Out of curiosity would you consider yourself to be one who gains weight easily?

Yes and no. On RPD I don't gain weight easely. But I'm starting to think that's the way nature intended it.

On a grain SAD diet I can gain weight and muscle mass fairly adequately. Why do you ask?

Wow, got a little hot around here since i last posted....  8)

I only go through 2 litres every 4 days or so, so i don't think that is overdoing it....but i think i may cut it out for a month or 2
(after reading all the 'hoo harr' earlier on in this thread) and see how that feels.

The milk is from jersey cows, and tastes pretty dam good. I eat the shit out of raw butter too, so maybe my total load of dairy is getting up there..?
I also get a bit of no salt added raw goats cheese, which i hook into a bit ....hmmmm

I do crave dairy, so maybe there is a connection with some of the constipation i've been having on and off of late.

Forthehunt How long did you fast for?? , and how did you break you're fast? Juices? milk? ha ha ...

I've done multiple fasts. My longest one on nothing but water was for 12 days. Very beneficial but too long. I don't recommend fasting longer than 4-6 days actually.

The fast I'm talking about was a 5 day apple and applecider vinegar fast. Also very beneficial for my health.

I added raw milk to my raw paleo/primal diet this past spring. I buy 12 litres a week. I find it very beneficial, and don't experience any negative effects.

I think that in general, raw milk is a beneficial food for adult mammals, and that adult mammals who can't tolerate raw milk are the exception, not the rule. I know that such a view won't be very popular here. I came to it after thinking about the Pottenger cat feeding experiment, which demonstrates that raw milk has no negative effects on cats:

http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/primal-diet/av-on-radio-on-the-web-link/msg43742/#msg43742

Tyler says that Pottenger can't be trusted. I'd be interested to know what others think.

That's an interesting take, the theory that bodies with problems can't handle milk.

Me and another member couldn't stand milk (Swollen lymph nodes, ears getting stuffy, immediately after drinking dairy) then in both cases we did a long fast which improved our health greatly, and after that had NO problems what so ever with milk.

In fact I think I've drunk around 2-3 liters of milk today and I feel smashing.

Can you explain. What is wrong with high meat from frozen meat?

I think the general idea is the fact that all the bacteria on the meat dies when freezing, thus it creates some botulism effect using frozen meat.

Not quite sure though.

It is a scam as a NZ company is planning to profit from this by making up new stories about how supposedly wonderful A2 milk is, and they then plan to corner the market.

Perhaps, but this phenomena is real non the less.. I've just been reading some independent Icelandic studies on the matter and they pretty much confirm that it's real. And the studies are over 12 years old. So it's not some fad.

Irrelevant as  it is the amount of casein that is important. Human milk has far lower levels of casein than cows' milk etc.

The A1 and A2 issue is also a scam since those allergic to raw dairy often report trying milk from only A2 cows and still experiencing problems with the  stuff.

Doesn't make it a scam

They appear to be all in range.

Don't things like cortisol change through out the day anyway? seems like if anyone looked hard enough and took enough tests you can find something wrong. I know, I've done it.

Just noticed anti TPO is high. What ever that is and who cares?

You know I get fatigue, feel cold sometimes, cramps, get swollen glands, dry eyes,  I even lost muscle mass lately because I went through a bit of a life changing transition but it will come back when things settle down. I could keep going on but these symptoms are part of being alive. It's the human condition. Most people don't give these symptoms a second thought and they go away. If you keep thinking about them and try and cure them they get worse.

I agree. I feel a big part of your problems might be mental Yuri.

My experience with milk, raw or otherwise, has not been good.  I'm not lactose intollerant, but as a teenager I had cystic acne and it continued well into my late 20's.  The dermatologists insisted that diet had nothing whatever to do with it, and I was on antibotics for years trying to control it.  Then someone suggested that I quit consuming dairy, and within a few weeks the acne cleared up and never returned.  Then I noticed other improvements as well.  I had always suffered from a post nasel drip and that went away, and my constant sinus congestion disappeared as well.  The first thing I suggest to people having health problems of any kind is to quit consuming dairy products.  No other mamal consistently consumes milk after it is weaned.  Why would we expect humans be different?

Lex

Thanks appreciate your input.

I was never a heavy consumer of dairy as a kid and as a teenager I stopped all together. So it was definitely not the cause of my problems.

But well, evolution. Man evolved to speak and think multidimensionally, unlike other mammals, aswell as evolved to eat meat, so I wouldn't be shocked that my lineage, evolved to eat dairy. Seeing as it was a bunch of herders.

Prior to eating RAF, i couldn't do dairy at all without super amounts of phlegm, from cheese, and bloating and gas from raw milk. But before i started eating RAF, i went on a 13 day fast (water only) I came off the fast with the intention of following Aajonus's primal style diet, and found that raw dairy was fine. In fact, once i started on raw milk, i couldn't stop guzzling the stuff! So now i have raw milk and raw butter daily. No phlegm, and no bloating.
But its early days for me. Ive been eating RAF/Primal for not even 2 months....but hey....i feel better than ever. So far.....

But i will definitely cut it out if i feel any trouble brewing, but at the moment, i crave it more than not.

Exact same thing happened to me.

Before my fast I couldn't touch dairy, same reasons as you.. I could just feel my lymph nodes swelling up and my ears getting stuffy. But after the fast I couldn't feel a thing.

