General Discussion / What Happens to Dried Fat?
« on: February 26, 2013, 11:39:37 am »
When you dry fatty meat, like ground beef. Around 85/15 ratio. What happens to the fat? I dried grass fed ground like that many times. I remember hearing the fat oxidizes? What does that  mean? Further explanation please!

How many estimated grams of carbs must you stay under, for your body to switch to an alternative fuel? If I remember, it was 25g right?
I am pretty sure this was answered quite a few times.

He makes his clients train in outdoors anywhere. Hew only lets them have fish, water and salad. that's pretty close to the paleo diet. But I love the show. He is from Cuba, and is a personal trainer.

General Discussion / Jackfruit and Goat Meat
« on: October 20, 2011, 01:45:40 pm »
Saw it frozen at the Asian store. Never tried it so I gave it a go, along with some goat meat I never tried. The goat meat was good. Had some skin on it, lots of bones. The Jackfruit was ok. I am not the biggest fan of it though. I like durian much more. I don't think I would ever buy it again besides that first try. Def has a strong stop signal with me. I guess that's good. I know some people boil it. Not sure If my frozen one was boiled or raw.

Anyone have some experience to share on these two foods I tried?
The goat reminded me of Mutton,, adult sheep. Gamy goodness

Yon Yonson and I are working on a grass fed farm together in Oregon. We are eating plenty of sheep and beef from the farm here.
Yesterday we bought a local live dungenous crab and killed and ate it. Wild albacore tuna is amazing here.
I will post more videos of the daily work we do like feeding hey etc.
We also rigged up a dehydrating system in our room with strings and a heater.

Off Topic / Your Top 10 Worst fruit
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:41:54 am »
I thought this was somewhat off topic maybe.

Make a list of the 10 worst fruit in your opinion. Or fruit you could do without. 1 being the worst.
Just go by instinct. Inclides domesticated fruit, organic, and wild.

Only considering the fruit eatin alone and whole. Imagine the last fruit you would buy if you had a choice of any.
Based on taste and natural instinct.

10. Pomegranate
9. Watermelon
8. non-organic Bananas
7. Wild Grape
6. Pineapple
5. Black Seedless Grapes (nasty at the store here)
4. All Orange/Tangerine etc. Varietes
3. Lime/Lemon
2. Lemon/Lime
1. Grapefruit

hmm did my best...

Off Topic / Worst Movie I Ever Seen
« on: December 24, 2010, 02:08:24 pm »
SAW 7 (3d) or whatever. Didn't see the 3d version. Been a while since I been to the theatre.

Saw it in the budget theatre. From start to beginning it was just showing torture and killing scenes. I don't get squimish and that just grossed me out. I guess it was nothing but torture scenes for the 3d version to be spiced up. Worst movies I ever saw.

Sometimes I couldn't look at the screen, and I am not squimish. So you know that shit was gross. The guy glued to the car sea was the worst. His skin was ripping off...i don't know. Some sick shit.

General Discussion / Oysters, Good and Bad Ones?
« on: November 08, 2010, 07:16:46 am »
I had some oysters today.

Once before I had an oysters with black spots on the inside. I didn't eat it. Thought it was suspicious.

Today, I had an 4 osyters, 1 was fresh and nice, 2 were diff and tasted like old pond water, the last one was ok but i saw the black spots.

It seems hit or miss sometimes.

Any insight?

Edit: The bad ones tasted almost like clams, like bitter or something. Well not bitter, but that one taste if you know what I mean.

General Discussion / Colors of Meats & Blood vs Meat Juices?
« on: October 21, 2010, 09:08:05 am »
Ok so, is there a difference between blood and meat juices?

Because, a rabbits meat is lighter in color than bison. Why is that? Why does rabbit turn white/light brown when you cook it and bison turns brown?

Is there more blood in bison meat? More veins? I think squirrel turns brown when cooked.

And juice that runs off of the meat is blood I assume, but is not as concentrated as blood gushing from veins?

i remeber on bizarre foods, he had blood with milk with the masai, he said it tsated nutty. Maybe because it was mixed with milk? who knows

Hot Topics / To thrust or To Throw
« on: October 13, 2010, 03:45:17 am »
What was our original tactic for hunting big game such as bison?

Bows only go back so far in history. Spears were obviously the way.

So...

I feel more comfortable thrusting a bigger spear, rather than throwing a smaller spear.

Stalk and thrust feels very good to me.

Both tactics were likely used. I am guessing thrusting a spear was the original method for spearing larger game.

who knows.... Throwing heavy rocks can knock an animal out too

does this belong here? i guess its a hot topic, or off topic...

Off Topic / Chlorine In Water
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:13:43 am »
I went swimming in a hotel with my nephews the other day.

I feel being in water too much is bad in the first place for human health. Add loads of chlorine, even worse.
Felt somewhat sick, for an hour or 2 after.

Aqautic ape theory is way off. I would look like a raisin.

How do some of you feel in ocean water?

I feel good in lakes and rivers. But never been in the ocean, been in the dead sea but that's totally different (which was bad by the way).
