General Discussion / Re: Is freezing really all that damaging?
« on: May 13, 2013, 05:48:23 am »
pretty much all of my meat is frozen too. like eric, i mostly buy in bulk to lower cost.  there's something i do, and i read something from jessica that she does the same... i let it age in the fridge for a day or a few days to let the bacteria repopulate again.

Off Topic / diet and muscle cramps
« on: May 13, 2013, 05:45:00 am »
so, i recently have been trying to increase my carbs to see if that would help me get my female cycle back on track... 1.5 weeks and it worked after 3 months without.  looking for nonsweet carb ideas, i ate steamed broccoli, raw jicama, sea greens powder and avocado.  i also ate a teaspoon of honey each day (something i used as a jump start, but not continuing this because i turn into an addict with raw honey!), but i found that if i ate more than that i would get charlie horses that were so darn uncomfortable until i could them to go away!.. .argh!!! i don't remember having this problem with sweets before, but a google search showed that diabetics have horrible muscle cramps. they can be associated with high or low blood sugar, so diabetics don't know which they are, but they know their blood sugar is off.

anyone else experience this? i've otherwise been relatively low carb and wonder if i now have sugar sensitivity issues?

Off Topic / dog food brain storming
« on: May 13, 2013, 05:36:54 am »
sometimes is tough for me to get dog food mix from the farm. they have only so much, then run out kind of quickly.

i have a ton of lamb 100% grass-fed fat and heart tends to be always available while other meat cuts and organs run out.  a woman at the farmers market told me i can just put everything in a food processor and pulse blend it to shred it up a bit.

so here's what i'm thinking, please add or tell me what to take away:
fat
heart (and whatever else is available)
sea greens blend (it's a powdered green supplement of sea stuff, no vegees)
clay
bone meal (my dog gets chicken thighs (w bone) when they go on sale, so i'm not too worried about the bone meal)
eggs?

i dehydrate liver in small bit size pieces as dog treats, so she gets liver too.

any thoughts??  i'm trying to feed her the best diet i can think of and find a way to keep it affordable too.

Off Topic / conscientious vs orthorexic
« on: May 12, 2013, 04:46:30 am »
i just read an article that defined several subtypes of orthorexia from those eat paleo, eat raw, eat low carb, eat low fat, and on and on.

now granted we all validate each other here, where do you draw the line??  for example, i believe i eat the way i do not out of fear or religion but because my body works teh way i want it to that way. the author of the article above would label me. wtf??

Health / Re: MY EARS!!!
« on: April 29, 2013, 04:55:32 am »
that happens to me!!!!... i think it happens when i'm underweight.  the only way to remedy it is exactly what you said to flip the head down. i would just bend down to touch the floor, like a stretch. it's annoying!!!... i can't tell how loud or softly i'm speaking.  the pinching your nose thing doesn't work the way it does when your ears pop at elevation or on an airplane.  it's like your ears have to go below your heart of something to fix it, but it could be seconds, minutes or hours when you feel that sensation again.

i don't know what causes this, but so far i've only had it happen when my weight got a little on the low side. and i'm not attributing this to weight or anything, that's just when i observe this.

Ioanna, I think you have to use your intuition about the probiotics.  Like GS said, some are compatible some are not.  I know its a costly thing to experiment with so perhaps just making sure you are eating plenty of aged meats might be a good idea.

so here's what i did... i read that people with ibs and gi issues benefit from psyllium and flax, and taking a probiotic at the same time is synergistic. psyllium/flax slows things down so the probiotics can actually adhere, and the fiber is supposed to be a prebiotic.  so, i did this with psyllium plus probiotic and seems to have worked.  this is the brand of probiotic that previously gave me diarrhea all day, but the combo seemed to keep me 'normal'.

You get negative reactions from "high-meat"? That's unusual. What are they?

my ibs issues start to come back....  namely frequent bm's (colon spasms).  i was thinking that maybe it has to do with the acidity??  i can eat all the aged meat i want wo problems though.

If you want decent probiotics, try EM(Effective Microorganisms) Products.

thanks, any testimonials?

A secondary damage done by shaving is destruction of the woman's self-esteem. The act of women shaving the hair of puberty is a symbol of subservience to men. It's one of the more obvious symbols - reverting to the state of dependent childhood by removing the signs of adulthood. JMHO

strongly disagree here.  shaving is not about removing the signs of adulthood.  do men shave their facial hair as a means of "reverting to the state of dependent childhood by removing the signs of adulthood" and subservience to women???  of course not!

do you shave there everyday too? or does it burn non-shaving days as well?

i've tried baking soda as shampoo, which was great for my hair, but my scalp reacted. so, i don't trust baking soda on my skin.

i think i give up on probiotics. i have this kind of reaction to all i've tried so far.... a lot!!!

i do like high meat!, but i do better with aged meat. i can only handle small amounts of high meat.

gs, and anyone else who has od'd on probiotics... what are the 'symptoms' you experienced?

i've tried to do this, but not lasted more than a day due to frequent bm's (at the normal/recommended dose) and/or diarrhea (doubling the dose).  i can't imagine what would happen at 5-10 x recommended dose  -X

General Discussion / Re: Raw dressings, dips, sauces, etc
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:37:31 pm »
egg yolks and avocados serve as a base for making sauces, dressings, or dips depending on what spices or herbs you add to them.  egg yolk alone is a great dipping sauce.

egg yolks and flax oil can be whipped together to make mayonnaise.

avocado can be blended with tomato and acv or lemon juice and herbs to make a dressing.

you can probably do a google search for tons of recipes.

I am using all organic make up so far but I am going to try out the charcoal stuff. Have you tried it yet? For water soluable mascara could one mix the charcoal with water only?

i haven't tried it yet, though i do have the ingredients. i don't wear make-up on a daily basis, so i just haven't had a chance to try it yet.  i would think water and charcoal would work just fine too.  let me know if you try it.

i think it was van that posted once about using clay for shampoo and soap. is this what your mud shampoo is like?.. something dry?... or it's a paste/mix?

i forgot to mention that one about lipstick... for color try beet root powder, so you could mix the beet root powder with maybe coconut oil or a beeswax-coconut oil blend.  you could also just keep beet root in the fridge. when you want to use it, just cut a piece and apply to lips for color.

and for hair mousse: beat an egg white until stiff peaks form, voila! i've tried this one, it works! just don't use too much more than necessary because it excess creates white dandruffy look in the hair.

going to try your mud shampoo and your conditioner, inger :)
