Raw paleo diet in Germany
« on: May 30, 2011, 02:04:19 am »
I live in Germany but I'm not German and don't know the language that well, so I'd be very thankful for any help from Germans here on the board.

I want to get good quality meat and especially animal fat, but I have absolutely no clue how to ask for the pastured, grass-fed stuff or where should I look for them here :/
Are the local farmer markets a good option? Or rather some supermarkets? Or something third?

Löwenherz may have some ideas. I find that, in Austria, one just has to look aroud for shops/Wholesalers who specialise in selling only raw wild game. Maybe Germany is the same.

Ok I figured out the language from here: http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/off-topic/different-terms-used-in-other-languages-to-describe-organic-meatsgrassfed-meats/ :)

From there on I found that there's Weidefleisch at the local farmers market close to my place.

Hi!

The german word for "grass fed" is "Weidehaltung". Unfortunately this term became completely useless because nowadays nearly every beef farmer claims that he practises "Weidehaltung" even if the animals get tons of grains beside grass.

The Galloway breed is the most robust cattle in Germany. Try to find Galloway breeders. Chances are high that these animals are really grass fed.

Here is a list for all states:

Wild game meat is always the best option, IMO.
Here is a database with hunters who are willing to sell meat to consumers:

Best wishes

Löwenherz

Thanks a lot Löwenherz!

I found this: http://www.cuxland-pur.de/

It seems to be the best around here, and I've noticed the Galloway word a few times on the website.

I'll check out the wild game meat website!
