oh isnt civilization a total bitch. since we only get one shot at life and god doesnt exist, we should definitely control everyone and everything that we perceive to be threats or just don't like :)

sure, raw plant or animal foods look good on paper, but (may) react negatively when actually eaten. allergies, etc.
and disregarding the taboo-ness of raw animal foods, traditional diets are a mix of raw and cooked/processed animal foods. there are plenty of people who are getting the results they want (and the results others want) on a cooked paleo diet, whether thats low carb, zero carb or mid-high carb. it all depends on the desired results PLUS the food eaten PLUS the person's current biochemistry (which needs to be tested by good labwork, otherwise all you can go on is results, some of which are invisible).
as KD talked about, individual foods react differently in the context of a whole diet.

i do think though that very healthy tribal people ate a limited variety of foods, seasonally, focusing on fat ruminants until they killed off so many that they were forced into limited agriculture or processing foraged foodstuffs. so i would say eat 1 or 2 species of whole animal, unless you can't get the whole animal, and then you have to supplement with foods that spark discussions like this.

well, i wouldn't eat a grain-fed human unless i absolutely had to.

super cooked vs. completely raw, the answer is somewhere in the middle of the extremes. tyler probably has some unique biochemistry that reacts negatively with cooked meats, but that doesnt mean everyone will.

everyday, multiple times a day - it becomes normal and useful when practiced, and in conjunction with systematic regular meditation.

probably shouldve eaten big after the workout and not before. also massive raw yolks can induce detox or diarrhea, try 2-3 instead of 12. plus make sure the eggs are healthy/fertile/pastured, etc

the only problem is your imagination here.
in nature, a human hunting animals and gathering some plant matter needs CALORIES above all else. where do you think theyll get it from? its the fat man.

one more thing, when interviewing doctors, find one that supports, practices and promotes a strict paleo/primal diet or weston price style eating/GAPS diet. these docs understand the value of high quality raw and cooked animal foods, and you wont have to explain yourself too much. it helps if the doctor is athletic and/or NOT a plant-based diet proponent.

busgrw- yes, there are many names for these types of doctors and you need to do your research but here are some words you can google
naturopathic functional medicine, biological medicine, functional biological medicine, preventative medicine, etc
here are some luminaries in the US, take a look at the websites so you know the general idea
mark hyman http://drhyman.com/ he has written some great books
http://clearcenterofhealth.com/ this is where i go, as you can see they have various practitioners and combine modalities- chinese medicine, M.D.s, osteopaths, etc.
here's a place in San Fran http://www.sfpmg.com/

a good place should either have many methods available, like a collective of healers, or if it's just one doctor, they should offer full blood testing, nutrient testing, hormone panels, etc. they will have extensive knowledge of autoimmune conditions, food allergies, and hormonal imbalances.
it should be very professional and they will take time to answer your questions, this is NOT like the typical medical establishment that treats people like fools. these doctors are educators and generally use nutrition and nutritional supplements to heal, along with hormones if necessary and other adjunctive methods such as chiropractic, acupuncture, exercise, etc for whatever is needed.. sometimes the techniques are very cutting edge and "weird" to the general uneducated public.

go see a good doctor - naturopathic and or biological/functional/integrative medicine. get all the bloodwork and nutrient testing done, hormone panels, etc. better to spend a few thousand dollars now then to suffer and get worse.
sometimes i think that after a certain point of un-health, even healthy diets such as RPD cannot reverse the tide quickly enough and we may need sensible targeted medical intervention.

KD- i love the marrow but it runs out fast, takes up lots of space in the freezer & is expensive, but it tastes so good. i was eating 1 package a day for a while there, about 2lbs of bones, whetevr that amounts to in marrow i dont know. several tablespoons.

i may be allergic to eggs even though i love them.

what are the fattier cuts?

when i chew suet it becomes like bubblegum and never disintegrates... i have to swallow it like gum...

ys- it ends up tasting like mush, very unappealing when the fat content of the ground meat gets to 30% or more

yes i have teeth. some of it is unchewable, whether frozen or thawed. i order the bison fat, beef & lamb are out of stock.

i may be allergic to butter and raw butter, so i try not to eat it.

i wish i could get some of that yellow back fat that is supposed to taste great, so far all the back fat i've got is white.

