As dumb a suggestion as this sounds - can you bring your own food?
I do not want to as yet. I just started experimenting with RAF and I have not seen much difference in my health as yet. I am very motivated by the testimonials given by members on this forum. But as yet I have not yet become an evangelist regarding RAF.  ;) So  I do not want to cause discomfort to my dining mates who sometimes are the hosts paying for the buffet...

As to eating raw fish and throwing away the rice roll, I might get away with doing one or two rolls... More than that friends may stare at me....

Are bones good for bone broth after bone marrow is extracted? I read somewhere that bone broth is very nutrious even though it is cooked.
Or maybe they are good for garden compost?

I am faced with Asian seafood buffets often at work. I eat some fruits (strawberries, melon) but not a plateful, any sashimi and raw oysters, plus some of the steamed/boiled/poached seafood if I feel weak about saying no. Never the greasy fried seafood. I used to really like these buffets, but now I think they are a waste of time and money. All restaurants make me feel this way.

Do raw oysters have parasite problems? There are raw oysters in the buffet places I go to. But I am worried about parasites.

I don't eat those shrimp.  They are farm-raised.

But the meats there will be from farm-raised (grain-fed/trough-raised) animals too.  Do you consider them better than farm-raised seafoods?

BTW, since these meats/seafoods are farm-raised, do you think they are more likely to have parasites (compared with grass-fed meats and wild caught seafoods)?

Why wouldn't you eat high-GI fruits then if you don't have diabetes? :)

I'd go with the fruits btw. The way you described it, everything else sounds like a hassle (home-made sauce, questionable food quality, etc.)

I think high-GI fruits are not good for anyone. They result in high blood glucose.  Isn't that true?

I would enjoy eating a fruit meal. But I wonder if a couple fruit meals a month will prevent me from ever entering a ketogenic state. As I said, I am experimenting with VLC  so that I might expereince how it feels to fuel myself largely with fatty acids/ketones.

I usually just get the raw meat from the barbecue counter and take it away before they can ask me if I want them to cook it.  I also do eat steamed clams at these places.  It's not ideal, but at least they are not baked/fried/boiled.

I've had no problems with the raw meats at these places.

Considering your diabetes, I'd avoid the fruit and eat the salads.

You do not have problems with the raw meats at these places? I will think about it...maybe I would try a little....
What about the small raw shrimps at these places?

I do not have diabetes or any obvious health issues.  Where did you get this idea?!

I am a newbie. I am experimenting with doing VLC and mostly raw animal foods.  (My diet for the past month includes beef, salmon, a little animal organs, cheese, coconut oil, macadamia nuts, walnuts, a tiny bit fruit/vege juice.  Except for coconut oil, everything is raw.)   I do not think I have entered ketosis after several weeks. Maybe I eat too much protein/carb.  But I feel dehydrated and sometimes I have a mild headache at the front part of my head. So I guess I am not far from entering ketosis.

I have socials a couple times a month, usually at Asian buffet places. I am trying to figure out what would be my best choice of foods at this stage of my diet:

(1) I could eat only fresh low-GI fruits;
(2) I could eat only  fresh vegetable salads with my home-made sauce;
(3) I could select  raw meats/seafoods from the Mongolian BBQ counter and ask the chef to cook them with water (not with cheap vegetable oil)--then season with my home-made sauce.

I cannot decide which option is least harmful to my health/experiment. I will appreciate input.  (No I will not eat raw meats, which I bet are of low quality and could cause serious stomach upset, not to mention causing disturbance among my friends.)

Will someone please link me to some posts that talk about the shortcomings of cooked paleo diet (as compared to raw paleo)?

And if anyone did cooked paleo before, please share your expereince.

Beef is probably one of our most natural foods. It's probably the least allergenic thing you can eat, and one of the easiest to digest, for most people.
What is the reason for what you stated?

145 is too much.

Just tried my soaked cheese. Is it supposed to taste a lot worse? The soggyness doesnt help either. Maybe i did something wrong. I think I will go for the no salt added cheese instead of trying to soak it out.

Maybe you do not like salt-free cheese? After all, the vast majority of people consider salt-free cheese tasteless, which is why the big dairy companies do not make it.

Dorothy, thank you for your input, which gives me food for thought.
So self-ministered massage/acupuncture works for you? Maybe I should investigate this branch of ancient Chinese medicine.

"Do you feel any better now than when you were raw vegan? " Not really. But it has been only one month.  Besides I am not really suffering bad health....So I will give raw animal food more time.

Dorothy, thanks for input.
Dark eye circle does not run in my family.  I got dark eye circle because of a very long period of poor quality sleep several years ago due to internal struggles.  Well, I guess my sleep pattern could be more regular and disciplined even now.    I did not drink much water because I used to eat much fruit.  I drink 8 cups daily now because VLC makes me thirsty.

