Suggestion Box / A subforum on food production
« on: April 17, 2018, 06:21:45 am »
I was thinking that there should be a forum dedicated to how to best get our food.

It could cover topics such as farming, keeping livestock, hunting wild game, fishing, and gathering wild foods, and how to best accomplish these in accordance with paleo tenets; or how to modify mainstream practices in order to more adequately reflect a paleo lifestyle.

I often find myself wondering about these issues, and I think many of you also have thoughts and questions to share about them. It's hard to know where to put them when there isn't a specific subforum for them, and it's also hard to find the threads using simply the search function.

Despite decades of brainwashing by TV, hollywood, media, commercial ads, think tanks, schools and government agencies, this study finds that people's natural reactions towards interracial couples haven't fundamentally changed, they just pretend to have the politically correct views of the day.

And for some history of how people used to think of this a few decades ago, and openly talked about it, here's a 3 minute video:

Suggestion Box / Controversial topics, regarding recent deleted thread
« on: April 15, 2016, 10:00:38 am »
Why even have a Politics / Spirituality / Philosophy section if controversial topics won't be tolerated?

From my perspective, plenty of controversial topics, and about things that are much more important and have a direct effect on everyday life, are tolerated here.

The only reason I could see to ban this particular topic is because of fear of censorship from some governing body that claimed this site harbored hate speech, or something to that effect. If that's the case I can understand.

Primal Diet / Raw salt-free olives
« on: March 19, 2016, 07:10:51 pm »
Any ideas on how to ripen olives properly and fully without using salt or lye or anything else that's non primal?

At the moment I have three sets that I'm trying to ripen in various ways. One I let stand for a couple days in a closed container retaining the moisture and beginning the ripening process, but took them out because some were getting moldy, and put them in the sun to kill the mold. They turned from green to brown in one day, and then I moved them into the shade with access to plenty of air. Another batch, I put directly into the sun for one day, and then moved them into the shade. Those stayed green. A third batch I put directly in a jar with fresh whey at room temperature. I also put a handful of each of the other two batches in the whey jar at the same time. I think if I get some more, my next experiment will be leaving them in a jar with just plain water. I might also try raw apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice, or some combination of some of these (water, whey, vinegar, lemon juice)

I will report on the progress. So far, the ones that browned are edible, but still somewhat bitter. The other ones are entirely green and pretty much inedible (super bitter).

AV claimed that the best mineral supplement in the world was eating a combination of raw, unsalted cheese and raw unheated honey together.

I was wondering if anybody knew his basis for claiming this.

I know it has something to do with the cheese+honey combination being the only way to digest cheese, which he claimed would otherwise go through the digestive system undigested, merely acting as a sponge for absorbing toxins that the body dumped into the stomach and intestines. Does anyone know his basis for saying this, or what exactly he meant by raw cheese not being digestible when eaten alone?

Suggestion Box / Marketplace
« on: June 03, 2015, 05:51:19 am »
I realize the forum members are distributed all over the world, and most of the products and services that will be of interest to the forum population at large cannot be transported over long distances, but some can, and besides, people like to travel, and it's nice to know where you can find things of interest.

Since many of the things we share an interest for are hard to find, from foods to training/coaching/treatment to work opportunities and employees in similar minded environments, to all sorts of things I can't possibly imagine (but you can), I think it could be a benefit to have a marketplace section. It may help draw more visits here, from other people who are not necessarily into the same types of lifestyles as we are, but may be interested in the high quality products and services that the fine members of this board may have to offer.

And as a plus, the forum mods/owners can make their marketplace threads a sticky so they show at the top of the list :)

Primal Diet / Deep infrared and magnets in Green Star juicers
« on: May 05, 2015, 06:38:46 am »
I know AV recommended the Green Star 1000 juicer for making coconut cream, and I was thinking of getting the Green Star Elite which seems to be an upgraded version of the same juicer.

