« on: January 13, 2010, 04:37:01 am »
Any fellow Singaporeans or recent tourists know? :( I have not had raw animal organs before.

P.S I finished a T bone steak, pretty sweet, what do I do with the bone? Use it as a weapon?  >D

Another question, can I consume fishes from fisheries? I have this website and I'm interested in ordering my salmon and Organic Tasmanian Blue Mussels from them and possibly, others, I prefer to have more choices of fishes to chow on.

Any farmed fishes are very likely to be raised on an artificial diet, most likely corn & grains, so do so at your own risk. Some feel it doesn't matter and some are adamantly against it. I personally don't advise it.

By all means give it a shot if it's the best you can do right now. Just beware that it's possible your body won't like it. Start with a small order. :)

Raw corn fed meat tastes bad, in my experience.  I wouldn't advise it either.  Poor fish being raised with corn food.  Yes some fish like vegetables, but corn?  That's sick.  Corn never grows in the water.

The egg thing is pretty much a myth.  I feel better when I don't avoid eating (raw) eggs.  Eating raw eggs gives me energy and wakes me up, any time.  Fertile is better, but maybe just better for the chickens.  I've eaten unfertile eggs and it's still good for my health, even if not as much.

If you must have farmed raw seafood, stick exclusively to farmed shellfish, especially bivavles like oysters or mussels. The bivalves are usually just left on the seabed and soak in nutrients from the surrounding water, so aren't fed by humans. That said, all the farmed shellfish I've come across in fishmongers/supermarkets simply don't compare in terms of taste/nutrients re wildcaught seafood.

The substance you're referring to is avidin which is hevaily reduced in a fertilised raw egg.

Incidentally, avoid suhi-grade fish. I've heard that sushi-grade raw seafood is way overpriced. Just buy standard wildcaught fish instead.

Just got this email. WOO!!!!!!!!!! IT IS ON!

Hi Dwight,

Thank you for your email. Our Tasmanian Salmon is sashimi grade and can be eaten raw. While our other fish are extremely fresh & well handled, I can not give 100% guarantee regarding them being sashimi grade. The majority of our fish are wild, except for our salmon & barramundi.

If there is anything further you require, please let me know.

Cheers,

Kellie Webster
