All those reports concern Pacific salmon. No one's had an issue with Atlantic salmon.

But my impression is that Atlantic salmon is not as good as Pacific salmon? more parasite problems?

Interesting, CK. Thanks. Fortunately I do not seem to be allergic to any food, except for alcohol.

Do you know why it makes you nauseous? What is in wild salmon that could make people feel nauseous?

I could get whole silver brite salmons imported from Canada at a very inexpensive price at a local grocer ($2.99 a pound). The taste is OK to me. Does anyone know of any health concern regarding eating this species of salmon? I understand that it is considered Pacific salmon.

Yes I'm still loosing some hair I think -\
I don't eat so much coconut any more.
The hair loss might be caused by my extremely low weight.
My hormones are quite low, having Amenorrea for some time.
I change my diet every other day, I feel a bit lost.
Nothing seems to work. I always have to fight not to loose even more weight.
For some days now I tried low fat, moderate protein, high carb because I had so much inflammation in my body  quite dangerous, and it did not stop.
But with all this carbs I have blood sugar probems, I'm bloated, have water retention and I'm always hungry :P
Today I tried just huge salads with lots of fish and oil. Oliveoil and Coconutoil and lots of spices.
Feel better like this.

Jesica, where can I find your post about low carb, keto you mentioned.
Can I go keto with fat manly from fatty fish, olive oil and coconut oil?
I have some problems with beef and wild boar fat (ever the highest quality) it always made me very thick after some time. I can not do a lot of eggs, gives me inflammation.
I thought I can be low carb because of this problems but carb based I can not live neither because I'm supercarbsensitive, diabetic I think

There was a period of time in my life when my weight was too low and I lost much hair. When I came to my senses I ate a lot of seaweeds and my hair loss was reversed.

Hi all. I m getting tired of handling the cold episode one after another of my five yrs old son, who's diet is nothing , but strictly based on raw food, raw paleo. Only thing he is missing here probably minerals, but I do give him time to time little blood juice from heart or liver. I stopped giving him raw fermented cod-liver oil past one year and see, his cold becomes a constant factor now. Should I start again that oil? He eats mostly marrows, brains, fats, egg yolks as his fat sources.

I'd like to add that he was vaccinated unto 9 months age and his last vaccinations were given 3 together in one day.

Several friends told me that since they started giving their kids a large glass of fresh fruit juice/smoothie (including citrus fruits) first thing on the morning everyday (upon my suggestion), their kids no longer suffer cold/flu.

What part of raw paleo diet could cause hair loss? My hair is still intact, but I don't want to lose any part of it.

General Discussion / Re: cow/ox spleen

DaBoss, Thanks for the article, which is too technical for me to understand much.

I think my iron-deficiency may be just the result of a simple problem: years of unbalanced near-frutarian diet.

Thanks to all who responded.

My first plate of cow spleen tasted like liver, except that the spleen contains much stuff which is resistant to chewing. I spit that part out.    I dried /warmed the spleen in my dehydrator for one hour first.  A lot of juice came out. I threw away the juice. Upon second thought, maybe I should drink the juice, which might be blood? What do people think?   I am eating the spleen for the sake of its iron. I need much iron at this point because of anemia.

It is true that spleen contains no vitamin A.

GS, your experience is scary. I wonder what ingredients in spleen caused the cross eyes. Are you sure the cause was the spleen? According to the following article, there is nothing pernicious about spleen.

General Discussion / cow/ox spleen
« on: January 12, 2013, 08:45:36 am »
I am going to get my first order of fresh spleen from grass-fed cows/oxen at WholeFoods because I need the iron in spleen. (Spleen does not have Vitamin A and so is a better source of iron than liver.) I made a search on this forum and did not see much discussion about spleen.  Is there anyone who is experienced in spleen consumption and could offer some advice/caveat on eating spleen?

Eve, I feel glad for you that you have found your ideal diet.  I tend to eat much sweet fruit when I do instincting eating, which I know is not too good. So I am still searching for my ideal diet.