However I found out about these two technologies that apparently all green star juicers have (not sure about the 1000, it's not clear on their website), which are the magnets and deep infrared that supposedly "stabilize" water molecules and keep the juice fresh for longer, and make it easier to absorb minerals.

It doesn't sound to me like these would make the juice any healthier, and it seems like they would be likely to make it less healthy. The infrared could destroy some nutrients, and the magnets would make minerals like iron less bioavailable, though they claim the opposite is the case, but it doesn't make sense to me why it would be like they say.

What do you guys think? And do you know if AV ever addressed this topic?

General Discussion / Poppy seeds
« on: April 21, 2015, 12:09:15 am »
Does anyone have experience with them or have any recommendations? Are they best soaked, ground or both?

And does anyone know the difference between white and black poppy seeds? Are they different varieties, or are the black ones roasted or fermented?

Science / Conspiracy of science: the Earth is growing
« on: April 14, 2015, 11:06:40 am »
(mods feel free to move if this isn't the correct subforum)

I originally watched this in 2011 and was very interested by it. I still am. I'm really bad with geometry and even worse with geology. But the idea that continents move the way they taught me in school, never made sense to me.

What do you all think? Is this guy on to something?

Neal Adams - Science: 01 - Conspiracy: Earth is Growing!

I can't tell if he's using tricks to make you believe that they fit the way he says. Like I said, I'm really bad with geometry, and big jigsaw puzzles are hard for me. And that's in 2D. In 3D they seem a lot more complex even. Still, a lot of what he says makes sense to me. If you're interested, he has a series of videos, the one on Europa, a moon of Jupiter was particular interesting. And then there was one on our own moon, though the images used were low quality in that one. And the one where he claims to disprove the pangea theory simply by using math, was also very interesting.

I don't know if he's claiming that growth happens by surface area, by volume or by mass, or all of the above. But I think he's not saying that growth happens at a constant rate, or that it's happening right now, just that it happens in some occasions. And I don't know if the ramnifications on science as a whole would be as severe as he claims, but maybe they would be, I don't know.

Primal Diet / Is my raw milk frozen?
« on: April 11, 2015, 06:00:52 am »
When I get it it has all these solid cream globules that won't dissolve easily. Shaking or stirring doesn't dissolve them, blending does. Or I dissolve them using my togue and palate/teeth.

I've set two one-quart glass jars to let the cream rise to the top, they've been in my fridge for a couple days, but all I get is this solid cream on top (which seems to be super heavy cream), and there is no visible difference in the liquid part where I can identify the cream and the skim milk. Could it take longer to separate? Or is it just that my milk has been pre-frozen and that makes the cream stay solid like that after thawing?

Primal Diet / Raw cheese recipes from raw milk?
« on: March 31, 2015, 01:13:56 am »
So I came upon a source of organic grass fed raw milk, or at least the seller claims it is. I hope it is and will try it. But I wanted to know if I could get some pointers on how to produce raw cheeses of various kinds from it. The less ingredients I have to use, the better. I've seen some recipes that call for heating, using chemicals and stuff. I don't want any of that. Does cheese always need rennet, and do you use fresh rennet or always the dried and extracted version?

Primal Diet / Are you sure that dairy isn't paleo?
« on: March 05, 2015, 02:19:50 am »
Humans are the only mammal species I'm aware of where females develop udders/breasts and can lactate without getting pregnant and giving birth. Archeologists explain this by the idea that in hunter-gatherer tribes, all the females shared the raising and breastfeeding of all the babies in the tribe, which I certainly agree with. Although that is a lot of milk production for only the babies of the tribe. Under normal conditions, there would be many more women than children of breastfeeding age in a tribe. A single woman's milk production is generally enough to feed her own babies, especially if she is healthy, which she would've been.

I think what was actually going on is that milk was shared among all the tribe, not just the children, but adults too. It's inefficient if you look at it calorie-wise, but it could very well be efficient if you look at it nutrient-wise. Especially if they were also fermenting the milk and making it into cheese.

