can outperform any of us. Sprinters have the most rounded of athleticism but often consume pizza as a staple. So how do we differentiate between what they do and what we should or shouldn't do? I'm sure most drink lots of water. Exercise tends to promote thirst and hunger, and you "gotta stay hydrated."

I may get flack here for this but I really don't think a little excess fat is good. I think it's good to fluctuate weight. I don't think one should get to the point of anorexia and one should definitely work on functional muscle building over aesthetic muscle building. I would argue 25% bodyfat is too much. Sorry, that's just chubby. You lose so much athleticism at that bodyfat percentage, your joints become inflammed from the weight, your poor knees and heels!!! Max bodyfat imo should be about 17-18%. Most pictures of hunter gatherers I see are at or below that. Lowest bodyfat should occur early spring at hopefully no less than 9%. Abs show at 12%. You become quite vascular at 10% also. Function>appearance, but at optimal function, healthy appearance occurs. Look at Ido Portal. He eats a "paleo" type diet as far as I understand and have seen videos of him eating bugs, which seems to be much more than most of us do here. Low bodyfat does not instantly mean malnourished. Too many factors in play.

Drinking water: Gosh this one's a toughie. I respect your knowledge on it a lot, Svrn. I still can't see why the extra energy and decreased hunger is a bad thing. Not only that but clarity of mind. Eating more food instead of drinking water only worsens the symptoms. Shouldn't that simply be clear enough to say that it's obvious that drinking water should be the option. Feel bad, drink and feel better. Feel bad, eat and feel worse. Feel bad, drink raw milk and feel worse. Feel bad, eat fruit and take a nap and be out of commission for the day. I feel weaker when I eat more than I'm supposed to. I AM weaker. I've compared fasted workouts to after eating and after eating a lot, fasted I definitely have the most output and drive to hit failure. Also, if I can't drink water or milk, what am I SUPPOSED to drink? Blood seems like a reasonable and natural option were I a paleo hunter, though I simply don't have access. Maybe I can cut a deal with my beef supplier.

One thing I can think of for extra energy/decreased hunger is that coffee gives the same effect to people. However, it is the drug causing the unnatural push. The energy derived from water is a natural energy, not hyper, clear headed, and no effect on emotions.

Hopefully like the rest of us, I'm willing to learn and change and accept that it's not the correct or optimal way to live. I'm just going off of what I've done and the best route for me. Also, from what I've read about long living historical figures that drank a lot of water. (though Svrn may argue from a conspiracy POV that that history is falsified to promote a water drinking agenda. I'm not mocking him either, I think that may be a completely valid point).

General Discussion / Re: Temporarily Eating Cooked Foods, what to do?
« on: October 11, 2013, 01:01:26 am »
I've ran out of food recently and had nothing other but poor quality grain-fed beef. I didn't trust the source so I cooked it and ate it and had only fatigue from trying to digest it. You should be fine for a few days but don't expect to feel 100%. Personally, I would try and find the nearest market with good fruits and try to get your fuel from that.

I understand how you can't exactly share with all your family you eat raw. If I told my grandma I ate only raw meat she would die of nervousness, she just wouldn't understand it's healthier. She is set in her ways and loves me and worries that I'd get poisoning.

Hot Topics / WA state GMO labeling issues currently at hand.
« on: October 10, 2013, 07:47:10 am »
There has been ongoing debate concerning the law around labeling GMO products. It seems in the organic world they are pressing for GMO, arguing that it would help clarify what is GMO or not in the grocery store. IMO this is a good thing, as I think we can all agree, it's a small step in the right direction.

However, as I watch TV/news/other media, there seems to be STRONG backing against it. For example, the Washington State Farm Bureau is INSISTENT that it will cause more work for farmers. Yet nobody questions what farmers? Wheat and corn and soy farmers for sure!! They have no non-GMO crops! This kind of labeling may finally turn people on to the idea of how much genetically modified foods they are eating. As for fruit farmers, we have little to no GMO in WA state, in fact none IIRC. Maybe Watermelons, but not many come from WA.

Another argument is the law is "incomplete" and there are exceptions to the labeling, dog food made with the same meat source as something thats gmo would be labeled, but the same meat wouldn't be.

http://factsabout522.com/?utm_term=I-522&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Search&utm_campaign=WAI522 is the site against it. It seems like a money driven thing, just curious what you guys know about this sort of political drive.

