If you aren't trying to stick to some zero carb plan then add in vegetables and fruits??  Both are pretty good sources of mag and calcium

I don't remember where someone posted the phytoestrogen content of various foods, but does fruit contain a significant quantity of them(as well as nuts/needs)?

The highest fruits had like 300mcg per 100g, that was dried fruit tho.  Most the fresh fruit was around the 50mcg range, watermelon is 2.9mcg

@82Bdog Eliminate all the domesticated genetically modified fruit you eat and tell me what you find in the wild? Go into the wild and expect to eat a bunch of gmo bananas? Fruit is seasonal, wild bananas have large seeds etc. This fruit paradise you want to believe is only possible through shipping, fruit farms, selective breeding and scientist.

There is no such thing as gmo bananas, the only fruit that are GMO are Hawaiian papayas.  Great points otherwise.

I don't get how vegans/raw foodist/fruitarians can act like fruit and other produce equivalent to our modern crops can be found in the wild.  Its just not reality.  They need to be stranded in the wild maybe then they'll realize animal foods are the easiest to obtain in nature.

Good point about the hunting miles, persistent hunting FTW

Vegetarians lie :)

Eating vegetarian does make your stomach secrete less acid so your stomach will be less acidic, this is not a good thing tho(imo)

male drive to succeed and accomplish is diminishing

I felt my male drive diminishing on a vegan diet after being on it for approximately 2 years.  I didn't know how to explain but I felt different wanting to do things but not having much drive and at the time I never connected the vegan aspect.  The first morning after I ate meat I literally jumped up out of bed ready to go for "the hunt".

Good thing I got out before any serious deficiencies manifested :P

The raw (not cultured) butter I received smells strange and cheesy, is it possible that it's rancid?

All butter has natural culture in it.  Once it starts to ferment it goes from being cheesy to blue cheesy.  I don't enjoy the taste of butter when it gets to this stage but it probably isn't bad.

Seeds don't really seem like human food and usually seeds have more anti nutrient type substances then nuts(I think?).

Can we see some literature on this whole enzymatically correct theory??  Why could I not eat watermelon then eat meat 15 minutes later?

If you think so, then again just dilute some sugar with water and drink for your easily digesting post workout carb meal.

You say I have faulty logic but keep referring back to this comment, as if sugar water equals watermelon.  So lets get down to the real debate, what makes blueberries better then watermelon?  You realize the water content of melon makes it one of the hardest fruit to over eat?? It would be much easier to over eat on berries seeing how you get the same amount of calories from half the weight.

If watermelon is easily digested it makes it harder to control hunger for most which will likely cause watermelon to be overeaten in the real world.

Who uses watermelon to control hunger?? 200 calories of berries will control hunger better then 200 calories of melon? Not imo.  If your interested in controlling hunger eat more fat :)

I don't know one indigenous tribe that eats watermelon but nearly all of them eat berries.

Watermelon is indigenous to south america, where humans evovled.  It was no doubt apart of the human diet at some point in the paleo era.  It was probably used as its used today in africa as a source of clean water.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citron_melon

Kung eat cooked melon,
The melons and roots are more usually eaten cooked.

This is getting way off topic to the OP and is just a pointless argument over nothing that actually matters.

I agree, don't know why you initiated it and I still don't get your point.  Is there some mystery factor to watermelon that makes it more harmful then berries?

A higher water to sugar ratio would be better, no?  I don't get what your trying to say

Most of us eat by calories and satisfaction of hunger

I would hope so, lets compare watermelon and blueberries by calories,

blueberries(393g) 200calories, 54g carbs

Watermelon(668g) 200 calories, 50.4g carbs.

So you get to eat more watermelon, get less sugar and more nutrition.  If your eating by hunger watermelon seems like a better option?  Granted blueberries have a tiny bit more fiber but this may actually be a detriment like you stated.

As for your argument about glycemic index, glycemix index is just the measurement of how fast a carbohydrate source digest.  I dunno about you but fast digesting carbohydrates are what I'm looking for, I don't want food sticking around inside me and taking too long to digest.  The only time carbs should really come into play should be after a workout imo and the main goal for post workout nutrition is to get the most fast digesting carbs and proteins available for muscle recovery.

I don't get how my labeling of someones comment as ridiculous is an insult, especially when you look at in context of his post.

FYI my post is my experience, if you can't tolerate watermelon then ignore my post?  The OP specifically asked about this fruit tho indicating he can tolerate it.  I'm not telling anyone they have to eat watermelon :)

Sorry if the comment offended you paleo donk but its true, watermelon isn't high as hell in sugar(atleast compared to fruits that are).  If you don't tolerate watermelon I have a simple solution, don't eat it.  Glycemic index is flawed, its all about glycemic load.

Per 100g blueberries contain 84.2g of water and 14.5g sugar, watermelon is 91.4 and 7.6.  6 more grams of water isn't gonna make a huge difference(is it?)

No need to feel insulted.

By the way this comment,
Whenever I consume watermelon it is usually in much, much greater quantity (by weight) than blueberries
has no bearing on the sugar content of watermelon, I don't know why you would have to consume it in much greater quantities?

Why not do this and drop a vitamin C tab in it and just never eat fruit to begin with?

Because fruit is much more then just sugar, water, vitamin c?? :)

Watermelon is the worst.High like hell in sugar and you can't eat anything else with it.

