General Discussion / Chicken fed vegetables?
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:49:46 am »
Hi
I usually wouldn't even think about eating raw chicken because they are usually fed 100% grain diet. However at whole foods I found some organic chicken that is fed 100% vegetable diet. Is this just as good as grass fed beef?
thanks

General Discussion / Anyone here eat insects?
« on: April 30, 2010, 01:39:47 pm »
I live in the United States so the practice of eating bugs is practically illegal but does anyone here do it? I would assume as our species evolved we ate several thousand insects every year. Isn't this an important protein we are leaving out of are diet?

General Discussion / Anyone else have gum pain?
« on: April 30, 2010, 12:34:15 pm »
I find that when I get a cut of beef that is really stringy and not tender the meat somehow hurts my gums. Anyone else? Is it because I have week gums from a SAD diet? The pain is mostly in the back teeth.

General Discussion / Getting sick of food part of our evolution
« on: April 30, 2010, 06:11:52 am »
I just recently started eating other raw animal products as I am starting to get sick of just eating beef. It occured to me, do our bodies purposely get sick of foods after you eat only one type of food because your body wants a larger array of nutrients from foods?

General Discussion / My friend is interested in paleo...
« on: April 25, 2010, 03:42:06 pm »
My friend questioned me on my diet a while ago and is interested in paleo but not raw paleo. I realize that going paleo will definately be good for his health but will he even detox from this? Is it even safe with all the oxidized fat?
thanks

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Veggies over fruits?
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:58:47 pm »
I was reading up on some of the ideals behind the paleo diet and found a site that said we ate more vegetables than fruit back in the day? Is this true? I kind of get the sense that most members believe in eating more fruit than veggies?
Any thoughts?

This always bothered me when it came to the whole vegan vs meat eaters debate. Vegans always say that we have a longer intestine length which is closer to that of herbivores, while carnivores have shorter intestine lengths. Apparently herbivores need them to be longer because it takes a long time to fully extract the nutrients from plants. But if thats true than why does it take longer to digest meat than it does fruits or vegetables?
Just wondering if this makes sense to somebody?

General Discussion / A question on salt
« on: April 18, 2010, 02:32:00 pm »
My friend (a healthy SAD dieter) goes to a trainer and regularly cramps often. Apparently according to his trainer its do to low sodium intake. This made me think how are we able to maintain sodium levels on our diet? I know that when we sweat we lose quite a bit of salt. So just wondering how does this work? Is it low sodium intake or mineral imbalance or something else?

General Discussion / My latest predicament...
« on: April 17, 2010, 05:04:27 pm »
Although my new raw paleo diet is doing great im having problems getting enough animal and saturated fats. I have been eating marrow but the co-op i buy it from only meets once a month. Besides that I have no grass fed fat I can get regularly. The grass fed beef from whole foods is very lean which is the only meat I can buy regularly. So I was wondering are there any substitutes? I can't eat butter or dairy. The only other animal fat I can get is eggs and some wild caught fish but I don't think thats enough. I can get coconuts which is probably a decent substitute due to its saturated fat but I was wondering are there other sources of saturated fats I'm not thinking of?
thanks

Hot Topics / Liquid Smoke?
« on: April 12, 2010, 12:51:38 pm »
Hi
As mentioned earlier I dont like the taste of raw beef. So instead I make jerky and so far ive just dehydrated plain beef. However I found an online recipe for soy free basically raw jerky seasoning. The only ingrediant in question is liquid smoke. I know its not raw. Its basically liquidized smoke. Is it dangerous? Should I avoid it for some reason?
thanks

Hi the chicken available to me is organic pasture fed...does this mean grass-fed? Are they interchangeable? Also I can get beef short ribs for $3.50 American per lb. This is really cheap. Is most of it bone? Is there marrow inside? Is it tasty and fatty?
thanks

Hi
Im currently in an argument with a vegan friend of mine. He is convinced that your body could not survive without 45g of sugar a day. Does anyone know of some articles that explains that your body converts protein and fat into glucose?

Hi,
I use to be a raw vegan and do still read some of the posts on the raw vegan forums for laughs. But every single post had somebody freaking out and just getting really angry for no reason. Is this becuase of a nutrient defficiency or something?

Does anyone know the evolutionary reason for pink lips and why lips have different skin properties than the rest of your skin?

General Discussion / Should i mix my jerky with marrow?
« on: April 01, 2010, 07:18:09 pm »
Unfortunately as stated in earlier posts, i do not like the taste of raw red meat. Instead I dehydrate lean red meat at about 90 degrees F. Would it be more beneficial to eat the jerky alone and then later eat marrow or should i eat them at the same time? I realize very few people probably have any experience on this subject so any experiences would be great and any thoughts would also be appreciated.
thanks

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Is exercise useless???
« on: March 31, 2010, 06:33:52 pm »
Hey just wondering...On a SAD diet exercise is essential. It burns off all of that unhealthy fat accumulated in your body and your body detoxs through sweating. But when on a raw paleo diet essentially your toxin load is minimal to none. So is there any reason to exercise unless you want to be fit? In all reality aren't you just breaking down your body which in turn your body must stress itself to repair. Not only that but free radicals are created. Any thoughts on this? Is there something im missing?
thanks

General Discussion / Are we somewhat crippled as human beings?
« on: March 28, 2010, 07:14:59 pm »
Hey even though on raw paleo diets we are better off than the general population in terms of health but because our mothers didn't eat raw paleo when we were born and we didn't eat it as kid does this mean we are not healthy as we should be. I read somewhere that a couple of thousands of years ago human beings simply got smaller...including our brains getting smaller and other health issues?