I get negative effects from drinking anything other than water. Water also gives me many benefits. Without it, I desire to eat almost nonstop. I'm not kidding, I need about 2100 calories a day and I have gone eating double that for a week without water, all raw meats also. If I drink water after a meal I feel has a right proportion, then I feel satisfied. If I drink water again 2 hours later instead of eating, I get more energy and don't feel like eating another meal.

Iguana and haai's arguments line up IMO. I know iguana has pointed out tropical fruits are available near year round but I simply don't have the experience.

As you can see already, saying a raw paleo diet is very general and everyone's bodies have different needs. Aside from lex rooker, I'm sure all of us have cycled our foods not eating the same thing for over a year. Is that right? Tough to say. Is our health better? Pretty much universally, yes we are all healthier.

One thing I've never mentioned, Inger, is my dad's family is from Sweden and Finland. I have and know family from Umea, Sweden and they have a summer house in Finland they stay at frequently. So in some small way we are kind of connected :D ;)

If I ever get a chance to go visit them I'll be sure to let you know and we may be able to meet up! I was thinking of trying a trip this summer.

I suspect something about the Finns and their poor health may be partially due to healthcare availability, my family says it's bad. They also seem to rely on it too much, rather than deciding to take health into their own hands. Plus, the Finns are not social enough! They are so cold, not friendly at all. I can say that, my Grandpa almost never said he loved us. They don't share in love enough and that's hard on the spirit.

The stupid thing about the "my strange addiction" show and fitting raw foodists into it is you are really stretching the truth. I doubt there is a single person on this forum that gets an orgasmic response the way most of those people do to their addictions. We don't have an addiction not because we are "in denial" but rather because we don't get the same "high" that those people with addictions get, like a person popping a balloon equated it to more exciting than an orgasm. That's addiction. A massive dopamine rush combined with fixation on the ritual regarding your addiction. Most/all of us just eat and go about our lives, possibly from a psychological standpoint far less obsessed and "addicted" to our food than most people on the planet. I know I think about food waaaay less now and feel way more satisfied with my meals and way less hungry in between. Almost like, eating in a wild way has made me able to sort of.... survive the wild? Huh... what an anomaly.

Some wild berries and wild plants are a neat example of foods which can be beneficial in small amounts but deadly when the proper amount is exceeded.

Great answer! Excellent points.

Hi and welcome! Glad to see a new person excited and not weary about raw foods!

There is a TON of info. Use the search bar and read read read. I did that my first month and learned from mistakes. A lot of here don't "concern" ourselves much with weight loss; it's not really an issue with a raw paleo diet. The issue with weight comes in not eating fully raw, junk food, alcohol, dairy, etc. and other non-paleo foods. Not to say we aren't interested in helping! Quite the contrary, we feel it helps so naturally that we don't have many issues brought up about it. Personally I gained a few pounds this last month because of some delicious apples and pears we have growing here, and now they are done so it's coming off.

Almost everyone has a different approach. I can't prescribe anything but I'll share what's been doing well for me and maybe you will find it works for you if you feel like trying. I eat mostly carnivorous as you have laid out in your plan. I try to take a little bit from Iguana and eat "instinctively, not mixing" and it seems to make things easier and I haven't felt like I'm missing out on flavor. Almost the opposite I'm starting to notice, adding seasonings and mixing is almost... disappointing. I usually expect it to taste better but it doesn't. I've been eating raw for 4-5 months now and am just starting to notice this, so don't rush it if you aren't comfortable. It almost doesn't make sense to me yet and I'm trying to learn what I can. I don't have a wide enough range of foodstuffs to eat that way entirely and have it be fully effective, so I supplement with iodine and that protocol. That has been wonderful in my health and makes me feel fantastic. I don't think iodine helps with weight, but it might help with mood/energy depending on your toxicity level and help you from "cheating."

Going ketogenic seems to be the easiest way to lose weight for most people IF your body can handle the adaptation. Not all people can for whatever reasons. I love being ketogenic as I'm pretty sure being raised on such terrible carbs as wheat and cooked sugars damaged my brain and I can't think very well when I eat even some raw carbs in too high amounts. I have been sensitive to food for about the past year but nothing nearly as much as the switch to raw. It's really helped me gain an even greater understanding of what my body needs and how it will respond to certain foods. Just saying that to share my experience.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Oh, okay that makes sense. Yeah, I use Celtic sea salt and really like it. It doesn't have that nasty table salt flavor (literally makes me nauseous), and I have noticed the bits of sand and grit. Though they seem to dissolve well enough in the water so that doesn't bother me much. Not worth the extra money then? In other words, your opinion, fleur de sel worth getting over Celtic gray? Thanks.