A Chinese medicine doctor told me that my liver and kidneys were not working well. So I am hoping to get some grass-fed  kidneys/livers to see if they will help. Oh, you asked me about my ethnicity. I am from Taiwan originally so my ethnicity is Chinese. Chinese thinking is that if you are weak in a certain organ then eating much of that organ of aminals will bring healing.

I am relying upon cheese/coconut oil/nuts for fat. I have never had any problem with dairy. And in my raw vegan days I did not have dairy for years and that did not bring vibrant health to me.   I am still waiting for my marrow bones to be shiped. If I like marrow, I will cut out dairy for a while.

"Logically, keeping some animal products in the diet if you can get good stuff seems prudent even if you don't feel any big differences. "  That is right. So I am going to give raw animal foods a try for several months at least.

So Joy, what was diet before trying raw paleo?

Dorothy, It is a blessing that you have three pets to love. I am sure they adore you too.

I read RawFoodTalk often these past several years.  However I was not strictly raw vegan.  When I ate with friends, I did not refrain from animal foods.  But I did not have vibrant health so I was still looking for an ideal diet. One month ago I was just looking for a non-vegan raw forum that would accept raw dairy and not brand animal-eaters as un-ethical; and I bumped into this raw paleo forum.  I have read much this past month and am getting a preliminary knowledge regarding how raw paleo/low carb works.   Now I do hope it works for me.  The most obvious sign would be that my long-time dark eye circle would go away.

Do you think "taste" can be the judge? If one species pleases me more in taste, could that mean that this species is probably the best for me health-wise?

Hey Joy - are you far along with any of this stuff yet to ever share an order with me? I'm hunting hard for small farmers.

I might not be the right person, Dorothy.  My need is small as hubby does not want to bite into bloody animal stuff yet.  If Slanker's does not meet my small need for organs, I will just buy beef and veal liver from WF and fish from HEB.  I also eat/enjoy  a good quantity of raw dairy.  Honestly I do not know if this animal diet will work for me. I have not felt any difference (I have mostly done raw Paleo this past month). So I am yet to be convinced that this animal diet works for me.  I do not know where I will be two months down the road. So I only plan month by month.

You sound somewhat desperate. You must have great love for your family members who are waiting for you to feed them.  I pray you will have succees in locating trust-worthy suppliers.  :)

Even if we run out of fish, by the time it happens, research into soil quality and grass-feeding is going to be more widely understood and accepted...which means I'll be more likely to easily find animals raised on the highest-possible quality of food. Right now, that's hard.

Fish, OTOH, automatically have a complete and perfect diet, because the ocean is chock-full of minerals. Almost no soils are as mineral-rich as the ocean always is.  They  can be made mineral-rich, but I'm going to let everybody catch up with me on soil research, rather than exhausting myself trying to spread the truth about soil improvement, or starting my own farm.

So based on your research you believe wild caught Alaskan salmon is more nutritious than grass-fed red meat?   A number of members on this forum claim that red meats have healed their bodies better than fish.

I am just interested in finding out what is best for my health, red meat or fish.   As for sustainability, I hope governments and experts will do their job in informing people and setting up regulations.

So Joy - YOU'RE the reason Slankers can't fill my order!  >: ;)  And you already have WF to buy from and I don't. Bwwwwaaaa.

But really - no food for doggies, no food for chickens - I'm never going to recommend Slankers again! They won't let me automatically order but don't have food for me when I do order. My poor beagle is suffering because of the radical change in diet.

Without a constant food source - how on earth can someone do a ketogenic diet?! You need ALL the organs - the whole animal. Slankers is undependable. Sucks.

What culture are you Joy?

Nope, Dorothy.  My very first order from Slanker's has not yet been shipped.  So, blame on Slanker's.  ;)   But I am not upset with them.  There was a bad drought and they are just being honest.  I would rather they be honest with me than shipping me something of less quality.
As there has been good rain from heaven lately, let us hope this year Slanker's will be blessed and so do we.

I drink one glass of spinach juice daily. I think that takes of both magnesium and potassium.

cherymoya,  I hope your view regarding seafoods safety is correct, for I like salmon.

My brother told me that his foremer boss is diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).  His doctor said that the cause of his ALS is that there is much mercury inside his body, presumably caused by his daily consumption of wild-caught fish, which has been his main diet for years because he is rich enough to afford it. What will you say about this?

trollofthedungeon, I use filtered water.

Why not just make the raw cheese yourself?

Are you kidding? My favorite greyere cheese would take 6-9 months.
I feel very thankful that I have access to a local farmer who makes truly raw cheeses. When I buy a whole wheel (about 15 pounds), it is only about $11 a pound including shipping to my doorstep.  I would support his business rather than making my home a cheese factory.  ;)

I doubt it, at some point you'll start feeling sick.

Yes I exaggerated—just a little bit.  ;)

Many thanks to all for your kind advice.  I will try to retrain my instincts. (Is this statement self-contradictory?)
