Delivery guy is claiming these are all from grass fed Amish farms.  Does anyone know if this color variation normal?  Both taste just fine.

I have a question to long time meat eaters if they had any issues with elevated iron.

I started to develop high iron levels after about 5-6 years of eating raw meat daily and organs every other week.  Even after I limited my meat and liver intake iron levels kept going up.  I never had any issues with iron before.  It got to the point where I had to donate blood just to get rid of extra iron.

I've got an unscheduled beef delivery and ended up with too much beef/suet.
If anyone in Chicago area needs some you can have it at my cost of $4/lb.  Sorry, no shipping.

The source is Indiana Amish.  At least that's what my delivery guy is saying.
I questioned him about it since I haven't seen so much fat before but he swears it is pure pasture fed.

Leaving in Midwest I really miss ocean water.
I am thinking of getting a big barrel and fill it up with sea water so I can dip myself in it regularly after workout or sauna.
I would like to get it more saltier than sea water but not as much as Dead Sea.
I can get sea salt in bulk from the aquarium store.
My understanding is really salty water does not go bad since nothing can live in such high salinity and no need to change it frequently.

A 60" high barrel cost around $570 without shipment.

What do you think?

General Discussion / 3-year old ram, questions

I've just processed a 3 year old ram.

I noticed large number of tiny roundworms in the lungs.
Besides these worms the lungs look normal.
Has anyone dealt with this before?  Is it OK to eat lungs just like that or freeze them or what?

Health / Whooping cough

My 2y old daughter got a whooping cough. Anyone has any experiences?

It's been a week, fever is gone as all other symptoms except the cough.  She did not want to eat much, mostly kefir with wild blueberries and young coconut, and some scrambled eggs.  totally did not want any raw meat.
She was not vaccinated.

General Discussion / Tapeworm cysts

I took out the last deer liver from the freezer and found what looks like tapeworm cysts.  There was one on the surface and found 2 more just below the surface.  Those were easy to spot because the liver was still frozen.  I found another one when I was about to eat it.  The cysts should be all dead by now but I discarded them anyway.

The deers all came from UP Michigan.

I will post a picture of it when I get home.  Bon appetit.

I'm curious if anyone else is eating deer spleen.  If so I'd like to hear your opinions.
It is so bloody and taste-wise not pleasant to eat at all.

I get them from my hunting but I would never buy them.

Thoughts on this year deer hunting.

Good news - we got 4 deers.

Bad news - stomach content had corn kernels from nearby farms, most likely Monsanto corn.

All 4 deers were taken in the morning on the first day.  We have not seen any more deer the rest of the day or following two days.

All 4 were taken between 100 and 150 yards.  Just beyond the range of most shotguns and well beyond of any bow.  Medium range rifle appears to be the most economical way to harvest deers.  If we did not have rifles we would have come out empty handed.  I think bow hunting is strictly for the experience, one can wait a very long time to kill a deer with a bow.

We also checked public land up north.  It is further away from the farms and I suspect deer there are cleaner.  We are thinking of trying there next season.

I ran out of supplies and had to grab Australian lamb from Costco. They say it is grain-finished.  It probably is because it had very mushy texture.  Anyone else tried it?

I noticed all Slankers packages have labels stamped with very recent time stamp.  It gives you an impression that the meat was packaged few days ago.  But in reality there is another label underneath the top label with a time stamp of about 2 months older than the top label.  I don't think there is anything wrong with that meat, I'd guess it's been stored in the freezer those 2 months.  It's just it would be better to label packages with original packaged date.

General Discussion / Suet question

I just started to include suet in my meals.  It appears that suet has a lot of connective tissue besides fat.  
The question is how easy for humans to digest connective tissue?  What is it made of? Proteins?

I would think softer belly fat would be easier to digest but Slankers are all out of beef fat and lamb fat.  Any one knows of other sources?
