Interesting Palaeo article re human brain
« on: June 08, 2012, 08:48:41 am »
Just read a 3-page essay suggesting alternatives to the notion that the decrease in human brain-size in the last 20,000 years was due to changes in the diet to a Neolithic one. Personally, the only one that makes sense to me is the Idiocracy claim since the increase in brain-size has happened at a faster rate than the decrease in body size. Wrangham's  claim re dogs/wolves seems bunk since wolves have been shown to be far more intelligent than domesticated dogs in IQ tests(as opposed to training tests):-

If the Idiocracy theory is right, expect some very moronic humans in 20,000 years time.

“The story written in our bones is that we look more and more peaceful over the last 50,000 years,” Wrangham says. And that is not all. If he is correct, domestication has also transformed our cognitive style. His hunch is based on studies—many done by his former graduate student Brian Hare—comparing domestic animals with their wild relatives. The good news, Wrangham says, is that “you can’t speak of one group being more intelligent than the other.”

Yes the system is built on domestication and limitation with the law however the majority aren't peaceful; they are repressed which leads to many rebelling in negative ways.. drinking, drugs, clubs, etc... to gain freedom but that isn't freedom.

Normal people that follow in an individual line like mice are domesticated.

Eccentrics aren't domesticated.