Watermelon is one of the most low sugar sweet fruits, 7.6g carbs per 100g vs. tomatoes which are 3.5g/100g.  Watermelon taste a hundred times better then tomatoes so therefore watermelon wins :)

Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous your comment is, blueberries contain 14.5g carbs/100g, would you classify blueberries as being high like hell in sugar???

@op I would choose watermelon as this is the easiest fruit to get ripe, has pretty much the same or less sugar content then berries and watermelons are one of the best tasting fruits around.

140
I would eat some of it in the morning along with a couple pieces of fruit if possible and eat the bulk at night.  This most closely mimics a hunter gatherer feeding schedule imo

141
I've gained  the leanest, real muscle on ZC. If I were trying to put on more muscle and wanted to stay ZC/VLC, I would drink raw milk mixed with organic, low carb whey or casein. I don't care if it isn't Paleo, at least it is not grains, starches, fruit or vegetables. And just to up calories for a bit.

Sounds like a eating disorder to me

142
There is another option -- fresh raw milk. If you're not allergic to it, then it's probably going to be much healthier for you than cooked starch. It contains no fructose, and since the carbs are balanced with fat and protein, they won't spike insulin as much as fruit/honey/starch.

Then you have to deal with the problems of dairy which are far worse then moderate amounts of fruit sugar(imo).

Another tip that can help if your intolerant to carbs, only eat them after a workout or physical exercise.  This should help

143
Most fruits, just like the vegetables, contain hefty amounts of antinutrients. This FAQ covers the most common ones, such as oxalates, goitrogenic substances, allergens, purines , pesticide residues, and nightshades.

Certain fruits contain oxalates probably in small quantities as oxalate is most concentrated in leaves/stems.  If your afraid of the insignificant amount in berries and certain fruits then avoid those fruits.  I would probably avoid the oxalate containing fruits anyways because there pretty acid when under ripe which most will be if store bought

Buckwheat is neither grain nor seed. Its a starchy fruit believe it or not.

Buckwheat is a seed, at least the part you eat is.  Its a fruit in the sense that nut is a fruit but its a seed

But ZC, VLC, and LC don't work for everyone. The least toxic carb, the unheated honey, contains 50% of fructose.

Then eat honey?  Are you afraid the fructose will kill you?  If you can't tolerate fruits or honey and need carbs I guess your only option is starch

he question remains if SUGAR, even RAW, is superior to COOKED STARCH...

Starch is sugar?  It doesn't matter if you eat buckwheat, potatoes, candy bars or fruit its all gonna be turned into the same thing in your body for the most part.

144
So yes, you should have checked the nutrients, antinutrients/toxins, and fructose levels before posting this.

Fruits don't contain anti nutrients(buckwheat does), the nutrition of most fruits is superior to buckwheat and more suited towards human physiology.  Why would fructose levels matter?  Fructose is fruit sugar, nothing bad with the unrefined amount in fruits.

Explain to us how fruit is not superior to buckwheat please

lets not forget buckwheat is a seed, i.e. not paleo.

145
Why do you think that RAW fruits or honey are superior to COOKED starches (i.e. buckwheat)?

Look at the nutrition for 100g of buckwheat then compare it to 100g of any fruit.  That's why fruit is superior, honeys superior imo because its more paleo and much easier to digest

146
No, it's fermented grains that are better, not refined grains.

Refined grains are easier on digestion as well, the hull is largely indigestible.  Whole grains with a long ferment are probably the best option tho if wheat is added to the diet.

Not sure if they just added this on their website but honey pacifica is heated up to 100 degrees F, so not raw.

How is under 100 degrees not raw?  From my research there honey is as raw as it gets unless you have your own hive or know some one with a hive

Neglected to read the post above, my brother who has talked to these guys extensively assured me the cold packed honey is never heated.

The honeys cheap because these guys are legit and aren't interested in ripping people off.

@KD: n-3 and n-6 PUFAs oxidise very quickly, particularly at our body temperatures...

So all the essential fats running through your body are rancid? lol

How do you come up with this stuff?

PUFA = free radicals, advanced lipid peroxidation end products, greater potential for glycation, anti-mitochondria etc.

You must be referring to oxidized pufa's.  Wheres the literature to back this up?

Why would humans need these liquid fats like cold water marine life or animals entering hibernation? Humans do not require these liquid fats in more than trace amounts...

Omega6/3 make up important parts of our body, you say we need them only in trace amounts what i want to know is how do you come to this conclusion?

n-3 fats are even more prone to lipid peroxidation than n-6 fats...Some people propose that "so-called EFA" deficiency is a very good thing...

These people have no idea what there talking about, if you deprive you body of efa's it will just use inferior oleic acid in place and this is not what you want.

We need omega 3s but most people(including SAD population) are omega 6 deficient. The omega 6 in processed foods is ruined. We need raw omega 6.

This is from a PDF called Optimum PEO Ratio found on brianpeskin.com, it lists all the sources. The ratio is 7 to 1 because our muscles are 6.5 to 1 as you can see from the chart, and our muscles make up half of our weight.

Most nuts and seeds are naturally high in omega 6. In an interview with wild food expert Arthur Haines he states that wild food have a more 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to 6, but I know he is not referring to nuts and seeds.

In a lecture by Rick Dina he says we shouldn't go over 1:4 because the enzymes work on the same EFA(parent omega 3[ALA] & 6[LA]) and if we go over 1 parts ALA to 4 parts LA we cannot make the EFA derivatives like DHA and EPA. I think this is also incorrect because this is based on the theory that omega 3s should convert to as much derivatives as we think we need, making this assumption studies say we are inefficient at converting ALA to derivatives like EPA and DHA.