Yeah, but it's so little..

Unless there's a some method I don't know about. I buy about 12 litres of milk per week and I doubt there would be enough cream in there for any substantial amount of butter, what do you think?

One more thing Lex, could you share with me your experience with raw milk?

I'm drinking a lot of raw milk these days and it's going down quite nicely. But raw milk has a LOT of opposition on these boards so it has me slightly worried that I might wake up one day with problems.

Yes.

That is definitely a big statement.

I am kind of worried about the milk seeing as it has such a horrible reputation on this board. But like I said, for me it's working nicely. I feel balanced, calm, more centered and my energy is really stable. It's not manic energy as you once described (if I remember correctly).

But yet with all the opposition milk is getting here I'm afraid I might wake up one day and done damage to my health.

Could you share, in detail how your milk experience was? How the whole process developed

Making butter is super easy if you have raw cream. Then you just have to whip it and it turns into butter eventually.

The problem is isolating the raw cream, I'm not sure how to do that with raw milk.

And therein lays the rub.  No one knows.  Most of this stuff is just a guess – some of it rather uneducated.  As such, the best we can do is research and evaluate the evidence for ourselves and make up our own minds as to what to believe and how best to live our lives.

My own belief is that we ate meat and fat as much as possible and resorted to other foods when meat was scarce.  Since we have a sweet tooth, and eating carbs causes huge insulin spikes and a resulting rapid weight gain, I believe that we ate whatever fruits were available in the late summer/early fall and the added body fat prepared us for the lean winter months.  Over the winter we would use this extra body fat and come spring we would have lost all the extra weight and the cycle would start over again.  The key here is that it was a cycle which we see in many other animals as well.  Carbs for us would have been limited by seasonal availability so our consumption would have naturally been limited, and the extra body fat taken care of by the next phase in the cycle.  Our problem today is that we eat carbs as our primary food all year around and then can’t understand why we get obese and have health problems.  Our modern food distribution systems have corrupted the natural seasonal cycles as well as providing an overabundance of food requiring no labor to procure it.  Grains, of course are another matter altogether.  We’d of had no way of consuming these at all.

Again, all this is pure speculation on my part, and just my person belief. It may have no relationship whatever to reality.  You get to make up your own mind.

I did have a bit of constipation for the first several months but it slowly got better and then finally went away.  I handled the problem initially by using one of those squeeze type enema  syringes.  http://www.enemasupply.com/faulrecsyr8o.html   I’d use it when it just seemed nothing else would get things moving.  I found that only one squeeze was usually necessary.  This is not a full enema where you use a quart of water or more.  The syringe just adds about 6oz of water which seemed to be plenty to do the trick.  It did two things.  It provided an immediate expansion of the lower colon which triggered a bowel movement, and it loosened up anything that was hard and causing a blockage.

Over time my colon adapted to the smaller volume of fecal material.  I also started including more fat in my diet.  The additional fat kept things loose and pasty so that they could pass easily.  If you try to eat a low fiber diet with too little fat you’ll find that your stools will become hard and difficult to pass – especially if you are in the transition states and your intestinal bacteria have not changed – long before excess protein becomes a problem.

Part of the cause of this issue is that the intestinal flora must change completely and this takes time.  I’ve posted details of this elsewhere in my journal and won’t repeat it here.

Lex

I understand, thanks very much.

Hi, I am into paleo but also consider myself primal and follow aajonus vonderplanitz.  I don't think its an ideology as much as a personal choice about what works for each individual.  For me, I feel raw dairy is a great addition to my diet.  How do you guys feel?

Sean

I started raw dairy 3 weeks ago and so far I'm loving it.

I'm very perceptive about whats good and what's bad for my body and so far I've had nothing but positive effects and more energy from it.

Lex, I'm experimenting with the primal diet now, so my diet is mainly meat and milk with a tablespoon of honey per day.

And so far I feel really great, but am constipated as hell since I've cut out fruit.

I can feel there is plenty of stuff down there, but it's not moving out. Mainly because there's no 'pushing agent', i.e. like fruit.

Did you ever experience this? Do you think the constipation is a transitional thing and will eventually go away?

thanks

Mostly primal here

Lots of meat, milk and about a tablespoon of honey.

I used to eat meat and fruit mainly, but have trouble with fruit after I introduced milk. I feel a lot better on meat and milk anyway.

Although I'm pretty constipated, I'm hoping it will pass

Funny you mention that. I am a little more careful not to bite my tongue because my canines are much more sharper now.

If you were wondering weather I'm bragging about my vampire-like fangs.. yes  :P.

But well, if we antagonize vegans we're just as bad as they are.

You'll have to assess whether it's serious or not

Don't mean to scare you, it's probably nothing.. But left side weakness is often due to serious brain disease, i.e. tumors, MS, neuropathy

I like your invention!

It's a problem I have struggled with for a long time. How do I warm the meat up while keeping it raw when I am hungry and want it NOW.

How do you others cope with this?

I suppose I could plan ahead but then.....that takes a high level of inteligence.

Cut it to pieces and throw in the oven at 40°

Calories aren't created equally, so don't follow some bullshit you read in fitness magazines about you need 3000 calories per day.

Eat until you're not hungry. Don't stuff your self. Will give you problems.