If that's not the case, I don't understand why animal herders later on, would begin drinking the milk of their herd as adults, if milk was disgusting to them. It makes much more sense to me that they would've already been used to consuming dairy as adults, and realized that they could milk their animals too.

Primal Diet / Stone pressed olive oil versus "mechanical" pressed?
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:12:18 pm »
I'm looking for raw, stone pressed olive oil, but all I see are oils that claim to be cold-pressed "by mechanical means". Do you know what this is about? I saw in a lot of oils from Italy. To me, mechanical means that there are no chemicals involved, I suppose? But it doesn't say if it's a machine that can generate high temperatures somehow.

Primal Diet / How to make vanilla extract?
« on: February 12, 2015, 03:47:05 am »
In We Want To Live, Aajonus writes: "VANILLA EXTRACT should be organically grown and should contain its natural alcohol.", but he doesn't specify how you're supposed to make it. In The Recipe For Living Without Disease he mentions using organic vanilla extract, but doesn't explain how to make it.

Does anyone know how this is made? I've been looking for recipes but they all call for using high proof liquor, which Aajonus said is all toxic without exception. So what is the natural way to ferment vanilla beans so that they create their natural alcohol, without you having to add toxic alcohol yourself? Any ideas?

Health / Vaccination
« on: January 04, 2015, 03:22:14 pm »
What are your thoughts on vaccines?

I've seen some people here refer to them as necessary under bad conditions.

I see them as nothing but venom injected into the body as if it were being delivered by a snake, scorpion or spider.  I haven't seen any conclusive evidence that they do any good, and I have seen lots of evidence that they do plenty of bad. People get all sorts of negative reactions from vaccines that are often minimized or unreported, from mild symptoms to allergies to even paralysis and death. And when you look into what's in them, it's no surprise. Moreover, injecting anything directly into the bloodstream bypasses our bodies' first lines of defense against foreign and toxic substances. Which is why venoumous animals use exactly this method of delivery.

Let me tell you my personal story. When I was 6 years old, my mother told me that we were going somewhere, I don't remember what she said, but I remember I was not concerned about going. Up until then my health had never been a concern, I was a very healthy and strong kid. When we arrived at the hospital, and she told me what they were going to do, I panicked. I wanted out of there. I instinctively knew that this was bad for me. If it wasn't, then why did my mother have to lie to get me to go? They had to drag me kicking and screaming into the vaccination room, where it took two big guys, a nurse, the doctor and my mother to all hold me down at the same time to keep me still enough to inject me. It was a nightmare.

A few days went by, and I was coming home from the swimming classes in the bus that would take all the kids from home to the pool and back. I noticed I had some yellow goo coming out of my arm, where they had injected me, and mentioned it to the kid sitting next to me. I didn't know what it was. He said it was called pus and it meant I was going to die. It made perfect sense to me, after all, I was injected with a poison right in that spot. I was depressed all day. When my mother asked me what was going on, I told her. She calmed my fears and told me I wasn't going to die. I wasn't sure if I should believe her or not; after all, she was the one who tricked me into going, and she held me down along with the others. And she was a doctor. I never trusted doctors.

A few months after that, school had just started, and I began getting colds that would last for months. I would have several every year, so that in total, 6 to 9 months out of the year, I had a cold. This had never happened before. Most of the time, the mucus that I would blow out of my nose was very thick and a dark yellow color, just like the pus coming out of my arm was. It slowly diminished over time until I was 22, when I was only having them 3 to 5 months out of the year, and then they suddenly stopped when I started taking massive amounts of vitamin C supplements. (I'm not taking the vitamin C anymore, I think it probably caused me other problems, and the colds have not resurfaced yet).

I had other vaccines when I was 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15 that probably gave me other health problems or exacerbated them. But the one I had when I was 6 was the one that made the most impact, and it wasn't until recently that I made the connection between the vaccine and my health starting to go down the drain.