Adora, it seems you are under much stress. I pray you will sort things out before long.

Max - Thanks for the recommendation. I like ketosis though. I hardly had any bad days in transition. I am not losing weight , even zc. I was, but I started over eating and stopped pretty much all exercise, due to broken foot, from over training and subsequent lapse of depression. Even though I gained back lbs. I still feel physically good and my foot healed a good bit this last week, so my spirits are much higher.

Adora, I thought you prefer instinctive eating. Here is you post on July 28, 2012

"Joy don't give up on the instinctive approach. If you read and follow the instruction on how to listen to yourself, you might find that you don't over consume sweets at all. I was doing great with fruit and honey using instinctive. It took 2-3 days of strict attention to smell and taste, and then it got easier. I was loosing weight and eating much less sugar. GCB talks about emotional eating too.
I wasn't aware of the stop for sugar well at first. I over ate some raw sweets on the first day or 2, but I became precise quick.
I ate considerably less and lost 10lbs easy in a month. I gave into pressure and quit instinctive, but I'm going back tomorrow. You don't have to be totally insticitive forever, but it is a usefull practice, and if you follow the rules faithfully your instincts will sharpen."

Health / Re: Can flaxseed be harmful?
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:18:28 pm »
I think they mean that for every x amount of fiber you consume, you consume very little omega 3.

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3163/2

48 g fiber - 38325mg omega 3. So actually that's not true. It's almost equal parts omega 3 to fiber.

Thanks.

The ratios of fiber/O3 is really scary.  To get any meaningful amount of omega3 you'd have to consume gigantic amounts of fiber.  Fish is so much superior source of O3.

Do you mean fiber contains/provides omega 3? This is new info. for me. Will you elaborate?

What is wrong with flaxseeds? I purchase organic refrigerated whole flaxseeds from Natural Grocers and eat a good amount. I have read many good things about flaxseeds.

Off Topic / Re: Advertising My Daughter for Marriage (In the future)
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:40:52 am »
A woman often chooses a husband who is somewhat like the men in her original family.

I had a lovely cousin who was beautiful and educated and gentle. Her grandfather and her father and her brother have been womanizers, to the grief of their wives. She married a well-educated man...who later abandoned her for another woman. My heart-broken cousin basically committed suicide. Her heart-broken father still does not understand that his daughter's failed marriage and suicide had something to do with his own life-long womanizing hobby.

What I am trying to say is that the way you and your sons behave may have a big impact on the kind of men your daughter will like in the future.

Haha. Your advertisement sounds like you were the sole arbitrator of your little girl's fate.

A caveat: many fathers never think any marriage suitor  worthy to carry away his daughter.

Lovely girl!

One question: Is she being trained to think independently...so that she may be independent in her choice of her husband regardless of the preferences of her beloved father?

Thank you, Tyler.

Thanks for the articles on anti-nutrients.

What do raw vegans say about anti-nutrients in plant foods? Are there studies that demonstrate how much fermentation or soaking seeds helps with the anti-nutrient problem?

"And fruits and sashimi or fresh raw egg yolk (mixed with avocado) combined, contain all nutrients you need."  Do you agree with this statement?

Will someone remind me what anti-nutrients in (well-soaked) seeds/nuts will do to a person?

Thanks to all who continue to contribute to this thread food for thought.

I visited Bruce Lee's grave two years ago. I was surprised to see many flowers offered at his grave site. It is amazing to me that many years after his death people still remember him.

I felt sad to see his son buried beside him, also died in his 20's.

Hot Topics / Re: Is coffee really all that bad?
« on: December 23, 2012, 11:26:57 am »

The amount of potentially carcinogenic pesticide residues consumed in a year is less than the amount known of rodent carcinogens in a cup of coffee.

I find this hard to believe. Does that mean non-organic foods are not bad after all?  If one cup of coffee contains more carcinogens than all the pesticides one takes in through eating non-organic foods in one year, then non-organic foods are pretty good...Just skip one cup of coffee and one does not have to spend money on organic foodstuff.
