General Discussion / SAD Compatability

I am wondering what experiences you all have or if you have any tips or tricks for still being able to eat the standard American diet (or any other modern diet) after going raw paleo. I ask because I want to go raw paleo but I can't expect the rest of my unit, friends, family or business associates to do the same. I still need to be able to digest food at the Marine Corps Ball, down an MRE, eat at family functions and take clients/businessmen out to dinner.

Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. :)

Obstructive Sleep Apnea runs in my family as my grandfather, uncle and probably my brother have it. Of course, no one in my family thought to tell their always-tired relative that there was a history of sleep disorders until the military diagnosed me. And the military didn't diagnose me until I fell asleep doing 70 on the freeway and offroaded my Corolla.

Anyways... Tried a bunch of different options and they didn't work. Finally, doc had me do a U-Triple-P (UvuloPalatatoPharyngoPlasty) to try and correct the anatomy. Basically, they went in and took out my uvula (the dangly bit in the back of the throat), my tonsils and part of my soft palette (separates your nose from your throat). Good news is I do feel a bit better. Bad news is I don't feel 100% and there are side effects: Difficulty swallowing at times, increased tendency to choke, fluids coming out my nose, fluids coming down my nose (mucus or salt water if a wave gives me a good tumble), this constant feeling of something in the back of my throat...

Long story short: I am hoping that a raw diet rich in raw meat will encourage cellular regeneration so that my throat doesn't scar too much and it will recover enough so that my soft palette starts doing its job again.

Also, any experience with healing scar tissue? AV claims his Primal Diet helps dissolve scar tissue which would be nice for my throat and other scar tissue interspersed throughout my body (shoulder, knees, chest...)

Just a bit about me...

I'm a 22 year-old male US Marine stationed in Hawaii, which is an extremely isolated and lacking state . There is one CSA and one co-op on my island and I plan on joining both. In fact, that is the greatest challenge I have with a raw diet: I'm not sure how I am going to get the food in the quality and quantity that I need without destroying my budget.

Anyways, I recently moved out of the barracks and acquired a couple of kittens. After doing a bit of research I decided to put them on a raw whole prey diet which they are absolutely loving and I, jokingly at first, told my friends that my kittens were eating better than I was. That comment, the reasoning behind why I was feeding them raw and a couple of avid cross fitters and paleo eaters at work all came together to make me do more research. Then I found AV's Primal Diet and reading that plus follow-on research led me here.

I'm going to raw to finally get the nutrients my underdeveloped body needs, finally reap the benefits of my exercise programs and address some chronic health problems. I'm hoping to undo the damage being in the military has done (surgery, vaccination cocktails, heavy medication, wear and tear) though the military has shocked me out of my rut on multiple occasions which is why I am here. I can't really complain. Still, I plan on getting out of the military and going into massage therapy having experienced first-hand the healing power of massage.

I just know that you need the proper diet too.

Anyways, it's a pleasure to be here and find more people with my particular kind of crazy.
