Nudism

I wish I could just walk around naked sometimes. We are born without cloths. Anybody else feel suppressed by modern day culture?

I always wondered when this topic would eventually come up!

I hate wearing heaps of clothes and feel trapped.

I  don't wear a shirt and just get around with just shorts and bare feet or flip flops(thongs in Australia) for most of the year even doing the shopping/banking but I do live by the beach so its not too unusual.

I've never done the nudist thing around other people but swum  nude on isolated  beaches before and feels pretty good!

Andrew

Ps this isn't exactly off topic you can't get anymore paleo than walking around naked!

Its funny I walked to the shops with bare feet while visiting family in the UK a few summers ago, people were staring at me it took me a while to work out why.

Yeah, your allowed to and a lot of people don't wear shoes going to the shops/buying fuel/bank/cinema/catching the bus  etc When I was at school all our running was done barefoot although this may of changed. You would have to come here to understand!

Finally someone feels the same way. I get around with just shorts and no shirt, but tuck a beater in my trunks just in case I enter a store.

I like swimming nude, but have only done so in very isolated beaches when there was no one else around. In Germany and Austria, nudity is a very big thing with much of the population being in favour, so I guess I grew up with that culture.

As a kid, in Illinois, only scurvy people went barefoot. I was told constantly by my parents to wear shoes. When we moved to Florida, everyone went barefooted. Especially along the coast, one could go barefooted and shirtless (males only) into a convenience store, gas station,  or even a waterfront restaurant so long as it was on a deck or outside patio.

I've never felt comfortable totally naked in public though. I have skinny dipped at night and it did have a freeing feeling but that was long ago at night when you couldn't be seen.

This is my opinion on this topic.... :)

Humans have first used cloths for one main purpose, for its effectiveness in harsh external enviroments. Then later humans have made and designed clothing for culture or traditional reasons. Many humans now are turned on by the meer sight of human genetles, buttocks, or breast. It is not like this everywhere, but this cultural idea is spreading and has dominated human minds. I however dislike this cultural perception. I believe if its warm enough to be naked, be naked. If its cold, wear cloths. I simply use cloths for its effectiveness and nothing more. Some cultural uses of cloths have lead to the seperation of mankind. People reside in certain cultural groups and dislike other groups, and each group represents itself wth the kind of cloths they wear. Such thoughts and practices are foolish in my opinion and limitate human beings. Cloths are cloths, use them for their effectiveness. The cloths we wear over our bodies are now forbidden or not allowed to be taken off in public. If you don't comply or follow the rules you will be punished or acted apon in a manner you might not like. (nudist colonies are exceptions and tribal areas too). I know most people want to wear cloths when their bodies are feeling cold, but when your body is feeling hot; Why wear cloths? A body is just a body, a penis is just a penis, and a virgina is just a virgina etc. I dislike the inforcement of cloth wearing that occurs in some areas on earth. I dislike how some are turned on sexually by mear body parts and care less how the individual is mentally. I once followed and was blinded by these what I now currently call supressive cultures or beliefs of some humans. They are stupid (i dislike them).

A virginia is just a virginia  :D sorry, that was funny.

I run barefoot now, and people always give me weird looks. Being barefoot is not strange; being required to wear clothing and shoes is. I'm really getting tired of being told it's bad for my joints, or I'm going to step on a piece of glass and regret it.

My biggest annoyance is not being able to take my shirt off, because I'm in a female body. Big, bloody deal. They're breasts, who cares? If males can be obese and unhealthy, resulting in a store fat in that area, but run around half-nude, then so can females. If you saw breasts all the time, it would be just like seeing any other part of the body, and maybe we wouldn't be breeding a culture full of women insecure about their breast shape and size.

Maybe I'm just more peeved, because I'm somewhat transsexual; but I don't appreciate having to feel trapped and uncomfortable and hot, because it's been made illegal to take off your shirt if you have two X-chromosomes. What on earth is the difference between a female chest and an unhealthy, obese male chest?

In the UK, there are, unfortunately, a lot of prudes, both male and female, who frown heavily on young men baring their upper bodies. The result is that I only ever see bare-chested males either at the beach, or if in London, only when the temperatures become almost subtropical in August.

I was told by my parents that it was common for them in the mid-20th century  to see local women in Southeastern Asia  with their upper bodies completely naked and just wearing a grass-skirt, so as to cool themselves down. The trouble was that, with the era of holiday-flights from the 1960s onwards, Westerners came and gawped at the local women because they weren't used to it,  and so the poor women had to cover up their upper bodies and sweat like pigs in the local buses etc. Same sort of thing occurs in the Middle-East, of course, where the sight of a female ankle in some areas can cause so much male excitement that foreign female tourists are well-advised to cover themselves up in almost burqa-like fashion.

Well, it's certainly a lot worse on the joints for women wearing high-heels.

Well, to be fair, women, nowadays, have a great deal of leeway as regards being able to wear very scanty, cool  clothing to the office in high summer - whereas men are still expected in many areas to wear the old shirt and tie, with rolled-up sleeves and male shorts being frowned upon etc.

That's very true, and that isn't fair either. The whole thing is just rather ridiculous.

I remember watching an episode of Sally Jesse Raphael way back when. A man had had breast implants as a dare. I believe he had to have them in for a year or so to collect the money. They showed him shirtless but they blurred out his breasts. They don't do this with naturally big-boobed men though.

I'm sort of surprised because I live and work in a touristy environment and the female Europeans, even British Europeans, have had to be told that they can't go topless on our beaches. It is against the law. They seem surprised. Also young European men are about the only men you'll see wearing speedos to the beach. Elderly American men seem to have no qualms about it though! What a sight THAT can be!  :o The younger American males, teens and early twenties, might wear the standard trunks but so loose as to let their cracks show. But they wouldn't be caught dead wearing speedos.

Unfortunately, yes.  ;D  Here in Florida, we have a large retirement population. The older women seem to prefer super padded tops. What a dichotomy.

Where are you in the US?

Continental Europe has a tradition of toplessness and nudism. The UK doesn't really. The only exception is on the beach where UKers can wear the skimpiest things(as long as the lower private parts are covered). But going around bare-chested as a man when you're more than a mile away from the beach is frowned upon heavily.

Colorado, the only beaches I've been to are lakes and Water World :P And despite the state having the lowest obesity percentage, it's still not something I wanna go to frequently.

But at least I've never seen someone in a speedo, let alone the elderly.

I carry my sandals around too.

Anyone ever wear waraji? I'm making a pair for a cosplay at NDK (or I'm going to try, we'll see how much it fails. I'm an anime geek :-X), and I'm curious to see how walking in them is.

waraji... is that like just straps that your wear on your feet that still allow you to be barefoot on your heel and balls of your feet?

I was looking at those type of sandals but they seemed a little small and girlish. I have a pair of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geta_%28footwear%29

I think you can pretty much wear them however you want. I believe they're traditionally worn with two straps that wrap around the ankle, the pair of straps in front like a "thong", and the bottom ending just before the toes, so the toes are free; but I'm not positive.

You could adjust them so the toes aren't free and probably make them without the ankle straps. They used to be the standard, but they're mostly just worn by monks now.

http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=69336

That's the tutorial I'm using for the cosplay--haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how great it is.

http://www.karankoron.com/waraji.html

That has images and you can get them on there, although they're pretty expensive, which is why I'm trying to make my own.