Since this is a thread about loving salt I assume this is on topic: would you mind sharing more about fleur de sel? All I know is its expensive but supposedly the best finishing salt. Beyond that, how does it fair in the raw scope of things? I enjoy salt and find it necessary in small amounts with the occasional binge if I find my body responding beneficially.

I found the rawpaleodiet.com page before I found the forum. I read the testimonials and info then came to the forum. Forums can be overwhelming until you learn to navigate each one, since they all seem to be unique in their layout. Maybe Derek couple write up a testimonial for that page? Googling Derek Nance now brings up a bunch of hits for "weird raw meat addiction /diet " lol. Good job! Maybe adding a page could redirect people to that page and our forum.

Very true. Ripley's did AV as a freak who was able to eat rotten meat and not die. Though people probably figured they couldn't or didn't have such serious health problems that they needed to eat rotten meat for health. Yuck! Who knows though, maybe a few people looked into AV's stuff more after that show?

Sadly everyone wants to see outward changes of this diet, and it barely works that way. There are physical health symptoms that appear through poor diet, but most people can't even see those change once the diet is replaced. How can you see a physical representation of a chemical change? Diet changes your body's chemistry. Other things like exercise change another thing. Yes, they will overlap sometimes. However even looking at pictures of me from years ago you could never tell that in all of them I just wanted to sleep. I felt so sick and tired! Weak. Now however, anything comes up in my day and I just think "sure, let's do it!"

I think it would benefit us more to move away from the concept of seeing the changes induced by raw, and rather tout our medical experiences. I have the physical documentation to prove I was on Adderall. DaBoss has medical records for his medication. GS has proof of eczema. The list goes on. Things like that add credibility. Then the only step after that is using that credibility to share the facts on bacteria, enzymes, complete amino profiles, vitamin bioavailability, and all the other benefits of eating raw foods.

Welcome! Not sure where you're located but for the US we have eatwild.com. that has a lot of farms with good healthy animals. Try and find whatever you can wild and unfrozen if possible. Then for red meats grass fed is most important (organic means nothing). Grain fed meat simply tastes sick and unhealthy. For birds, they should get plenty of bugs. Fish I would just as soon go without rather than eat farmed if I couldn't get wild.

Thanks for sharing, hope we can help on your journey.

As far as land animals I've only eaten deer. A friend just got a moose and said he'd share. I live in the country and we have lots of groundhogs, coyote, snakes and birds (and bugs but I don't have the guts for those... yet. Someday) . Also, the occassional cougar or bear but they aren't common. Probably the only thing I wouldn't attempt to eat is the coyote because they can scavenge garbage and I can't guarantee their health. Does anyone have a reason why I shouldn't eat any of the others?
Birds could easily be my main food source if I added in extra fat. Anybody have robins, sparrow, blackbird, quail, kingbird, dove, or pheasant raw yet? My place is loaded with all sorts of birds.

For seafood, I live by a river and want to catch some rainbow trout while avoiding the genetically modified triploid.

The comments in the dailymail article are far more immature than the Vice comments.

Hannibal!

He'll be a cannibal next!

He'll eat his girlfriend next!

Get ready for gout!

People are so indoctrinated by the govt./media/social standards/ desire for pleasure in culinary arts/ and other things. Not every argument will will all people over. For me, it was as simple as I've known for a long time raw fruits and veggies were healthier. Then I found out about feeding dogs raw, and how humans are the only ones who cook and the only ones with "incurable" diseases. Too coincidental. Sadly, not everyone thinks the way we do on the forum. We are people who question everything. You have to question things to take a bite of raw/rotten meat with the hopes it won't kill you when you've been told the opposite your whole life.

Either way, the Vice article seems like it's audience was more receptive of the concept of raw. Daily mail seems like the audience is just more immature, based on "recommended articles," the whole right side is dominated by pointless celeb gossip.

Who knows. Maybe we can get a few more people here from it, after they think about it for a while and maybe lurk for info.