13
so, i'm ordering from slankers, getting marrow and back fat, which is obviously separate from the lean roasts & stew meat. when i want to combine them in a meal, i'm confused about weight and caloric ratios. eating instinctively or "to satiation" does not work for me - i could go into greater length on this but thats not the point of this post.

i want to be more towards ketogenic in my diet, maybe 60% fat, 30% protein and 10% misc carbs, but i am missing that by an undetermined amount. i am also aiming for highish protein, maybe 100+/day at 6 feet 185 lbs. i still have too much bodyfat and not enough lean body weight.
i've read pioneer's and lex's personal strategies and they seem very logical, but i'm still not getting it and math isn't my strong suit.

when i grind my roasts/stew meat i then also grind some fat- issues: adding (too much of) the ground fat tastes horrible, which is i guess why most burger meat is very lean, and how much fat to add? what is the ratio of meat to fat that a paleo man would eat? also considering that without grinding, some of the back fat is impossible to chew.
if i don't eat enough fat in the day, my calories will be too high in protein and i will get a "protein headache". so there is some natural carving for fat, even if it doesnt taste good.

14
i find that scheduling helps to train my body, normalize it. i eat about 3-4 meals within an 8 hour period, and then only drink water beyond that window. i do take alot of supplements though. if i stay active/awake too long after that last meal i will start to crave more food, i think this is more about timing and my eating window not being in sync with my activity window. i can easily get about 2000 cals in 8 hours, decent fat and protein porcentage too, although im still searching for the sweet spot.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / weight ratios of protein to fat?
« on: December 05, 2010, 04:52:25 am »
so i finally got my marrow and back fat orders in, and i'd like to know what is the average ratio of lean protein to fat i "should" be eating?
consider that i weigh 180 lbs, so i would like to eat 180 grams of protein a day

General Discussion / Re: One meal a day
« on: December 01, 2010, 09:26:29 am »
lately i feel satisfied on 2 meals a day, if i stick to an eating window of 12pm to 7pm. those 2 meals need to be raw-ish meat with ample enough fat, so i get about 1800 cals with 180g of protein. i do take a lot of supplements though, so no idea if i'd need to eat more if i didn't take them.

when you talk to the egg farmers/sellers, ask what the chickens eat. it should include insects and weeds and herbs, as the chickens roam freely outside. yes, some will be fed flax and other seeds like alfalfa, and this is not so bad. it gets bad when they are fed (gmo non-organic) corn and wheat. smart farmers who love their jobs will feed the chickens as natural a diet as possible, and some dont even feed them, just let them forage for food on their own outside - this is the best and most natural way.
and yes, because of this, chickens will lay less eggs in winter.

remember that healing takes time and happens in stages, often confusing to our "rational" minds. nature is circuitous, not linear.
real top quality fat and protein will help the most, though this is general info and individually you may need some additional support. whether thats fermented seaweed, or whatever, is up to you to find out.

oy man, you're in a bad way but as long as you are willing you can heal.
sadly, most useful medical treatments from a biological functional medicine doctor are costly on your current income.
mainly i would say, make sure you are not ingesting any toxins: tap water, grains, fruit, soy, corn, dairy, sugar, grain-fed meat, farmed fish, etc.

ferment or steam your veggies, keep on the raw or fermented grass finished meat/fish with plenty of the raw fat, organ meats, etc.
do what you can to make some money and get the blood tests done by a bio-func doc who knows paleo or wapf nutrition.

maybe yogurt is good for you, but i kinda doubt it. if you really want better bowel movements try natural calm powdered magnesium, or eat more raw fat and or refined coconut oil.
but, if yogurt is the only thing that gives you relief right now, go for it until it stops working.

hidden chronic food allergies can really mess you up long term

if you do have medicare, many func med docs are covered. its not about "woo-woo alternative therapies". sometimes its also called preventative medicine, guys like mark hyman, etc.

with a limited budget, do your best to save up a buffer of money. do any odd jobs you can to save up a few thousand dollars that you won't spend. from there you can easily buy in bulk mail-order meats, any kind you want, and with shipping the most you will pay is 6 dollars a pound and wont have to compromise.
you can buy a cheaper meat grinder and grind the meat yourself as well.
bulk seaweed is very healthy for minerals. bulk coconut oil as well.
if you want to do veggies or fruits just buy some sea salt and ferment them!
switch the ghee for egg yolks from real eggs from the farmers market.

Primal Diet / Re: Aajonus etc.

sisson calls it the primal blueprint, or primal for short as in "i eat Primal". honestly sisson's primal blueprint "diet"/way-of-eating and robb wolf's paleo solution way of eating are the same: modern paleo, an upgrade from cordain.

any form of "skipping meals" will only work if the metabolic system is healthy and blood sugar is controlled already. fasting is another stress to the body if the body is already overstressed.

also ris rosen, find all the highest quality meats that you can, and see which ones your body likes the best. raw liver from one farm or animal may be totally different than another.
