Are melon/watermelon seeds safe to consume? Is there any benefit to doing so?

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Insects - what to look for when buying
« on: August 23, 2017, 02:56:42 am »
Hi,

I'm looking to order some crickets or mealworms. I am wondering what to look for when buying. What I mean is that when buying meat, for instance, I look for it to be pastured, grassfed and organic. What is the equivalent for insects? I know that they can be fed organic foods. Is there anything else I should look for to get the (probably) healthiest insects?

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Juicing - maybe paleo
« on: August 09, 2017, 07:54:27 am »
Good evening ladies and gents,

I've been thinking about modes of hydration. Right now I'm on RPD month 2 1/2. Thus far I have been drinking nothing but raw milk. However, I am a little suspicious of milk, despite the fact that I love it so much and have had no problems with it. So I've decided to cut down on milk and find some other source to hydrate me. I've gone through most of the day without milk and have gotten thirsty. I've tried to satisfy my thirst with raw eggs, carrots, celery and meat, but to no avail. Then I instinctively chewed up a carrot piece in my mouth, sucked out its juice, and then spat out the chewed up solid pieces. As a result, I felt much more hydrated. This suggests to me that juicing would be available to a paleo human, in the sense that all this human has to do is chew up a fruit or vegetable and then spit out the solid remains... So I think I'll be buying a juicer, and now the question is which one, because sucking vegetables/fruit is a mess.

Health / Science of Tooth Yellowing and Decay
« on: August 04, 2017, 05:11:05 am »
Does anyone know the science behind tooth decay and tooth yellowing? I'm curious to know:

1. What is the chemical/mechanical process that causes teeth to develop cavities? Is it something that bacteria are releasing when digesting certain foods which erodes the tooth? If so, which foods? Or is it something else?

2. same question concerning yellowing of teeth, which seems to be an independent process.

3. how to battle tooth decay and tooth yellowing the paleo way? Avoid certain foods, eat more of others, brush with some specific substance, don't brush with other specific substances...?

General Discussion / Preserving meat
« on: July 10, 2017, 04:09:54 am »
I'm wondering how to correctly handle meats and fish. I get the impression that there are times when you want your meat exposed to air, but it's not clear to me when.

1. If the meat comes enclosed in a sealed plastic container, is it fine to store it in the refrigerator until I am ready to eat it or should I poke holes in the container to allow it to come into contact with air?
2. Is refrigerator air any different from normal-temperature air when it comes to meat preservation?
3. If the fish or meat smells because it got exposed to a lot of heat, say from sitting in a car, do you throw it away, or try to salvage it somehow, by fermenting it or airing it?
4. What's the optimal way to store a meat/fish?

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Non-animal product, steady source of food
« on: July 07, 2017, 11:21:00 pm »
Hey amigos,

I'd like to supplement my carnivorous diet. I was wondering what kind of food you can eat regularly that is not an animal product. Two such foods I can think of are nuts and berries. Are there any other foods one could eat regularly that are not animal products? Seems to me fruit doesn't qualify for regular eating.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Reptiles & amphibians, as food
« on: July 07, 2017, 11:11:13 pm »
Does anyone have any experience eating reptiles or amphibians raw? Any suggestions on which commonly found species are palatable? Any suggestions on what body parts are palatable and what parts are not?

General Discussion / Eating mosquitoes?
« on: June 05, 2017, 07:03:36 am »
Mosquitoes are a frustrating pest. I would love it if they magically transformed into candy. I am wondering if anyone here has experience eating mosquitoes? Whether there is a high risk of disease? I know that in certain parts of Africa, folks capture mosquitoes and add them to their burgers.

End of week 1.

Diet: raw lamb steak, raw beef steak, raw beef liver, raw tuna, raw salmon, raw swordfish, raw monchong, lots of raw dairy, small amounts of raw dairy, small amount of tomatoes, raw chicken breast, raw eggs, cheeses from raw milk, butter.

Notes:

Troubles: - On the first few days, I felt constantly dehydrated, despite drinking water. Water felt repulsive. I figured I need to get hydrated from food, along the lines of what AV recommends. So I bought raw milk. And it's been a great pleasure to drink. I know that a lot of folks have problems with dairy, but I've never had any issues. I used to eat cereal with milk twice a day. Perhaps I am evolutionarily blessed with the right genes for dairy, since I have heritage from North East Europe.
- Cooked food is tastier.

Benefits: - I have had minor dermatitis for about 4 months on my face. On day 3 of my diet, it began noticeably receding. Now it seems to have been cured.
- I experience hunger differently now. I would feel light-headed and brain-fogged. Now I simply feel my stomach telling me I ought to eat.
- Movements have gone from 1/day to 1/2 days.
- My stomach feels much lighter after a meal. With cooked food it felt heavy.

Greetings paleolithic friends,
I've been contemplating the raw meat diet for a few weeks now, ever since reading about Derek Nance. I've been weighing the evidence, learning about "the bear", zero carbers, ketogenic diets, this forum and a youtuber named sv3rige who films his raw meat eating habits.
It's been tough to tell what is true about raw meat since it's commonly understood that it will lead to infection and parasites. However, I've been eating raw eggs for several months and according to popular belief, I should have developed a Salmonella infection and died by now, but have experienced none of that. So I've decided to take the next step and begin eating small amounts of raw meat (a bite a day). All in all, I look forward to learning about the diet from reading the posts in this forum and asking questions.
