I have only tried a live ant and ant eggs.. oh.. eggs! They are often "alive" when you eat them

at least when from hens that have a rooster walking around....
so how do we define alive..hmmm.. raw foods are pretty much full of bacteria and viruses and they are very much alive

Its ironic to point out to people who think eating live octopus is cruel....that octopus are also raw carnivores which eat their prey alive....also their natural predators in turn will eat them alive...its all part of the circle of carnage, sentimentally called life.

According to logic it would seem reasonable that Living foods could be better in some ways than dead foods, especially animals which are drained of all their vital fluids, had all their organs removed, are wrapped in plastic and refrigerated for long periods of time before consuming. What other apex predatory creatures kills its prey(Humanly) and waits until its its long dead to begin eating?

well.... some carnivores let their pray rot and ferment before they eat it, because they digest it better that way.

I think aged meat tastes better than fresh...kinda... both are good, but I feel great about aged too. Maybe humans can eat alive, fresh, aged.. anything... we are amazing

You're sure? I thought they still lived after the shell was opened. After all, all opening the shell does is break some muscles or something?

They die when you cut the muscle that keeps the shell tight... no way to open it up without doing that... so yeah I am pretty sure they are dead as you eat them

The Oysters I get usually have been frozen and thawed, so I think they are dead.... but the ones plucked out of the sea and cracked open while fresh are alive....until they are devoured by Inger.

They go catatonic and seem dead after opening, but you can use lemon juice to test if they are still alive.

PROPOSALS for how to declare time of oyster death:

Oysters have little beating hearts. You could hook them up to an electrocardiogram and determine how long it takes their hearts to stop beating. Cutting the muscle doesn't stop the heart instantaneously.

The nervous system of an oyster is nothing more than a bunch of nerves - no central brain. Using your myoelectric electrode, you could find the exact moment that the nerves cease firing.

Using a simple microscope, you can look for the moment that the cilia stop moving for an approximation of the time of death, but that won't be so accurate because the central functions persist due to the conservation of core functions, even after the terminal functions are dead. At best, the microscope method determines when the oyster has entered a "coma" - but the word coma is not accurate, since it implies that oysters possess a state of consciousness. I prefer to think that oysters are blissfully unaware.

At any rate, this is an important question, worthy of a Nobel prize, at least.

Given that oysters don't really have a brain and the fact that I sometimes eat my raw oysters within 5-10 seconds of opening the shell, I think I can safely state that I eat them when they are still alive.

One of the things I loathe about "Western" societies is the vast amount of useless ethnic restaurants and fast-food outlets on most residential streets, invariably offering substandard food. Why on earth isn't there a Japanese Sashimi restaurant in Vienna like there are in London? All we have are substandard sushi outlets, nothing like the high quality found in Japan. And if we have to have Korean restaurants why on earth cannot I eat live octopi in them? All these Korean restaurants have here is the opportunity to cook your own food in an electric pan on your own table(RVAFers like me just pretend to cook but eat the food raw anyway).

Well the Kentucky wildcats are playing right now vs the Vanderbilt live octopus'. Personally I am rooting for the wildcats because I prefer the flavor of wildcats vs octopus.

Some of the raw oysters we shell are still alive, breathing / moving regularly upon eating.

Pet owners are known to have tried eating live super worms just to taste them.

I know the video was supposed to funny, but I don't think we should shame people for trying to eat healthy considering that 1/3 Americans are obese and have numerous other health issues.
