Primal Diet / Longterm Primal dieters?
« on: February 20, 2012, 04:49:34 pm »
I was wondering if there are people here who have practised AV's  dietary recommendations long term and if so how are you doing?

I recently found (after searching for it for more than a year) a supply of raw butter and no salt added raw cheese. I already had access to raw milk and seem to do very good with raw dairy. So I'm going to experiment with the Primal diet again. Last time I did, I didn't have access to raw butter so that stopped that experience.

Hot Topics / That all important taste

I would like to know: are there people here who after say more than a year rpd still dislike the taste of raw meat/organs? And who would still like the idea off eating some sad foods?

I read that "00night storm" was still having trouble after a year. I've have been 90% rpd for a few months and was 100% rpd the last few weeks. Today was one of my best friends birthday who also is a colleague. So he brought pie(from an expensive baker) to work. I wanted to refuse but the guy is Georgian and its a big thing to refuse food in their culture especially from a friend and especially at his birthday. So I ended up eating a slice of pie  :'( I had really hoped I wouldn't like it because its disgusting sad food, too bad. It tasted nice, very nice. It also feels surpisingly ok in my stomach. I had a cooked sausage a few weeks ago that did not feel ok so I thought this would feel bad too.

I have no problems eating raw meat since I switched to 100% grassfed meat, but I don't love it either. However I know from experience that if I eat one non-raw thing my taste is of and I hate the taste of raw meat the rest of the day. So I guess I will have a vegetarian diner tonight  >:

Hot Topics / Kombucha tea anyone?
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:55:07 pm »
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone has ever tried kombucha tea? It’s a fermented tea. Supposed to have a lot of health benefits. Some claim its liver detoxing due to the glucuronic acid present.

I have been getting into fermenting stuff lately starting with kefir last week (both water and milk) Feel great when drinking both! My digestion has definitely benefited from those probiotic beverages. Came across this kombucha tea and got very curious. The process is similar to that of water kefir (both are yeast bacteria symbioses) but water kefir has a much higher alcohol content (0,5-3%) -[ Wondered if kombucha would be a good non alcoholic substitute.

Also, does anyone has experience using waterkefir grains to ferment vegetables like carrot juice? The starch in the carrot should feed the kefir grains. Gonna try that this weekend. ;D

Have a good weekend!

Raw Weston Price / Raw milk vs raw milks Kefir
« on: April 21, 2011, 10:26:01 pm »
Many of us have serious problems with raw milk. I read that making kefir from it using kefir grains (not just sour milk) solves those problems and adds a whole lot of beneficial micro-organisms

I recieved my kefir grains today and will start making raw milk kefir. This stuff is supposed to solve many ailments includings skin problems. I thrive on a raw milk heavy RPD and seem to do less well when I cut out raw milk. However I do have some skin inflammation, have had all my life. Hope the kefir helps me.

Experiences anyone?

Welcoming Committee / finally there

Introductions aren’t my strongest point (nor is English) but I wil give it a shot since it seems kinda strange to just start posting without one.

My dietary history

The first 18 years of my life I lived on grains, shit-fed meat, greens, fruits, lots off dairy and junk. I’m from the Netherlands were they have taken the low fat hype to the next level. It is common practice to eat 2 bread meals a day. To make matters worse on this bread there should be margarine because it’s a healthy fat right? Real butter is used only very little in the Netherlands.

Sometimes I really wonder how I survived!

At 18 I started reading a lot about nutrition and slowly realised there’s something very wrong with dietary advice giving by mainstream channels. I learned the value of real fats and experimented with low carb.

Next I found out about the blood type diet and naively believed the theory largely. Being type A I embarked upon a largely vegetarian diet with some dairy and meat. During the next 5 or so years my health increased and I kept reading. Slowly my diet got less blood type and more low-fat.

Recently I found out about the work of dr E. Howel, a true pioneer imo, and started eating lots of sprouts (no grains) and raw vegetables. This really helped my health a lot. However I still felt drained by the cooked meat so I started to google raw vegan and read a lot about it. I never did raw vegan because I’ve always been very sure humans are omnivores.

I felt it should at least be possible to eat eggs dairy and some types of meat raw. This lead me to the primal diet and eventually here. The next 2 months I read as much as I could on your forum and learned more than I ever thought I would. There’s a lot of wisdom here and I’m very happy to be part of this forum now.

I’m currently transitioning to an RPD diet. I tried going cold turkey and felt great however it wasn’t long before I started cheating due to social factors. So I now am easing into the diet.

My diet looks somewhat like this:

06:15 breakfast
smoothy
   0,3 litre raw organic milk
   4 whole organic eggs
   teaspoon honey

tablespoon VCO  (in my climate its always solid)

9:30 snack
Apple
Avocado (addicted to them since my low carb experiments)

12:30 lunch
200-300 grams Raw organic semi-grassfed beef fatty cut
0,3 ltr raw organic milk
Some butter or vco

15:00
0,5 ltr Green vegetable smoothy with sprouts(50%)
Piece of raw cheese

~18:00 diner
Cooked meat or fish
Cooked vegetables / green smoothy
3 enzyme caps (they really work for me when eating cooked)

Suggestions are very welcome
