Ammunition in wild meats!?
« on: May 27, 2011, 03:44:18 pm »
Hi,

what do you do with ammunition in wild meats? They usually contain lead!

Is it sufficient to cut out only a small part of the meat around the ammunition particles?

I usually find lead shot pellets as soon as I start chewing, and always manage to spit them out without swallowing them.

Some people claim that lead shot pellets contaminate large areas of the meat with lead, with consequences for our health.

But I guess that you are not remotely afraid of possible toxins, as always.  :D

Of course not, I have not suffered from symptoms of  lead-poisoning or whatever, so I know I'm fine.

pellets are used for very small game such as rabbits or turkeys.  larger animals are usually taken down with a single bullet or shotgun slug and stay intact most of the time.  i simply cut out everything along the bullet path because flesh is all destroyed and mushy.

there are also steel pellets available but they are a bit more pricey.  if you hunt yourself you can use steel shots and don't worry about lead.

Yes, I will definitely do this, when I have my own hunting licence...

I have read that Canada and some other countries have forbidden all ammunition with lead.
