Help me get my fats straight!
« on: May 07, 2013, 09:54:16 am »
Hi everyone,

Let me introduce myself just to give some context to my question: I'm a 23 years old male living in Mexico City, I've been "cornered" (thankfully) into a primal diet by health issues and I'm beginning too feel much better every day ( although being a bit misunderstood by relatives  -\ ).

Well, after reading Aajonus work, there's some stuff I ponder about:

a) AV separates fats into two kinds mostly, into healing fats and health stabilizing fats. For example, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, eggs are healing fats; and dairy, animal fats, and coconut cream are health stabilizing fats.  Since right now I'm mostly consuming healing fats, I wanted to ask what's really the difference, aren't this getting turned into calories?

b) Now, the main reason I'm not consuming much health stabilizing fats is because

-Unpasteurized dairy is illegal in Mexico City

-Coconut cream takes much time to make ( don't have a juicer!)

- Animal fats. Well, it's difficult now to find organic meat. Organic grass fed beef is too expensive, as well as most fish, oysters and lamb. I mostly have access to good rabbit, chicken, turkey and pork. But aren't fowl and pork sort of frowned upon even here? And I don't want to rabbit starve!

So my question is, is it okay to eat inorganic animal fats? I know AV says lean meat is OK, but fat? I'm asking because he says toxins mostly store in fat and organs. But since fats also remove it....

Anyways, thanks for the time!

Aajonus' list is pretty random.  Avocado isn't a healing fat, in my opinion, and many animal fats can be very healing. But whatever.

As far as animals go, everything depends on what the animal was eating.  Grain-fed animals are generally not worth eating. You really need to ensure that you're not eating grain-fed meat, if you want to really heal yourself.  Organic versus non-organic is not that big of a deal, unless the animals are being given hormones and antibiotics.

Thanks for the repply!

I was asking becouse it was getting really difficult getting raw grass fed fat. I have been eating 3 to 5 avocados daily to compensate,  but today I magically found some best quality organic grass fed beef fat cuts! Doesn't look like i'll be rabbit starving soon with 3kgs of it in my kitchen  :D

"Organic" is not nearly as important as grass-fed.

grain fed poultry is fine as long as its organic. Eating organic grain fed muscle meats of any kind is actually not that big of a deal once in a while.

I even accidentally ate an entire chicken (no organs) that was fed some gm corn and soy and felt thoroughly great although i wouldn`t do it again. Didn`t find out about the gm till later. Apparently the muscle meat of less healthy animals is alright but the organs and marrow should only be eaten from very healthy animals

Utter rubbish. I have eaten organic  grainfed chicken, especially in my first year on RVAF diets and it was a disaster, healthwise.

I love animal fats. I actually don't really eat much plant fat at all. RARELY I'll eat a brazil nut or an avocado.

I eat about half a pound of beef fat daily. Plus the fat in the fatty cuts I eat. Plus eggs. I'd do marrow too if I could get it unfrozen at a decent price.

Plant fats typically aren't good for all the time since their omega 3:6 ratio is off. I made a thread on that a while back if you're interested.

its a fact. I ate the non organic chickens muscle meat and felt great in fact had no bad symptoms even though im very sensitive. I eat organic grain fed chicken (no soy) periodically with no problems whatsoever.

the problem with most organic grain fed chicken is that they are fed on a diet consisting almost exclusively of soy(which has to be cooked). If you want to eat organic chicken make sure it was not fed any soy and that it is free range.

organic chicken supplemented with organic raw corn has never given me any problems.

but im sure your experience is valid as well although id check to see if the organic chicken you had was soy chicken like almost all of the organic chicken on the market or not.

those organic chickens are also genetic beasts, they are only 6 weeks old, Cornish hens,........at 6 weeks a normal bird is sooo tiny still, barely a chicken nugget!  they also salt brine the birds to make them more palateable.....at least the larger organic "free range" brands in the states.

I recall that the organic chicken I ate did not have soy  as a mainstay, just a 100% vegetarian diet of corn etc.

There's no way I'd eat raw chicken, unless I was absolutely sure that it ate relatively little grains/soy/etc.. I've gotten food poisoning from improperly-cooked grainfed chicken before.  There's no telling how much worse it would be if I ate it raw.

I ate uncleaned chicken eggs from the healthiest chickens anywhere (Miller's Organic farm). Raging diarrhea for a week. I'm done with any raw chicken besides eggs.

when opening an egg, if suspicious,  have a trickle of hot running water going, crack egg, rinse the fingers of one hand, shift yolk into that hand, and now rinse the other hands fingers.   separate yolk.

I have never cleaned an egg and cracked some shitty eggs and never been sick.  I always crack them and separate with my hands that are not super clean, maybe just handled chickens or reached under a chicken to get an egg.  Do you guys live in cities?  Or are often in sterile (meaning lacking lots of good natural bacteria ) environments?

in my avatar I am carrying a chicken on the left, I probably ate yolks with those hands

I've eaten some pretty questionable eggs before and never felt bad.

I've also eaten plenty of organic corn fed chicken free range and never gotten sick. I've also eaten a gmo-fed chicken's muscle meat one time raw and didn't get sick at all. Although it was fed gmo it was raised outdoors and got to eat plenty of worms and such as well. Definitely not living in its own filth with a million other chickens swimming in shit. I'm sure that probably would have gotten me sick.

That's not surprising.  GMO food is not a death sentence, especially in relatively small amounts.  If the chicken could eat worms and roam some ground, it probably was actually fairly healthy.

Dude, I'm not really sure Miller's really feeds their animals all that well.  I've bought some pork liver from there that looked pretty questionable.

What did it look like?

I'm pretty sold on the quality of their food. The beef fat I get from them is such a dark yellow it's ridiculous.

I've talked to them about the quality of their eggs. They said they get fed a little bit of organic corn, and soaked oats. They spend time on a field eating bugs, grass, etc. And they also feed them left over food. What Ben (I think Ben) told me was when there's some part of the cow that's no good to sell or eat, they leave it outside for flies to leave their eggs and grow maggots. Then they feed that to the chickens and they really go at it.

I've drank their raw milk too and I loved it. Their raw honey was also the best I've ever had (many times better than the one from WF).

I think pork is just one of those foods you'll never find that's that incredible. I mean, their pork is fed raw milk that's had the cream removed, whey, and I think some soaked oats. That's gotta be a million times better than anywhere else.

There were weird streaks of off-colorness in the liver.  I wonder if the pigs' diet is too high in protein.  Whey is almost nothing but protein.

It's possible. There's also not a whole lot of fat in the raw milk without the cream.

i wouldnt swear off eggs if I were you. Its one of the most important foods.

It digests in under 30 minutes. next fastest digesting food is milk which takes at least 6 hours i think but it might be more
