Some of you may know Kieba Blacklidge - former champion natural bodybuilder who went from vegan to paleo. Also a CRUSHING work-out from natural bodybuilder John Cubit.

John is not paleo, but his work-out kills.

Photos, diet, one-day of work-outs.....

Just wanted y'all to know I've collected a lot of the articles, reviews, interviews, & lessons I've written for other magazines & web-site over the past decade or so, and all of it will be going up at the new Skinny Devil Magazine.

It is mostly a music & arts mag, but there is also a lifestyle section where we'll have several contributors discussing their take on lifestyle, health, fitness, diet, etc....from SAD to raw vegan to paleo....work-out routines....alternative meds & lifestyles....

We're still housed at blogspot and up-loading old material (with a few new things tossed in here & there) and still have a LOT of work to do (lay-out, color scheme, proper ad gadgets, etc), but wanted to let y'all know early in case you have any input - especially with regard to the lifestyle section.

If you're interested, check it out:

General Discussion / REAL Raw Documentary
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:00:24 pm »
OK...if the folks at Animal Planet are full of shit, we have folks here capable of producing & releasing a raw documentary. All sorts of vegan docs (from garden variety to "Supercharge Me" to a raw vegan cartoon/superhero series), but I've not seen a raw meat documentary.

I'm up for doing music production (& I know there are others here capable). Anyone have a video editing suite? I'm thinking short self-produced video interviews answering some basic questions and talking candidly about the hows and whys...then maybe one or two "featured performers" to tie the whole thing together......

Produce a 30 minute mini-documentary and release it on YouTube in three 10 minute blocks.

Thoughts?

Off Topic / Western World Circa 2020?
« on: January 07, 2011, 02:11:16 am »
Ten years from now, what will be the cultural, political, psychological landscape of the western world?

I pose this question due to conversations elsewhere. some political in nature, some cultural in nature, some, well, "other" (hahaha!). One individual (interested in what he described as an "anarchist revolution") asserted there will be radical cultural shifts by a variety of means (primarily educating the public on specific political philosophies - an idea I find somewhat unlikely).

But what say YOU?

What sort of world will we be living in? An Orwellian "1984"-esque nightmare (or it's opposite: Huxley's "Brave New World" nightmare)? Or some neo-60s Hippie Utopia? Somewhere in between?

What do YOU see?

Off Topic / Your Day???

Man....seriously.....wow!

I just spent the last 8 hours or so in the studio recording some awesome music (metal meets movie soundtrack sounding stuff - very prog-rock)! Mostly bass guitar, but also 6-string electric guitars. Gonna take me another week to polish it all off.

A few days before that, I spent 6 hours rehearsing & tracking guitars for a cool dance track.

Next week I kick off the year teaching an incredible bunch of students, and debut an 8 week "History of Rock Guitar" class.

Somebody pinch me - I must be dreaming.

This sort of thing may be boring to everyone else, but to me its just stellar. Every day I wake up saying "Wow - this day is gonna rock! I can't believe I get to do this for a living!".

As we approach the new year, I raise my glass to each of you and say: Here's hoping YOUR every day is just as exciting to YOU as mine is to me. CHEERS!!!!

KD got me thinking.....

What do YOU think is the best modern apparatus for working out?

Off the top of my head, I like a pull-up bar, maybe some parallel bard for dips & such, rowing machine, & either treadmill/climber of some sort or a bike.

Just to bend your mind a bit.....

"Do you believe in ghosts?"

"No, they are unscientific. They have no matter or energy & therefore, according to the laws of science, exist only in people's minds. Of course, the laws of science have no matter or energy & exist only in peoples minds, so I don't believe in them either. It's best to be scientific about these things."

I'm currently using a Samsung Smile, but am thinking of rolling up to a full-fledged 4G smartphone.

I'm interested in suggestions. Should I go with the Blackberry, iPhone, or Android.

And why?

Interested in functionality, safety, security, and the lesser of evils when it comes to feeding the monster (hahaha!).

Anyone know anything about Stephen Hyland & his workout routine &/or diet?

I hear tale he's a cross-fit guy, but no idea his eating habits.

Stephen is the guy who dominates the pull-up & chin-ups world records for men.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Calories & Carbs
« on: May 04, 2010, 09:50:48 pm »
OK...I must have some fundamental mis-understanding about physiology & metabolism.

Why is it when bodybuilders cut, they eat lots of rice?

I assumed - to oversimplify - that the protein would maintain muscle mass and a LACK of carbs would force the body to cut (by eating excess fat). But I am told that the carbs give the body energy to use (instead of using the protein) which also allows the body to also burn fat for fuel. They tell me that lacking carbs, the body will simply use the protein as fuel, and then by-pass the fat stores and burn muscle mass.

So....can someone explain this to me?

I got an original Franklin Mint set years ago as a gift. Brutal game when you play it, to, by the way.

Anyway, we haven;t been able to locate it since the move and are worried it was lost or stolen. I'm wondering if anyone has an original set they'd like to sell?
