I don't want to drink pasteurized milk, which is why I don't get the strauss milk.. Pasteurized milk tastes like plastic to me.  I've never drank the colostrum from OP, but even if the milk isn't as great of quality, it's never given me any problems, it tastes great, and it's raw.  IMO it seems pretty much the same as having to choose between eating raw organic possibly grain-fed meat, or cooked grass-fed meat.. I think I'd prefer the raw.. but to each his own
Also, the county with Strauss milk (where I live) has the highest cancer rate in the country. Just something to think about.

If you ever want some sour cream, Nancy's beats out just about anything.

In my opinion, while grass fed is certainly the best, grain fed is fine sometimes. What I think really matters is that the animals aren't fed antobiotics.

You said your sources of raw fats are nuts and avocados? Well nuts aren't going to help many of our digestions, I'll tell you that. I think your problem might be a lack of raw animal fat. That should help move things along easliy.

Butter does have a small amount of carbs, so you couldn't get a 100% fat diet using butter.

General Discussion / Re: Drinking while eating?

From what Ive read if your getting thirsty at all then it already means you are somewhat dehydrated. I just make sure to drink a lot of water early in the day.
I hear you, but I do drink a fine amount of water early in the day. I have probably been drinking too much water for someone of my size for probably about a year...
I am just thinking about whether or not I am realizing my thirst when I am about to eat or if my body craves water with my food for some odd reason.

When your body gets ready for food?
Yup. I am taking my meat or whatever out of the fridge and suddenly get very thirsty. Maybe my body just needs a lot of water to digest like bharminder said.

I get intense thirst while eating and after. This usually occurs with cooked food.

If you want water, you likely need it.
Of course. It just seems strange that I only get thirsty right before eating.

I see. I eat my meat rare not raw as of now, so I guess that might be contributing to my thirst.

IMO, grass fed meat is of course better, but not necessary. Seems pretty easy to me to just eat a little fish to get the omega ratios right.

It's just kind of weird that I don't feel thirsty all day long, but then when I finally start to eat I get immensely thirsty.

Strictyl speaking, you should not drink while eating. The extra water is supposed to dilute your stomach-acid and, at least in my case, I seem to have a bigger appetite when I mix both food and water roughly together than when I just consume raw food on its own. I am sure I would do better and feel more sated with less food if I didn't drink water at the same time, but I like to wash down raw meats with water out of laziness.
That's interesting. Wouldn't the water make you feel fuller?

I always seem to hear that while eating it is best not to drink. But it seems as though right before I am about to eat, I always get extremely thirsty. I drink a little, but try not to drink too much right then. I am wondering who has some thoughts on this?

To me, raw meat tastes better...
Okay, maybe I am wrong. But at least for me. Might be that way because I always ate cooked meat when I was younger.

Yeah, that's just what happen to the entire human race after they were clever enough to master the fire and start grilling the food. It's an irreversible process until we finally understand what happened.
Does make you think, however. Maybe intelligent species are supposed to cook their food. If not, then why would everything work out so well, including tasting so much better? (I am in no way challenging a raw meat diet or anything, I am just thinking and all)

Hello Tyler,

I wouldn't say I have an intolerance to plant foods, however I do feel some discomfort when eating fruit and veggies. I do not experience anything like that when eating animal foods only.
Have you always experienced discomfort from eating plant foods? Many ZCers lose the ability to digest plant foods after going ZC.

Don't worry, cooked meats have a very strong taste, this is why a lot of kids love them, to your kid thats like the "candy" version of the raw meats meats, so I would say handle it as a treat...ie. "eat your meal of marrow and raw deer and tonight mom will make you a sunny side up egg for desert"....something along those lines. Also I think their taste will change many times as they get older, just keep feeding her healthy food and she will make better choices then other SAD kids, thats for sure.
I think by treating raw meats as food and cooked meats as treats your kid can learn what to eat right but not feel deprived of treats which may make her frustrated.
PS. I find kids go crazy for fried eggs or salmon....even my friend's SAD sugar addicted kid goes nuts when I sleep over there and make her salmon or eggs...
Kids go crazy for fish...? Not the ones that I know.

I never really thought of eating ants due to their size, you would have to eat a bowl full to get a good meal.
They probably taste good, the children at the daycare I work with eat them all the time.
Oh, ants taste kinda good- spicy.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: How many carbs to un-keto-adapt?
« on: December 23, 2010, 02:11:42 pm »
yeah, I was speaking about people here too. I have no idea whether a purely ZC diet is healthy or not, but I have an inclination to believe if you have no pre-existing health issues you could probably see some great health in a variety of permutations, so perhaps how you define what is the best is not necessary or necessarily so. When you are older, maybe you'll have more perspective on what is best - is what I am saying and likely won't sweat any small stuff. As for cravings, i don't know what to say about that, isn't a problem for me, but I did go through alot of restrictive approaches before doing meat, so havn't eaten SWD foods really in many years. The main thing with health for me is consistency, if you have no one supporting you or making your life a paint that its going to be hard to stay consistent. Discipline over a few addictions seems like the easier route to constant fighting with folks or whatever. Whether they accept a raw meat diet with a little bit of carbs either...yeah I dunno, still have to strike the right balance.
I see. I don't get cravings or anything, but let's say someone placed a nice big cheesecake in front of me and a nice big steak. Before I accidentally consumed some sugar, if health was a non-factor, I would actually rather have the steak. Now, maybe not so much. I did notice one thing when I went ZC, though. I had an ingrown toenail, looked really gross- puss coming out, large scab, painful wearing vibrams, etc. Went away right when I started eating just meat.
